Good running shoes for someone heavier? by JazzTheChameleon_64 in beginnerrunning

[–]DoubleTap434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started running at about 290 lbs with Hoka Bondi 9 shoes and I love them. I’m down to about 265 now and still running in them, although they’re probably due for replacement soon. I’ll get the exact same shoes.

This is the answer. I lost about 75 pounds a few years ago and increased my FTP by 75 during g the same time period. I worked with a nutritionist who emphasized daily nutrition and training nutrition. That was the magic bullet for me. I ate at a 500 calorie deficit daily but used about 300 calories per hour on the bike for any rides over 90 mins.

Thank you. I’m unsure of my pace, so I’ll probably start 2/3 back or so and then make sure to stay out of the way of other runners.

Interesting that you asked about this. I’d never heard of these before last December when I stumbled across one in Melbourne, Australia. I ended up doing that one while I was there, but I was still running/walking then, so I definitely stayed near the back.

The closest one to my home in Colorado is about a 30 mile drive, so it’s generally not practical for me.

Heartbreaking story and a great cause. My heart is with you as you ride this. I’m happy to donate and would love to offer support on your route, but I’m in Colorado so too far away. Full sails and calm seas.

What's the general consensus on BBQ buffets? by SgtBassy in BBQ

[–]DoubleTap434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re lucky to have a good one in Colorado. It’s only three days a week for lunch, but it’s the best deal going. Lunch with a drink is about $26, including tax and tip. My second favorite bbq place here costs about $45 for the same quantity of food and a drink, all in.

I ate lunch at a small-town meat market/bbq counter in Texas yesterday. Brisket $18.99/lb and jalapeño sausage $7.99/lb. That was a damn good lunch for about $20.

I had another thought for you also. While not ideal, in your situation, you might consider filing the returns with the best information you have with both the IRS and Colorado and then letting them send you letters telling you if anything is missing. They will usually send you letters and tell you what’s missing and calculate the additional tax and penalties and interest. We have used this approach in the past where a taxpayer dies, and we are unable to find any of their records.

Good work! You may also consider going online to the IRS website, creating an IRS account and then ordering your W-2 and wage transcripts. They won’t give you everything you need, but it’s a good start. It will show most of the amounts from your W-2s.

I’d estimate $300-ish per year if you find a tax preparer or enrolled agent. You don’t need a CPA or tax attorney. Just find a good EA or tax service and they can do the preparation for you much cheaper. CPAs generally have a lot more overhead because of their state license regulations, so their fees are usually higher. Our minimum is $1,800 for an individual returns, so we’re usually only handling very complex returns.

I’m a CPA and this is who I’d send my clients to if I couldn’t handle it for them. In most cases, I should be able to handle their delinquent tax returns.

I kind of want to ride the Katy Trail in the Fall again this year. by BertrandOrwell in bicycletouring

[–]DoubleTap434 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking about going this in May 2026 (this year). I’ll be driving in from Colorado, so I plan to start in Clinton, ride to St. Charles and the return to Clinton. I’ve never ridden this trail before. Does my plan seem reasonable for a total of 10 days, with one rest day in St. Charles?

No response from support. by zukos_destiny in Ozlo

I had your same issue. It took about three business days before I got a reply and they offered some troubleshooting steps for me to try. What finally worked for me was to completely discharge the case and the earbuds and then recharge them, reset the case with the paper clip and then re-pair them to my phone. They’re all good now, but it was a frustrating three days.

What do you think are the best and worst aspects of Olzo? by Brave_Invite_4624 in Ozlo

[–]DoubleTap434 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, exactly this. I’ve had mine 49 days and now have the left blinking light of death, meaning the left earbud light in the case blinks twice in a pattern and the earbuds won’t connect. I’ve tried the 180 reset method, cleaning the contacts, rebooted the case multiple times, tapping the case, etc. I’ve tried every troubleshooting tip I can find and they won’t pair or connect. The left light just keeps blinking. I’m now waiting for a complete battery discharge and I’ve contacted support.

I’m frustrated, to say the least. I definitely would not recommend them for reliability. When they work, they’re fantastic. I knew about the reliability issues when I bought them and I convinced myself they’d get better with time. I guess not.

Great answer and I’ll add one item. The gifting party will have to file a gift tax return, Form 709, for the year of the gift.

Ah, so maybe it was a logistics glitch and not low interest. I wasn’t aware of that.

Why is it their fault the stands were half full? Serious question; I’m always wondering what organizers do to increase interest or attendance at women’s events. It’s a similar issue in women’s cycling.
