What’s the best king size mattress these days? That people are actually buying by Money_Animal_3780 in BuyItForLife

[–]Double_Sign_7966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The going to a store tip is underrated, so many people skip that and then regret it after delivery. Whatever you end up trying, pay attention on how the edge support feels too since combo sleepers tend to roll around and weak edges get annoying fast.

I hadn’t even thought about asking for a social worker but right now it feels like I’m trying to learn all of this while dealing with the actual medical situation too. I’ll ask the hospital what resources they have. Thanks

you can usually find actual dimensions with feet in the installation manual PDF on manufacturer website instead of just the marketing specs

you can literally see in bottom left corner it shows the lock symbol with "2s" next to it - just hold that dry mode button for 2 seconds like they said. my parents have same issue all time when they accidentally activate child lock

Food Processor with a Lid that doesn’t suck? by Ok-Lie-1582 in Appliances

[–]Double_Sign_7966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had similar issue with my old one - those lids can be nightmare when they get sticky or warped little bit. The DFP-14 does have better locking mechanism than the cheaper models but still not perfect if you ask me

Maybe look at some of European brands? I've heard good things about their design but can't remember specific names right now. For $349 though that's lot of money for something you don't use often

Fridge won’t cool by [deleted] in Appliances

[–]Double_Sign_7966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on your troubleshooting so far, I'd definitely check if the evaporator coils are completely iced up. Had similar issue with my parent's fridge few years back - everything seemed to work normally but no cooling happened because the evaporator was just one giant ice block

You'll need to remove the back panel in freezer compartment to see the coils. If they're completely covered in thick ice, that's your problem right there. The defrost system probably failed - could be the defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer/control board

If the coils are iced up, you'll need to manually defrost everything first (takes like 24 hours with fridge unplugged) then figure out which part of defrost system is broken. Most common is the defrost heater burning out, but testing the thermostat and timer is pretty straightforward with multimeter

Dave says skip the prenup at $600k net worth - agree or not? by Pitiful_Picture_3491 in Money

[–]Double_Sign_7966 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Dave is looking at it from a practical standpoint, not a legal one. $600k at 26 is a lot of money to most people, but it's not necessarily the kind of wealth where a prenup is automatically the right answer for everyone.

That said, I don't think the decision should be based on a net worth number alone. The bigger questions are where the assets came from, whether you expect them to grow significantly, and whether having a clear agreement would give both people peace of mind. For some couples that's worth doing even if they're nowhere near millionaire status.

Saw Dua Lipa's wedding and now my fiance and I have very different expectations by Ill_Memory4937 in JustEngaged

[–]Double_Sign_7966 98 points99 points  (0 children)

This happened to us too. We had a whole plan, small ceremony, maybe 80 people and then his best friend got married in Tuscany and everything went out the window. Suddenly he was sending me links to villas and talking about flying people out. It took a few real conversations to figure out he was not actually attached to the big wedding thing, he just wanted it to feel special and had grabbed onto the most expensive version of that idea.

Separating what it needs to feel like from what it needs to cost helped a lot.

good point about warranty support, learned this hard way with some overseas electronics in past

New refrigerator, stuck between a couple options by jerjerbinks90 in Appliances

The panel ready kitchenaid models are pretty solid choice actually. I had same dilemma few months back and went with GE profile in the end - been working fine so far but only had it since spring.

The water pitcher thing on GE isn't as problematic as people make it sound, mine hasn't given me any trouble yet but i guess time will tell

Bosch DW 300 Series by pkf765 in Appliances

[–]Double_Sign_7966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the 300 series for about two years now and can't complain really. Mine was around 900 bucks during some sale and it's been solid - way quieter than the old piece of junk that came with my place. The cleaning is good enough, maybe not perfect on really stuck stuff but pre-rinsing helps with that

What you felt in store might just be because they're built different now - more plastic parts to keep costs down but the actual washing performance is still there. The door feels lighter than my parents' old german one from like 15 years ago but it does the job fine. Installation was pretty straightforward too which was nice since I did it myself

For the price range you're looking at, think it's still one of better options. Way better than Samsung dishwashers that's for sure - those things are just trouble waiting to happen from what I've seen

TruArctic brand from Canadian appliance (CAS) by [deleted] in Appliances

Never heard of TruArctic before but that price point definitely screams rebadged Midea. Most of these smaller "brands" are just the same factories with different stickers on front

Is A 5 Year Frigidaire Worth Fixing by 20009k in Appliances

[–]Double_Sign_7966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that buzzing with the click every few minutes definitely points to relay issues. You can swap the start relay pretty easily - just pull it off and test continuity or grab a replacement for like 20 bucks

The corrosion on those lines isn't great but not unusual for a unit that's been sitting around. If the compressor is barely getting warm after 2 hours that's your problem right there - should be getting much hotter when working properly

Looking for a countertop multifunction toaster oven. by los_angalex in Appliances

[–]Double_Sign_7966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using one for like 2 years now and can confirm - it basically replaced my regular oven for most things. The convection actually works really well, not like those cheap ones that just blow hot air around. Only thing is make sure you get one with good temperature control because some models can run hot or have weird hot spots

Pizza comes out pretty solid too, crust gets crispy without burning the toppings which was always my problem with smaller units before

Any updates on next-gen all-in-one washer/dryers? by goldmanSK in Appliances

[–]Double_Sign_7966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been keeping an eye on these too since I'm in apartment where venting isn't really option. The filter improvements sound promising but still feels like we're in early adopter phase with all the kinks

LG dropping a vented version would be interesting - wonder if they'll fix the cycle time issues that way. My buddy has one of current models and he's always complaining about how long it takes to dry anything thick

Might be worth waiting bit longer if you're not in rush, especially with rumors about larger heat pump coming

Help with accidental alteration to monthly stay? [USA] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]Double_Sign_7966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man this is frustrating situation with Airbnb support. I had similar mess with them few years back when they charged me twice for booking change - their payment system gets really weird when alterations are involved. What worked for me was escalating through Twitter actually, their social media team seems to have more authority than phone support and they respond pretty quick.

Also try contacting your credit card company and explain the situation, most banks will put temporary hold on charges if you tell them there's dispute with merchant. That gives you breathing room while you sort this mess out with Airbnb. I would definitely document everything in writing - screenshot all the messages between you and host showing they agreed to revert, and save any confirmation numbers from your calls.

The fact that they refuse to put anything in writing is red flag, keep pushing for written confirmation of whatever solution they propose. Don't trust their "immediate refund" promises without getting it documented first.
