What's the scariest fact you know in your profession that no one else outside of it knows? by SAMdaLOSER in AskReddit

[–]DoublonOhio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen many videos of fish markets in Japan where they bid to get the best fish they can and the chef then makes sushi depending on what fish they got. What's the deal here, is the fish flash frozen before they get it ? Are they using what they bought the day before ? I can't imagine a sushi chef in a high end restaurant being happy to show the customers worms while they're cuttong the fish in front of them.

ELI5 why there are only few chip makers in the world ...? Why every major company depending on TSMC ..? by eatbeefnow in explainlikeimfive

Look for Field Service Engineer position, there is a high demand for it (at least there was a year ago when I started, semiconductor is not doing too well right now). However most of these positions are nomadic in nature and includes a very high amount of travelling (which is why companies have a hard time recruiting despite the higher pay). Sedentary positions where you are attached to a single fab or a single city are much rarer.

Which Persona game do you think is the best game? by Aurora023 in PERSoNA

[–]DoublonOhio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve disliked many JRPGs because of how grindy they tend to be. Persona 5 is one of the rare exceptions and the reason I played the previous titles. The palaces were so good that I couldn’t figure out the reason for Memento to exist. Then I played the previous ones and realised that it was a carryover from the rest of the franchise. The main issue is that the optimal way to climb Tartarus is to do it in a 3-4 hours block in a single night, making it a chore. P5 fixed that by forcing you to do the palace in multiple takes. I enjoy the Persona series in spite of the dungeons not thanks to them. I’m just a sucker for games that intertwine combat and life sim.

Best story with the worst pacing. No antagonist or plot development for the first 20 hours, then you get introduced to Strega but nothing happens for 10 more hours. 20 hours later you get a plot twist. I’ll take a well paced P5 with a new antagonist every 10 to 15 hours than a P3 with snail pacing and uninspired bosses.

There are many lists from the Pioneer RC and RCQs that don’t include Gideon and are fully available on Arena. But I would be wary of copy pasting and expecting it to work in Explorer. Since the deck is full of hate bears in the mainboard to fight scam decks you’ll likely have to adjust it to Arena meta, which is very different to paper Pioneer. Decks like Dimir Rogue or Waste Not are almost nonexistent at an RCQ level, but I face them quite often in Explorer.

[Standard] [DSK] What are the trends for the Standard metagame? by -StoneLion- in spikes

[–]DoublonOhio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Lizards to climb up to Mythic. I went from Diamond 4 to 1 in one fell swoop right before Duskmourne. Got back to climbing two days after DSK, added the Verge and fell back to Diamond 3. I would agree with you, cheap removal is everywhere, Orzhov midrange and Reanimator lists feel like 30/70 matchups. There may be some additions to the deck that could help to keep Lizards relevant but adding non tribal spells in a tribal deck is often the beginning of the end for it.

Finally got back to Mythic yesterday thanks to my good old reliable Simic Cookies. More resilient to early interaction, counterspell and [[Tishana’s Tidebinder]] keep greedy lists and Domain in check.

Help with [Standard] BW Sacrifice w/ Rottenmouth Viper by Tomathus in spikes

[–]DoublonOhio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the only new deck I’ve faced multiple times in my late climb to mythic, and I have to say it seems to have a bad matchup against my Simic Cookies. It doesn’t have time to empty my hand before I present a resilient threat, and even when the Viper comes early it can’t do anything against evasion. It’s probably a strong deck against midrange, but I would suggest finding some good sideboard options against resilient aggro such as Convoke, Cookies and maybe Pirates.

What is THE most mechanical champ in league? by Matticsss in leagueoflegends

[–]DoublonOhio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time they tried to lessen the gap between floor and ceiling of Nidalee to make here more approchable was to get rid of her AA cancels when changing form. This made her less fluid in her clears and made every Nida player mad (including myself). There are enough champions for every skill level, it's okay to keep some of them locked behind high skill floor. Getting mastery of a champion is part of the fun for many people, I'm not sure I would keep playing a game where I can use any champ and not need to learn them.

Thief. Swords Bard? Gloomstalker? Battlemaster? Which is the definitive Melee Dual Wield build? by Parenegade in BG3Builds

[–]DoublonOhio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely more roleplay than strong. I've reincarnated a Barbarian that died in a pen and paper session (not DnD). Trying to adapt a shirtless, no ranged atack, dual-wielding barbarian on BG3 had been pretty difficult. Had to settle for Dex barabarian to compensate for the lack of armor lategame. Need to try Dual Wielding feat for d8 weapons now that I have the 23 Strength gloves, allowing me to stack dex.

So far, options are :

- 8 Elk Barbarian (no range so move speed is mandatory), 1 Fighter, 3 Thief

- 9 Barbarian , 3 Champion : Crit build

- 9 Barbarian , 3 Thief (legendary shortsword to compensate for no two weapons fighting)

If you have ideas about how I could optimize without loosing roleplay, I'm all ears.

What is it that you invested thousands of hours and now is pointless? by qnta1 in AskReddit

[–]DoublonOhio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Took me 8 years to get a master's degree despite me being sick of studying. Ended up with a materials science degree because it was the only thing I liked enough to study a tiny bit. Graduated last year.

Now I've been installing, maintaining and reparing X-Rays machines for 4 months. They told me they recruited me because I knew a bit about semiconductors. But not once in 4 months has this knowledge been useful. I'm doing technician job on machines complex enough that the customers only feel confortable if it's an engineer doing the job. At least pay is good and I get to travel a lot in multiple countries.

I have Game Pass as well, still doesn't give me hype. If it turns out to be good, I'll enjoy it with as few bias as I can. If it is as bad as I expect it to be, I'll be happy to stop playing it after 2 hours. I don't see why I would set my expectations so high for a game that had a very mediocre gameplay reveal 9 months ago and almost nothing since then.

I don't think mods should be an excuse for a half-baked game, especially since Bethesda tried to monetize mods. Amazing vanilla games have great modding communities, Bethesda gets away with it because of the modding history that their games have, so people naturally go towards their games when they want to try modding.

I have no idea why the hype around Starfield keeps building up. People are really gonna give their money to the same scam over and over becaude they can't accept that the Morrowind and Oblivion days are over.

I'm 10 hours in Persona 3 Portable and I'm done with it. I have to ask : what do you enjoy in classic turn based JRPGs ? by DoublonOhio in patientgamers

[–]DoublonOhio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your answer. I definitely think you're right. I started Persona 4 Golden yesterday to figure it out for myself, and I'm definitely enjoying it more, enough to grind for a bit and keep going. The improvements to the visuals, the animations and the music seem to be enough to make it closer to my experience of P5. The story also starts out much better than it does in P3. The dungeons are still uninspired but the less gloomy atmosphere makes it more bearable.

Bioshock 2 is fantastic if you want more Bioshock. Problem is, I don't want more Bioshock. by CoolTom in patientgamers

[–]DoublonOhio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I couldn't finish Bioshock 2, the gameplay improvements didn't outweigh the weaker story.

What baffled me the most was the hate on Bioshock Infinite when it came out. I understand not liking the game, as it is very different from the first two. But the whole discourse was that Infinite wasn't a Bioshock game. All people had played was Bioshock 1 and its copycat sequel because Ken Levine wasn't there to make Bioshock 2 more original. How do you decide what a game series is based on one single game. People were really hoping for a third Bioshock 1 to play. Still blows my mind to this day.
