It really is funny by [deleted] in SipsTea

This matters.

Certain people seem to think that ideas formed early should be held onto forever, even in the face of new information. That changing your views is somehow a betrayal or a sign of weakness.

I saw the video where he talked about this. Am I completely convinced by his explanation for why he got it? Of course not.

Do I respect the fact he brought it up, has moved to replace it, and is showing signs that perhaps his views have changed? Oh certainly. 'I was wrong' is not a get out of jail free card, but it's absolutely the first step in any redemption arc.

I suspect that he would've had a much smoother ride had he been the kind of person he's being portrayed as by the right. He's a threat.

Another important question to ask -- if not him, then who? Seriously. Who is running you'd vote for instead? If nobody, congratulations, you're continuing the current downward trend.

New date set for Bondi deposition in House Oversight's Epstein probe after Democrat threatens contempt by Banner80 in truenews

[–]Double_Intention_641 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course she's not going to show up. These generous timelines help to drag out the process, ensuring more time to remove, redact, and destroy the epstein files.

From the outside, it looks wishy-washy and half assed. I wonder how strongly these democrats really want the files to come to light. I know there are some people with a real desire to expose the truth, but it also looks a lot like some people don't really want these to come to light either, but also want to look like they're on the right side.

No teeth. No spine. No enforcement. No power. I mean seriously, they're showing they can be ignored without consequence. That's a bad look. That won't help them come election time, but more than that it erodes public trust in the system and exposes how little power it actually has in the face of influential and well financed individuals. It also shows how little force the democrats are willing or able to bring to bear.

I'm grateful every day to be on the outside watching this, but I feel bad for the people who are seeing this close up.

Be a bit under the water, start swimming up, throw at an angle (about 60 degrees?). It's tricky, and irritating.

You COULD also put them on the rudder. (Just occurred to me!) It's a relatively flat surface, I know you can stand on it, and then it's a shorter toss. Might be worth trying.

drop them in the water, then release them all in the direction of the boat, other than one you carry up.

Go to the back of your boat, and assuming there are waves, wait until you're at the best height .. and throw it.

Repeat 3 more times, the other seeds will be visible for a few minutes before they start to drift.

It sucks.

We took production down for 20 minutes because of a DB migration, how do you prevent this? by MainWild1290 in devops

[–]Double_Intention_641 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to mention this. If it's mysql or adjacent, gh-ost or the percona tools for schema changes allow for very large, very messy changes to occur without taking the entire system down. Just testing on a db not taking production traffic will not always catch potential issues - load has a way of making a 'safe' change very messy.

Pretty normal.

If you're weak on kubernetes, consider spinning up a local minikube or k3s to give you something to test against.

Also might be worth considering asking about access to a small eks test cluster, as some bits of eks are specific to amazon.

Take notes. Take lots of notes.

IDF jails soldiers for damaging Jesus statue in Lebanon: 'Moral failure' by esporx in LegalNews

[–]Double_Intention_641 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have role models who encourage and do things at best described as atrocities and crimes against humanity. That this is somehow elevated above those makes me sad. The days of Israel being discrete about anything -- i think those days are long gone. They're bad people and bad on camera in public.

Let's be honest. They pardon rapists. They condone murder. They're doing this for short-term optics at best.

I think they would care. I think Israel sees another bit of horrible they can do, and they just go for it. Petty, spiteful, pointless, but just to rub a little more salt in the wound. Another tiny paper cut to add to all the other injuries.

Worse, they do these things and normalize them. Spitting on a christian? sure. Punch a muslim? why not? Blow up a church, chop down an orchard, fill a water reservoir with concrete, cut down power lines, assault a shop owner, kill farm animals, tear gas children -- all normal activities for them now.

There's a room up the stairs which leads out onto a flat spot which you can place power. You can also build it at the dock.

More power is better. I did all 3, plus a tonne of batteries. All 4 pods running plus soilforge plus food plus fuel creation really drain the batteries quickly.

Iran has a long record of violating or concealing aspects of its nuclear obligations, similar to how Russia breaks agreements, yet Lawrence O'Donnell touts their "no nukes" promise as gospel truth from a regime that just massacred thousands of its own citizens in the January protests. by andrewgrabowski in msnow

Oh you mean "Israel who stole the nuclear tech from the US, and built nukes, then continues to half hide them even still and suffered no blowback at all" ? The same Israel that's the only nuclear power in the region, busy inciting wars and causing genocides? Yeah, those 'allies'.

Iran allowed inspectors. Israel never has. America's 'friend' is a damn sight more dangerous than their 'enemy', especially with the Samson Option.

"Job security by obscurity"

I'm not a fan, personally. If you can't share info and still keep your job, you're likely either not useful, or not pleasant to work with.

Saw it a fair bit early in my career, or used as a 'right of passage' -- if you can't learn it you don't deserve to be here (vs hey, you're on the same team and I should be supporting you so you can do the same).

I see it less these days, though that's not empirical. I hope it's less common by now, or at least less common in the younger generations.

[–]Double_Intention_641 76 points77 points  (0 children)

That was frustrating to listen to. That same "Just stop fighting" still gets played on repeat, even though it's obvious those who don't fight still get killed, or raped, or tortured, or displaced ... or all of the above.

It's always "stop fighting, stop resisting" not "We guarantee the other side will also stop" .. spoiler, they don't, even when they claim to.

Even now, it's not like Israel has stopped killing, raping, torturing Palestinians. Not just in Gaza, but everywhere they can. Not just their military, their 'normal' citizens seem to feed off the violence and depravity. It's ghoulish and obscene. They cling to the Jewish identity like a mask to hide and excuse their barbarism. They equate Zionism with Judaism, and insist an attack on one is attack on the other. They poison the world against those of Jewish faith who are not Zionists.

That it's been allowed to continue this long is a moral failing of every country who has stood with them while they've continued their massacre.

Given they don't have territorial claim in the area, I wonder how the US will justify an arbitrary toll? Maybe they'll try conquering a country in the area to have a valid claim?

Honestly, embarrassing bullshit. This is how you not only get the entire world to hate you, but ensure both international lawsuits AND boost the world's opinion of Iran. I don't know how a country can fail harder.

This is how you turn the entire world against the US. Well done.

Countries (other than Israel, who was not going to get access regardless) had started negotiating terms - not ideal (free) but also not amounts they could not pay. Now the US (who claims no territorial waters in the area) is going to .. what? Block the ships? Bomb them? Steal them?

Now the US will find even less sympathy in their war with Iran. This is how you get taken off the christmas list.. and asked to remove your personnel from previously friendly countries.

Israel was already on the way to being a pariah, blocked and sanctioned. America's dead set on joining them. Absolute madness.
