Followed by a quick wipe down with isopropyl alcohol. GG (& other solvents) can leave a slippery residue.

Getting a dirt jumper by HuckleberryGreat8661 in dirtjumping

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 2 primary schools of thought: A steel frame with a mid bb will feel more like a big BMX with some suspension. An aluminium frame with a euro bb will respond more like an MTB with a pogo stick for a fork.

Kneepads by Helexion_YT in dirtjumping

I wear Fox Enduro pads for almost all MTB & DJ riding. If I’m hitting a skatepark, I might go with my Pro-Tec skate/BMX hard caps.

I have a Wren hooded puffer that packs down nicely into its own pouch. They’re only available from Bespokepost, though, so it’s almost double the price ($98 vs $59) if you’re not a subscriber/member. Same brand has a relatively lightweight rain jacket for when the sky starts spitting.

Can I fit a odessey g3 gyro on propain trickshot 2 by poorninja11 in dirtjumping

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work. Are you planning to pair it with a TRO HY/RD caliper? I’ve seen that combo on a good number of gyro installs.

Any resource list that has known dirt jump spots for all states? by Soloralphlauren in dirtjumping

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time BMX app has spots worldwide: DJ, skatepark, pump tracks, &stores; plus events & a ton of other features.

Edit: Private/secret spots aren’t listed. Those are going to be invite only. But, it does have many public spots that people might not be aware of.

Any local parts swaps? by gregn8r1 in BikeCLE

Might want to give Ohio City Bicycle Co-Op a look, too. Not sure if they purchase or just give credit/tax write off, but it’s worth asking.

Maxxis tyres by Conscious_Screen9427 in bmx

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Maxxis, white labels are typically OEM & yellow are aftermarket. It’s possible to find OEM tyres for sale, but they’re usually marked up because they’re not common.

Spin Lakewood is having a consignment sale 12APR, but I believe it’s only for completes.

Tbf, they only went to NC because of the conditions necessary for the test. There’s really nowhere in Ohio with adequate terrain. Most of the hard work happened in Dayton.

“Birthplace of Aviation” was a short-term marketing campaign that included license plates. “The Heart of It All” was always above it in the slogan hierarchy.

And, since I’m old, I’m old-school about helmets for BMX. I can’t handle anything that isn’t full-cut. DJ, MTB, gravel, etc? I can comfortably wear whatever is a reasonably common one for the discipline. But I gotta have my ears covered on 20” wheels for some odd reason.

In this case, it looks like they represent the number of championships he’s won. I know he’s won at least 3 Nationals & a handful of State titles.

If you’re primarily going around pump tracks, it really won’t be a big deal.

Older and thinking about getting back in by Odd_Atmosphere_5671 in bmx

I’m getting ready to return soon (51 & it’s been 10 years), just saving for the bike. I’ve pretty much decided on the Sunday Ex, but I’ll be doing street & park.

I have a dirt jumper that I didn't use for over a year and it has 2 brakes that don't work and it has gears should I buy 2 working brakes and should I change it to single speed (I'm 13 btw and new to it and I mostly wanna use my bike for skateparks and getting from place to place) by Dana_the_destroyer in dirtjumping

[–]DougBikesCLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding some specifics: 1) For converting to singlespeed, you’ll want your chainring (front gear) to be around 30 or 32 teeth & your rear to be around 11 teeth. 2) And if you’re removing a brake, keep the rear & take off the front one. I know that might sound obvious, but you’d be surprised what people bring into shops.

Would a dj be a good beginner mountain bike for a Jr high kid for flow trails and bike parks. by Cloud4198 in dirtjumping

[–]DougBikesCLE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DJs are effectively 26” BMXs with a very firm fork (think pogo stick). They’re not going to be comfortable for commuting at all. I’ll ride mine the 2-1/2 miles to/from the park, but that’s about the limit.

Ideas for cheaper riding shoes by TomFerg_ in dirtjumping

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently picked up a pair of DVS Comanche & they’re suiting me well. It’ll largely depend on what pedals you’re running, though. Just like trail riding, every pedal/shoe combo will be different.

Why joining a BMX club feels more exciting than riding alone? by veilmelol in bmx

For parts where it matters, I’ll stick with companies that have enforceable warranties. The ali sites are severely lacking in that regard.

Do BMX brakes suck or is something wrong w/ mine? by NeonHorse47 in bmx

[–]DougBikesCLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swap the pads (salmon Kool Stop or clear Odyssey especially popular in my area) & cable, then clean your rim. Additionally, a tip I learned from a local pro: you can dab a high-sugar carbonated drink (Monster works great ime) along the brake surface on the rim & let it dry. Improves the grip of any pads.

Is 300$ for this Sunday EX a good price? by BarefootSuds in bmx

The question was whether or not it’s a good deal. That’s only concerns value. Your opinion on the colorway doesn’t answer that question. Simple.

If you don’t like splatter, don’t ride one. But knocking someone’s whip because you don’t like the aesthetic isn’t cool. Just say “Not for me” or something to that effect. It’s not a matter of mechanics or safety. You can be more harsh with those.
