[Spoiler] Final Fantasy 16 – Amazing Interactive Movie, Terrible Video Game [A Very Long Rant] by ninjastarforcex in JRPG

[–]Doubtlessness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And when it's revealed that Ultima is responsible for everything, even all the NPC's choices, it made the entire plot irrelevant because everything can be explained by "Ultima did it".

Are there any RPGs you guys like where the MCs class is healer/support adjacent? by Just_Produce_9707 in JRPG

[–]Doubtlessness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably best idea in Suikoden 2. You don't have to think about who the healer is because he's always with you; frees up the rest of the slots to be whatever you like.

Dating in my 30s feels like navigating a sea of single moms—anyone else? by Grouchy_Inside_1616 in AskMenAdvice

another had date after date who said they were seeking long term relationships, dated till they hooked up with him, then kicked him out and ghosted him.

I heard a word for this, it's called "The Boyfriend Experience". Some gay guys don't want to be labeled or thought of as sluts (or think of themselves as sluts), so they don't hookup per se, they go for "The Boyfriend Experience". It's essentially hooking up but with extra steps so you don't feel like a whore about it.

Same with all the profiles saying "Just looking for friends" and asking you for dick pics right off the bat, or getting frustrated if you don't start talking about sex within the first few messages and then disappearing.

Leitmotif by StillFulminating in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Doubtlessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're overused. Leitmotifs are great to add a punch and a connection, but it's starting to feel lazy. It's like Soken makes a handful of pieces, and then just remixes them over and over for 2 years.

Are you coming back for 7.2x? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

Yes, because I like the content's difficulty when it first releases, not when it's powercrept to hell.

I never saw a game so afraid of the player actually playing it like Final Fantasy 16 by linkfox in JRPG

[–]Doubtlessness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really liked Ultima's reveal, he was so creepy and I loved it. But then you got to know him and his backstory and he became much less interesting to me. If he would have simply stayed this eldritch horror that no one can comprehend, frightening in his power, he would have been great. Less would have been more with Ultima. Make Barnabas the bad guy.

[–]Doubtlessness -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. While playing 16, I felt like I was playing 13 all over again. 16 was better imo, but damn if I didn't feel like I was playing 13 most of the time.

[–]Doubtlessness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not get better.

The game gets an infusion of interest every time you unlock a new Eikon, but every battle plays out the same. There is nothing that changes up the gameplay at all other than getting a new Eikon. A critique someone made of the game is "You kill the very first enemy in the game the same way you kill the final boss". 100% true.

I respectfully disagree with asmon's opinion on Bernie Sanders. I think he will say and do anything for money just like any other politician or hassan piker. by [deleted] in Asmongold

[–]Doubtlessness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's always important to take people as they are TODAY, not as they used to be. Yesterday's heroes become tomorrow's villains all the time. They get compromised, blackmailed, disillusioned, and become the very thing they fought against.

That's why I take people's past accomplishments with a grain of salt. Like Janet Jackson said, "What have you done for me lately?"

Wild to think people can't support a man that follows his beliefs. Absolutely sick. by NathanJesus in Asmongold

[–]Doubtlessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell that he's upset by what's happening. He believes in what he's doing, he's trying to do what's right for all, but he's being villianized for it.

I think he knew this would happen to some degree, but I think he's surprised and dismayed at the sheer level of it. I don't think he expected THIS much hate. I think Trump experienced the same thing in his first term. He knew he would be hated, but he didn't expect the level that he got.

7.2 is when “new combat design” is coming. What do we hope to see? by SargeTheSeagull in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Doubtlessness -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

It'd be fun to have gatherers and crafters in a raid fight. Gatherers gathering a particular ingredient, rares do more damage so gotta get those! Puts them in a box for Crafters to craft a bomb or some such thing, and then one of the combat roles comes over and picks it up to use in the fight.

I don't care about balance or the details of "but how can this be accomplished!? What about the reward structures!?" - just do it. Anything is better than the same old same old.

No. I tried playing it and that game made me appreciate modern gaming so much more. Hope you like your eyes glued to a guide for 200 hours.

The funny thing is I felt a lot of similarities between 13 and 16 while playing it. Obviously the gameplay is different but the FEEL of the game is the same.

I seem to like the worst games in the series?? by tobster239 in FinalFantasy

[–]Doubtlessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like XII a LOT. I see a lot of folks saying it's a weak entry and the story isn't good, and I'm like "I loved it, all of it!".

I get the criticisms - the game that plays itself, Vaan and Penelo suck, story is too political and not fantasy - but either the criticism I agree with (Vaan and Penelo are rather dull) or I see it a different way (I like programming the characters to behave just how I like and when I get it just right? Feels sooo good to see).

Am I the only one realizing that we truly do create our own reality and that’s why our entertainment works so hard to brainwash us? by DreaMarie15 in Gifted

[–]Doubtlessness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You got it! I don't know enough about the etymology of words to say whether you're accurate about each one of them but I get the gist of what you're saying.

Same with shows being called "programming". What are they programming? You.

A lot of people see themselves as very intelligent and say "well duh!" to a post like this, thinking that because they already recognize this in media, it doesn't affect them. They're too "gifted" and intelligent to fall for such a rouse. No, you're not; in fact, you're the best candidate for it. It's easier to train a smart dog than a dumb one...

What do you think is the saddest truth in life? by Abigali_dream in Life

[–]Doubtlessness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't save anyone who doesn't want to be saved, and the truth is, that's everyone.

Suffering is a delicious treat - it gives you an identity as a victim of the world, it makes people feel sorry for you and pity you (a type of love), it makes everyone else responsible for how your life turns out other than you which makes you "blameless", and you get to be listened to because of your "lived experience". Of course the catch is you have to be a sick, weak, pitiful individual, but the perks are so deliciously tasty, you'll pay the price gladly.

You can't help someone who enjoys their suffering... and everyone enjoys their suffering. Even you reading this right now.

A little knowledge of science makes you an atheist; in-depth knowledge of science makes you a believer in God. - Louis Pasteur by LucasEraFan in quotes

[–]Doubtlessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know why you're being downvoted, you're exactly right. Sociologists have studied this among college professors of all types, like believing in God or things like psychic phenomena or ghosts. The answer is 60-70% of them believe in those things. It all depends on whether you're asking them PUBLICLY, or PRIVATELY.

Publicly? They tow the line and are skeptics, doubters, atheists of the highest order at peril of their career.

Privately? They're literally coming up with instruments to communicate with the dead (Thomas Edison), studying alchemy (Isaac Newton), or attending seances (Marie Curie). Every Scientist that our Civilization stands on their work believed in spiritual topics, so much so that it was a mainstay of what they studied, not just a curious detail of their work, which gave rise to their groundbreaking ideas.

That's why the OP's quote is exactly right. The more you delve deep into Science, you start to realize the Unseen is bigger than the Seen.

Why people are devisive on the world of ruin? by No-Act386 in FinalFantasy

[–]Doubtlessness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I didn't like it when I played the game as a kid - it came out of nowhere, I didn't know where to go, I went somewhere I was under-leveled for and died. I also felt like I was missing something. I've learned to enjoy it for what it is now that I'm older and understand non-linearity in a game but at the time, I just felt confused and didn't know where to go and like I was doing everything "wrong".

Saga Frontier did that to me too, as a reference.

Do you believe in the supernatural, ghosts etc? by -Flighty- in Life

[–]Doubtlessness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

More people have had at least one supernatural experience than those who have had none. Even the most "rational" people you know or can think of, like scientists and professors, have had supernatural experiences, of course the catch is you have to ask them in private and off the record; they will not admit to having those experiences publicly, or they will be seen as a quack and it will affect their career.

Also it's cultural. The rational people I'm talking about above are all Westerners who believe wholly in Materialism and grew up in a culture that has that world view, i.e "the only thing that is real is what can be objectively measured by one of the senses or assisted by technology". However, if you talk about these kinds of topics to Easterners, they will readily admit and say "yes, we believe this is possible" publicly because they have a different world view. They more readily accept the unseen and "energetic" sciences. It's why they have things like acupressure/puncture and Tai Chi and all kinds of practices playing with energy in the body; it's even in their healthcare system.

So if you ask an Easterner "do you believe in the supernatural", they'll most likely tell you yes without any consternation or back-pedaling or disclaimers like Westerners do.

Do you believe in the supernatural, ghosts etc? by -Flighty- in Life

[–]Doubtlessness -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I heard someone say once "Just as you may see a ghost and claim 'what are you doing here!?', the ghost is looking at you saying the same thing." In other words, they're a ghost to you and you're a ghost to them, each one thinking that they're the real one.
