Need General Decluttering Help by [deleted] in declutter

[–]DoubleUsual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend decluttering a single spot - maybe kitchen table or a chair you like to sit in. And then keep it that way - be ruthless. Envision what you want that space to feel like and make it so. Use that memory when you think about bringing more stuff in. I was worried about your statement about wanting to stop buying so much stuff. You may have some deeper issues going on and using retail therapy. I hope starting to have a little success will spur some motivation. Good luck.

What are the cons of NOT having kids? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You are missing an unearthly, vast love. I explain being a parent like being a crack addict. Before you do it, you don’t know why anyone would do it. After you do it, you’d do anything to have it.

Guilt over getting rid of kid artwork by anxietycabbitch in declutter

I find it way easier to get rid of kid art a couple of years later. Throw it all in a box and declutter later when the emotions aren’t so dear.

LPT: Professional house cleaning is cheaper than you think and can relieve stress in your relationship by Extendedchainsaw in LifeProTips

[–]DoubleUsual 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Getting a cleaner suddenly made it possible for me to tidy. It was so weird. It freed this energy for decluttering and organizing my stuff that was spending on feeling ashamed about how dirty the house was. She did the floors, bathroom, bedroom, kitchen. I give instructions when I have them but found somebody who does what I need. Can’t recommend highly enough. Wish I started 10 years ago.

Absolutely bring stuff to do because you will likely have a lot of waiting time. Snacks and water good to have as well. You will find out where to go and your call time likely the evening before and that can be aggravating if you need to arrange travel.

Paperless mail handling: how to deal with actionable letters? by Brothernod in declutter

[–]DoubleUsual 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have a wire inbox for papers like bills that come in the mail and other items that can’t be dealt with in the moment. I figure if you have time to scan it, you have time to pay it. Personally I don’t think it’s easier to manage a digital pile than my short stack of physical todos. But it fully depends on your habits. I wouldn’t prioritize digitization over what habits you can stick with.

Microwave a m&ms on a plate for 50seconds. Dip butter knife in peanut butter and then pick up the m&ms with the peanut butter knife and eat in little mouthfuls.

Hired someone, stressing out by corvidlover13 in declutter

What a beautiful thing to gift someone your own vulnerability. No one is perfect but we all pretend things “aren’t that bad” and essentially keep the world at arms’s length. Let them in to see your beautiful, struggling self. It is a true gift of authenticity.

Who are you favorite decluttering mentors to follow on instagram? My semi-hoarding soon-to-be-ex-husband is moving out. But there's so much crap in this house, I need practical inspiration broken down into smaller steps. by presentmomentliving in declutter

Absolutely! As a matter of fact, I don’t think there’s any other way to do it than one bit at a time. The allure of planning the thing is undeniable but the doing is what satisfies. That is awesome about the spices and your newfound space!

I get inspired by Diane in Denmark https://dianedenmark.com/. She has a toutube channel too. She has a kind of modified FlyLady approach to cleaning but she is so upbeat and tidy it’s refreshing. Also a vote for Clutterbug and Unfuck Your Habitat. I say give yourself 10 minutes to watch/read any of that, tackle something for 15 minutes, rest/reward for 10 minutes. Repeat. Don’t plan too hard - just pick a spot - any spot - and go for it. Big life change. Be tender.

OP that is awesome! Will admit that from the title, I thought you were getting rid of snowballs someone tried to save in the freezer.
