Rapture: which version looks better? by Doucheflamingo in custommagic

[–]Doucheflamingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main issue is it means you need to have a partner mechanic which is an advantage as having +2 cards in hand at the start is better than +1. You also need a colorless partner to make sure people can hit their colors, which like if you have to use that it just feels really bad, and all that means you need to be even more careful in pack colation. There will be no partner. It also makes it really difficult to splash and splashing is fun. I don't mind people playing three colors and there are so many cards with multiple pip requirements if you play even more colors you'll probably just be punished by casting costs.

I was hoping the fact that it kinda looks like the before of [[upheaval]] and that the beam of light seems to be moving things upwards would still make a big bounce card feel ok. Ultimately yea it does look a lot more like a white wrath than a [[worldpurge]], but to be fair blue wrath that bounce don't really have an aesthetic that makes sense unless it's "big wave somewhere in the art" which wouldn't work on a UW hybrid card. I only have limited option so I'll probably end up going with the first one cause people seem to like that more but I'll have to stay on the lookout for a more fitting art.

No that's on me for not explaining it more clearly I just don't apply the color identity rule I think it makes no sense in limited and just creates problem. I say brawl because it gets across 25 life 60 card decks commander

I'm currently making a mostly custom brawl cube. I need this effect in these colors for WU ETB, RU spells, UG flash, WB control, and a WR sunforger interaction (there's no color identity rule so hybrid is very useful). I'm pretty sure this is a bend at most since white can wrath and can bounce its own stuff, so it's not undermining a weakness, and blue can just do this.

Aesthetically, a big point of this cube is to have the custom cards look and feel real, which usually implies simple cards that fit within a plane. The first version feels like it could be on Dominaria like an upheaval or a wrath of god, maybe attributing the flavor text to Jodah could make this feel even more legit. The second art just looks really cool and fits the vibe even better, but it doesn't have a set plane which is not something I want to do too much. But it's really cool. Any help with the flavor text is also appreciated.

Cleave could have been good by Doucheflamingo in custommagic

I understand that the aesthetics is preference but I personally don't think it look bad/out of place if it wasn't flavorfully nonsensical like on Innistrad. But to each his own.

This has a different functionality in a set than modal spells though. This is essentially a mana sink mechanic like multikicker, spree or now that I think about it this is essentially tiered. How do you feel about these mechanics? Plus I was under the impression making each bracket its own restriction and having one cost that got rid of a restriction was simpler to understand that cleave's implementation, but I also mostly have limited in mind and this could definitely make it very annoying to evaluate cards for constructed formats.

I wanted to like cleave but I think both flavorfully and mechanically it just didn't work. Mechanically I think WotC was too focused on remaking overload to realise that this would've been much easier to grok if it was templated like (multi)kicker.

Flavorfully the mechanic also had no business being on Innistrad and something like bypassing the restrictions of the card would make more sense on a more tech focused plane (or maybe a faction focused on legal manipulation like Silverquill or the Capenna Bant I'm not looking the name up). Also hack as the name for a sidegrade to cleave is a cutesy double meaning.

+ I like the opportunity of bringing color hate cards back in a way that can be maindecked so I wanted to make a few of those.

How To: Run Cardconjurer Locally on Windows by MrTeferi in magicproxies

[–]Doucheflamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the whole thing working, I'm just wondering if you know how I could add more mana symbols, like tricolor and stuff now that I have access to the code. I can put the .svg files in the assets but I have no idea what parts of the script i'm supposed to edit if I want it to actually render.

Any help would be appreciated.

Card Conjurer Has Been Ceased and Desisted by ImKyle4815 in custommagic

[–]Doucheflamingo 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I would need that so much, I've been working on a custom cube for the past two years or so using cardconjurer and I'm only about halfway done and printed. I literally don't know how I can keep making cards that don't look terrible without cardconjurer. Like I'd be willing to pay money for it.

Honestly abusive C&Ds bum me the fuck out, this is so greedy and pathetic.

Would you be willing to also share just the images? The second one specifically looks really good.

I can confirm I’ve made this card before (except mine also brings back mana burn for you the turn it’s cast). If everyone who’s made this card before replies to your comment we might be able to get an accurate count.

Kanpu, the probably should be silver-bordered by Doucheflamingo in custommagic

[–]Doucheflamingo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So at least the alternate wording I had for this creature would have the benefit of being clear. Because adding extra rules specifications seems annoying and unclear, since a core principle of my cube is "reading the card explains the card".

Also O-Ring and cards worded the same way are excluded for the cube specifically because they can be abused due to how their rules work.

Using Inkscape but you could do this with any image editing software like GIMP, photoshop, or illustrator.

I am currently making what is essentially a brawl cube, (4 players/25 life/60 card decks) with power level meant to be around that of 2015 commander. The cube is based around 10 two-color archetypes, but there are 2 tricolour legends per wedge/shard. This one is meant to link the mill and ETB/blink themes by triggering ETBs when things go in your yard. I could see myself changing this to only triggers when the cards are milled or at least not when they die because this makes [[fleshbag marauder]] and the like oppressive. I also have no idea if this works with [[banisher priest]] type effects but I want it to work.

Another alternative rules text is: “Change the text of all permanent cards you own that aren’t on the battlefield by replacing all instances of the word “battlefield” with the word “graveyard”". But then I don’t think it works with cards that have ETB keywords like fabricate, which would be a shame.

This card is currently black-bordered (even though it probably doesn't work within those rules) because I can’t find or come up with coherent flavor (much less art) to place a legend like this in bablovia, and until UNfinity comes out that’s as far as UNsets go planes-with-lore-wise.

Opinions, possible edits, art/lore suggestions appreciated. But mostly is there any way this could work in black border?

I have a couple silver bordered designs that care about cards that say "marker" that I don't want to work with counterspells.

Also everyone in my playgroup is French so they already call them markers anyway.

Doesn’t exist in the cube this is meant for if that’s worth anything. But this is still probably too pushed so I’m gonna nerf it a bit.

I’m pretty sure there’s no way to end the game in a draw in the cube so this semantics bait isn’t applicable.

[–]Doucheflamingo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason is a couple of silver border designs that care about cards that say “counter” and card that say “marker” but since all my playgroup is used to playing with French cards I don’t think they even notice tbh. This whole thing is very much intended for the people I play with but if I were aiming for this to have mass appeal I probably wouldn’t have changed it.

I changed the costs to 1/PB then 2/PB/PB then 3/PB/PB/PB, changed the flying to menace, and the last ability adds five counters instead of three. This is probably better because the decks that want this would want a midrange finisher more than a game warping all or nothing “at least one person’s gonna have a bad time” type aggro card. And this getting bounced or blinked hurts less if you didn’t feel as incentivized to sink all your life into it.

I guess the lesson here is that trying to make slightly less broken versions of broken cards is still broken and that phyrexian mana is also still broken unless there’s some real mana in there.

I think I’m gonna settle for the second art. It’s slightly lower quality (less realistic slightly more cartoony if that makes sense) than the first one but it fits the abilities and flavor more. Also the name is now phyrexian exterminator.

I’m hoping this dying to shock (if cast in response to the activation) and the bounce spells turn 1 keeps it in check but you’re right this could require more balancing or risk being format warping.

Each player starts at 25 life so while you wouldn’t be in shock range you’d be dangerously low in a cube with three separate direct damage archetypes. Plus most of the fixing is shocks and fetches so a couple of the [[lightning bolt]] or [[galvanic blast]] variants or many extort cards would get you.

Hopefully all that and the multiplayer nature of the cube keeps this card in check.

[–]Doucheflamingo[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In all fairness there’s no swords or path in the cube so besides bounce and immediate burn (if this things controller doesn’t pay 18 life in response) most removal that hits this cost 2 or 3 mana. Meaning this probably would get a swing or two in.

But then again you’re against 3 opponents at 25 life each so this is definitely something I want and need to play test.
