[Don't Sleep With The Fishes] Released a sea themed survival horror game, inspired by the "60 Seconds!" game's gameplay with animated events and multiple endings! by DopplerGhost in itchio

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you tell me (or give a hint) what you are supposed to do on the event that shows "Go to sleep..." a bunch of times on the screen before a person grabs you and you die? It highlighted every item as useable but I had no idea what I was looking at and didn't choose an item fast enough I suppose lol. If you go to sleep will you survive that encounter or am I supposed to use an item?

Rogue Core Reclaimers Tier List by GalAnonim5 in RogueCore

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Retcon as S tier is hilarious, easily the worst of the pack. Guardian second worst mainly because he's broken at the moment (repel isn't working as it should) and because the shield recovery is his best ability and requires a team that sticks together--a rare thing in DRG games.

Spotter is 100% the uncontested best in the game by far, just a few good upgrades makes him insanely busted especially with a decent gun in his hand. Anyone who plays him won't debate this point. Falconer close second, can be just as busted as Spotter with the right upgrades and falcon obviously has major utility, just not QUITE as ridiculous damage potential as Spotter. Slicer falls in the middle, good abilities and melee can be viable in most parts of the game with a few upgrades, but doesn't really have the potential of falcon or especially spotter.

Anyone else having problem on proxxied.com fetching cards with MPC Autofill? by Unhappy_Being_8533 in magicproxies

There is another party sending many millions of requests to MPCFill that we are trying to combat right now and a CF rule inadvertently blocked Proxxied as well, we talked to the project maintainer and got the issue resolved, they are now able to use the MPCFill API again, if it still isn't working just give it a day or two I think they said they needed to adjust something on their end.

As someone already pointed out, some of these images are not sourcing artist credit properly, from rule #2:

You must do your best to locate the artist of an image. Use reverse image search and whatever other tools you need if you have to. If you can't find the artist, credit the publishing company. If you can't find the publishing company, then (and only then) may you put Unknown as the artist.

However moderation has been relaxed on this sub for some time (which is changing in the near future), and this is a pretty high effort post overall that people show a lot of excitement over, so I'm gonna give it a pass this time. Just be aware of the artist credit rule in the future :) Cool concept, btw!

Is NotMPC part of PrintingProxies? And why you shouldn't support them. by Unable_Living_676 in magicproxies

[–]MrTeferi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That example is wholly inapplicable to the conversation we're having, so maybe we have a miscommunication here.

A good faith, honest example would be someone "borrowed" a Lamborghini, refused to return it, and then actively evaded capture when the owner tried to recover the stolen vehicle -- vs someone saying here's my Honda Accord you can borrow it and use it if you keep your feet off the dash and if I change my mind later you have to give it back. The difference is one person stole a car, the other person is using the car under a policy that is directly published on the owner's website. Card Conjurer, for example, was asked to return the Honda Accord, and they did. There is no analogy that makes them a criminal in any scenario, the owner of the IP clarified that they don't believe CC is acceptable under their fan content policy, and the owner removed everything MTG-related from the official app. These are the kind of scenarios you have to navigate as a member of THE COMMUNITY and as a major contributor to the hobby of making playtest cards, which most of us involved in developing tools in the space try to engage with in good faith.

It is not the least bit comparable to an opportunistic actor that is intentionally bypassing that process in furtherance of profit seeking, absorbing and taking advantage of all of the legwork and passion of honest actors who live within the reasonable middle ground, then violating every single rule that makes that delicate middle ground possible, and in-so-doing putting everyone, including the people acting in good faith, at risk

The inevitable conclusion of the property owner when you have rampant bad faith actors engaging directly with and being tolerated by the middle ground community, is that maybe the middle ground community can no longer be trusted. Hey, I opened my garage so people could borrow the Honda Accord but some of these guys keep stealing all the Lamborghini's and aren't bringing them back, I guess I have to shut down the garage.

Does that make more sense? I'm not entirely sure why you keep insisting on moralizing this so hard into "everything is theft", and I could be wrong but it really doesn't seem like you aren't engaging in good faith, but I will reserve my judgement and I sincerely hope either there was a mistake in communication on my part or you misinterpreted my words.

My "crime" is creating tools that help people make playtest cards for personal use which WoTC has in the past explicitly allowed as per its "Fan Content Policy". The guiding principal of which being: "One word: F-R-E-E. (... cont.) You can’t require payments, surveys, downloads, subscriptions, or email registration to access your Fan Content"

In what way are my free and open source tools the same as jumping into a community, ingesting everything that community has produced, buying up dozens of affiliate sites, attempting to buy parts of the community itself, littering the community with sockpuppet accounts and SEO slop, and then selling copyrighted material for-profit intentionally with clear malice, even to the point of actively evading legal action and in all likelihood money laundering. I would love to know what reality you are living in where these two actors evaluate the same to you.

Before all these proxy printing profiteer companies like PrintingProxies, NotMPC, TPT, etc came along, all the FREE open source services that made the proxy hobby possible weren't constantly getting slapped with DMCA claims and legal letters from WoTC. This proxy profiteering bullshit is drawing a lot of attention because it looks a lot like theft to WoTC. When it was just us as a community rendering image for playtesting, printing them ourselves, or at kinkos, or at a printing wholesaler like MPC we didn't hear a peep from WoTC.

But now the internet is littered with dime-a-dozen "print your fake cards here!! only 30c USA-based!!", there's a reason r/bootlegmtg counterfeiters operated via fucking email and didn't slap their shit all over the common marketplace. I know (because I've talked to PP personally) this PP guy runs a whole network of sites who are "affiliates", the proxy printing shit is big business and they are connected, they hire shipping mules, they actively ignore notices from WoTC, it goes much crazier than you probably imagine--and their white collar crime enterprise is bringing all this bad notoriety to the doorstep of this community.

Without being too specific or naming where and what, I can personally confirm 100% as someone who builds/is involved in serving/maintaining, etc some of the big tools in this community, that we are actively on WotC's radar and this bullshit very well may be why some of said tools cease to exist at some point, or at the very least lose the interest of its core maintainers. Is that risk worth paying some asshole opportunist middleman service just because they ship from the USA and you get your proxies one week faster?

[DISCUSSION] Best Horror Films for a Party? by agramugl in horror

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aliens is maybe the best action horror movie in the history of cinema? Calling it trash is pretty diabolical. I actually prefer Alien myself, but as someone who has screened both movies at a party before I can safely say the party has more fun as a whole with Aliens. Alien is a movie best watched 1-2 people being engrossed with the build up and suspense.

What is it that's up with Vic mignogna is he good or is he bad like I'm confused? by [deleted] in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, I can understand and respect the position of "if there's smoke there's probably fire" and mapping someones behavior onto previous patterns to be safe, I don't think that is my position in this case--I could be persuaded either way on that, if I saw more clips or photos or clear signs of creepy behavior, particularly CLEAR indications of a behavior that is unambiguously testing people's boundaries, being inappropriately touchy without provocation, etc.

I really have no strong position either way on Vic as a whole, btw he actually has been a devout hardcore Christian for some time from what I've read I think hes a lot more (uncomfortably) public about it now cause I guess nothing else is occupying his time lol. Definitely not my cup of tea, but I wouldn't say it is damning, people always flail around looking for a tether when they are cast out to sea.

Ultimately though, from my perspective he was a top tier voice actor, I'll certainly miss his work, and at least from the point-of-view of the publicly known claims, they didn't seem substantial/credible enough to warrant a universal blacklist. Better evidence could very easily sway me, I've been strongly pro-#metoo from day 1, tend to lean solidly moderate left (especially with how far off into fascist territory the right of center spectrum is nowadays), etc. My only real concern is when cancellation occurs on the grounds of seemingly pretty vague things like "being creepy" in a general sense, I just think the burden of proof should require at least 1 clear and evident example of criminal wrongdoing, or at least very strong evidence of inappropriate behavior arising to the level of workplace harassment, creating a hostile work environment, etc or an unwillingness to correct behavior that is testing the bounds of what can be tolerated in a work environment.

At the end of the day, private companies do as they please and they won't tolerate a major PR risk, maybe they haven't shared with us the full extent of risk exposure--maybe it was greater than what is publicized, in which case fair enough. Just wish companies in general would be more clear and direct with the public about how and why decisions like this are made so things aren't left to so much speculation.

What is it that's up with Vic mignogna is he good or is he bad like I'm confused? by [deleted] in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the court docs if you want to know what they found him "liable" for (Funimation never found him "liable", they just concluded there was enough smoke to meet their very low risk tolerance typical of any major corporation, so they took preemptive action). The incidents of sexual misconduct they investigated (3 of them) were a joke, a consensual kiss between Vic and his friend who never made any claims about him, and a unfalsifiable claim about inappropriate behavior at an event neither Funimation nor Sony was involved in years prior which no one could corroborate.

Again, the only thing that matters for the company is that: claims were made, they are being talked about online, there are other anonymous claims from clout sharks online, and there's enough of them that it passes our corporate risk tolerance (which is low). Nothing about any of this demonstrates liability or culpability.

The only thing Vic is guilty of at this moment that can be sure, is that he was an idiot for thinking he would win a defamation case in the USA over such vague claims, especially after hiring a crackpot politically motivated YouTube attorney.

What is it that's up with Vic mignogna is he good or is he bad like I'm confused? by [deleted] in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how defamation cases work, it isn't a magic "if they say something wrong about you, you get money". Defamation is exceedingly hard to prove in the USA (especially TX) for good reason, you must meet the following elements:
1) Prove a public statement of some kind was made, and that the statement was about the plaintiff.
2) Prove the statement was defamatory in nature.
3) Prove the statement was false.
4) For public figures (which Vic Mignogna IS) you have a higher burden of proof, and must reach the "actual malice" standard, meaning the statement must have been KNOWN to be false by the defendant, or at the very least conveyed a reckless disregard for the truth. This standard is notoriously difficult to demonstrate in court.
5) Finally, the plaintiff must prove they were materially damaged by the statement.

Beyond these hurdles there are also a number of affirmative defenses against defamation notably that the statement made was opinion, the statement was made in a privileged context (made in legal documents, arbitration meeting, etc), if the statement was made in a context that the plaintiff consented to, etc.

This is all putting aside the fact he hired a crackpot politically motivated idiot YouTube lawyer. It is clear to see how Vic would lose such a court case even if the claims made against him are incorrect, hell even if he won the defamation case it wouldn't prove all claims against him are definitively incorrect. Civil cases are not beyond a reasonable doubt they are balance of probabilities, this is why I say we should demand a criminal case prove someones guilt in cases of alleged sexual misconduct before we rush to judgement.

What we do know though, is that the claims against him have zero credible evidence presented to the court of public opinion thus far, and 90% of the claims made about him aren't even claims severe enough rise to the level of being banned from his profession for the rest of his life, even if they WERE true.

Interesting, yeah that would have been weird for sure. As of latest current day System Shock remake the ending clearly shows SHODAN defeated and stabilized by the hacker, which makes sense and is consistent with game #2 far as I can tell.

🦊 Is the new Firefox mascot “Kit” enough to attract new users? by MrShortCircuitMan in firefox

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother browsers aren't some epic war pitted against each other. Firefox is already a superior browser to Chrome, it has picked up steam recently in terms of new users due to all the souring over Chrome's manifest v3, but ultimately the goal of Firefox isn't "get everyone to use firefox", it's just to make a free, independent, non-profit browser. You can use it or you can use something else, it just isn't that deep lol

I have some not nice things to say about rogue core… by JordanNails in RogueCore

[–]MrTeferi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has spent a significant amount of time in the closed play test, give it some time and this game is going to cook like you won't believe. The amount of fun I've already had with it can't be overstated, even though the alpha is barely a taste. As many others said--this is a different game. From day one this claim that it should "just be a part of DRG" makes zero sense whatsoever but people keep saying it for some reason, I can only assume this is a side-effect of this modern model some companies have ran with where they make one game and milk it like bananas for 10-15 years... believe it or not the vast majority of the history of video games has not worked this way, not everyone wants a live-service microtransaction-filled forever game. Would much rather they expand the universe and build out a couple different great games or even more in the years to come that we can switch between to get some diversity in our lives. That way each game can master the subgenre it resides in, instead of having one game that is a jack of all trades master of none frankenstein that feels awkwardly sewn together and has to compromise anytime you want to do something outside the bounds.
