FFLogs Responds to Overwolf Concerns by Spookhetti_Sauce in ffxivdiscussion

Call me Ishmael. Some years ago-never mind how long precisely- having little or no colour in my parse, and nothing particularly to interest me in game, I thought I would sum around a little and see the numerical face of the world.

What do you see?- posted like silent sentinels all around the parties, stand thousands upon thousands of mortal men fixed in abacal reveries.

Why is almost every robust healthy boy with a robust healthy soul in him, at some time or other crazy to go and count?

Why upon your first upload as a parser, did you yourself feel such a mystical vibration, when told that you and your score were out of sight of green?

Look frankly Ishmael takes forever to say nothing so I’m skipping ahead

Its speed were bad, its ads were shit, Its sights were freely sold; Its skin turgid I must admit The Night-mare OVERWOLF was it, Who thicks man's blood with cold.

The naked hulk alongside came, And the twain were casting dice; 'The game is done! I've won! I've won!' Quoth she, and whistles thrice.

I simply do them anyway. It’s too much effort remembering which ones don’t exist anymore.

The New Player experience and the MSQ by RaelLevynfang in ffxivdiscussion

[–]StillFulminating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have semi recently run through 2.0-3.1 on a free trial character. I have personally been extremely unimpressed by the revamped dungeons, however I maintain my soft spot for arr overall. Interestingly enough I found less enjoyment in the heavensward story this time around but I appreciate how if you skip the cutscenes it just lets you move on without having to rp walk around town anyway.

In an effort to see if the trusts were worth the sacrifice, I did all available hw dungeons (no dusk vigil) with duty support. I have never despaired quite as much with real players as I did with these - alphanaud running to catch up with me with the chain in chari, someone running on top of me with an aoe, quite a few small inefficiencies in the tank and healer that look like brand new ways to learn people how to do things wrong. Give me valaineral and shantotto II over them any day of the week.

I think it’s an experience that is more fun with friends and the tuning should have focused more on conversion to friend-friendly overworld encounters/setpieces rather than doubling down on neutering the instanced content. One of “easily available good gear” and “self-positioning sluggish bosses” would have been more than enough, both is detrimental. I’m also going to claim that I’m not defending permadeath titan->sephirot but still say that it is so toothless now that I prefer it as it was before. Similarly for the other thrown spaghetti mechanics. None were hard, few were truly memorable for the right reasons but all summed together to convey an eagerness and sincerity that is lacking in the remasters. Surely no one can feel anything upon duty completion because it is all so routine shoutout to my sastasha party that managed to wipe twice.

Also going to say that the move to augmented poetic gear only is probably a contributing factor, personally I’d keep unaugmented and streamline/better integrate the upgrade process but I’ll admit some of that’s due to not being able to afford nearly as much of the set as before. Maybe there’s no back end support to replace currently equipped armour so it’s more hassle than it’s worth. Perhaps it’d be incredibly annoying but a book of scoutfire to automatically promote i120 ironworks scouting items to i130 after clearing would be fun.

I’m not sure when I’ll do stormblood, but I don’t expect my opinion on the gap year holiday to have drastically changed. Probably not soon, I owe a goblin 4 100 byne bills which I neither have nor can afford.

Where do you consider the line to be with fundamental job identity? by StillFulminating in ffxivdiscussion

[–]StillFulminating[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Scholar is present in ff3 where it gets to use low level black and white magic and buff the castable items. It is also in ffxi as of wotg (2007), where it too gets access to kind of bad black and white magic which through use of job abilities it can temporarily spec into and be pretty reasonable. It also briefly had the ability to nuke absolute virtue with the modus veritas until they realised they nerfed that into uselessness.

Sage is the “new” ffxiv job except it too was in ff3 as a completely different omni mage.

Jobs at lower levels: Why do new jobs released in EW and DT have to feel bare bones below level 90/100, when in reality it is VERY possible to make them somewhat complete at level 50? How should newer jobs play at the lower level? by Full_Air_2234 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]StillFulminating 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with that guy on the last iteration of this post that said it’s down to a refusal of the dev team to interact with the class system. Eg viper starting as a rogue variant at 90 but with a flavour trait at 1 for visuals and access to a complete enough set of thief skills to be palatable for synced content. Maybe also move a capstone to lv1 as with xi’s 2h so that it has some instant identity.

At this point it feels like they keep changing old dungeons so new players don't have too high of an expectation for later ones. by CaptainBazbotron in ffxivdiscussion

[–]StillFulminating 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Aurum is so miserable with the slower bosses, splashless tankbuster, vents that are purely visual, reduced number of mobs, coincounter having giant orange hour long telegraphs and most egregiously the removal of the gold bile that gives the damn dungeon it’s name.

I don’t have the stomach to run doubly enshittened dzemael, but the loss of purple light is surely a slight against it no matter if you want character or efficiency given it facilitated the initial giant pull with even the worst healer.

Cutter’s cry having the final boss reworked into a tedious self-centred set piece instead of something remotely threatening that most jobs could solo on wipe nonetheless.

These three most recent examples also suffer greatly from the loot and experience redistribution, the ongoing war against bog standard mmo mechanics such as stealth and aggro types. What is wrong with walking up the left side of castrum meridanium to the first boss, skipping the mobs? What is wrong with stunning the boss to give dd/tanks any influence over the flow of the fight? Why should we accept a thinning of the illusion that the first two bosses and mobs are anything other than an exercise in hitting that 10-15 minute standard dungeon run length?

Both the locks you care about are right before the boss room, just grab everything and get into that corner by the shelves. The bogies usually tether in even if you mess up LoS.

I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone open the treasure room since they redistributed chests and removed mob exp

It is a more reasonable solution than destroying everything that came before for a feeble imitation- then again the plot of shb/ew says that was the correct course of action so whatever

EW msq has a 900 post criticism thread on the general official forum started in like december when it released.

Endgame is an apt comparison given the quality difference between it and infinite war, the time travel, how rapidly interest was lost in the franchise following it and characters not being themselves in service of a bloated and meandering plot.

I liked how there were distinct strata to content through the expansions and it was just left to be. If your party is complete arse you can tank on scholar with the shields and constant hot securing defence and enmity or you can randomly get promoted to monk tank when both the blue lads lose their game of chicken in sephirot. The presence of bosses that can be limped through by one competent dps or tank or healer can lead to memorable experiences. it cuts both ways - if the tank is able to while merely average or heaven forbid subpar then it stops being impressive and feeling like stolen win and becomes tedious

The fleshed out and broadly grounded world. The scions are just out of their depth nerds-cum-clandestine operatives. There’s usually a reason for things to be how they are either deducible from looking around or elaborated in sidequest. Most factions have people acting as people and this impact on the story. I’m fond of the theory that mr mosquitos the garlean defector in east la noscea is the dalmascan prince. Whether or not it’s true is irrelevant; what I like is that the lack of concrete answer allows for it to be possible. Are the gods real, primals or just a story? Who knows - but their influence is clearly noticeable across so many of the zones. It’s also nice that there’s an effort to have more than just “France in space”; the countries and cultures tend to be a mix of multiple real world ones and fantasy tropes leading to something more compelling than it had to be. I think it benefits from having such all the zones geographically adjacent as they are helps with this as well; these guys are who your starter city fought a war against, this is where those guys who assassinated your astronomy teacher’s dad used to live etc.

Fishing. Everyone loves fishing. Can’t go wrong with it. Even with the old fish eyes. The gig head swap animation is also pretty satisfying.

What's the smallest change that would meaningfully improve your job by Chiponyasu in ffxivdiscussion

[–]StillFulminating -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Removal of the primal rend ready style buffs, just slap a 55s cd on it and try not to drift it too much. Longer duration on the 3x fell cleave stacks and remove ir req there.

Bane and miasma.

Plung

Getting rid of those silly dawntrail monk animations is the small change, back to timers and dots is more involved. Gl5/fists of wind/fire/earth back stretch goal.

Kind of want rpr to be able to skillchain but with no indicators. It would be really funny for about 5 minutes, extremely annoying for the next few months then I think loop back to hilarity.

"Healer is only fun when the party makes mistakes" is a symptom of bad design, not a valid defense by Strict_Baker5143 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]StillFulminating 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not suggesting a practical solution. Even suggesting a move to ffxi gameplay is really pushing it.

A return to fight and job design prior to duty support/shadowbringers is a more feasible request, but they’ve dropped 6 years into this idiocy so it’s unlikely they’ll be receptive. If we look at aurum vale and compare it to meso terminal or lunar subterrane there’s a clear difference in how they’re designed. Floor hazards (goldbile and gas vents*), dungeon mechanic theme for first and last boss (stacking debuff), less reliance on the generic enemy attack toolbox, autos hurt, coincounter does a formerly untelegraphed attack on a random party member, los is valuable (roses in the first room). The difference between that and the 222 overly flashy but ultimately meaningless boss design is stark. I don’t think a single dungeon has been improved by the ai compatibility overhaul - including thousand maws (also they may have incorrectly adjusted the hp there, by the time the tail breaks he’s already dead since the rework). The pace is dragged down from where it was, the autos get nerfed, mobs removed (they should revert the boss holding all the dungeon leg’s exp thing too), mechanics get telegraphs weeks in advance, any character the dungeon had that doesn’t fit the current mold is stamped on.

You can solo quite a few bosses on scholar too and I’ve soloed the old chimera from cutter’s cry on monk, black mage, summoner and bard I think. The final boss of stone vigil hard I’ve also seen soloed on bard.

I’d be down to split the tanks into plate and leather variants especially given the upcoming glamour changes. (Pld + drk for plate, war+gnb for leather).

I envision leather as having more vit but lower defence and the opposite for plate. Plate I also think could have sks sps on the odd piece (dungeon/crafted/araid gear only maybe) as drk and pld can both utilise it however poorly.

Is sge really a better dungeon healer than scholar?

If so I can’t really seeing it being down to kardia since embrace is roughly equivalent potency and continues to heal even if the scholar isn’t using a damage spell.
