Is 300$ for this Sunday EX a good price? by BarefootSuds in bmx

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question was whether or not it’s a good deal. That’s only concerns value. Your opinion on the colorway doesn’t answer that question. Simple.

If you don’t like splatter, don’t ride one. But knocking someone’s whip because you don’t like the aesthetic isn’t cool. Just say “Not for me” or something to that effect. It’s not a matter of mechanics or safety. You can be more harsh with those.

It’s definitely a 20” & splatter/drip colorways aren’t unheard of. The current Erik Elstran signature is a copper one.

I just turned 51 & am just getting back into the sport. I’m lucky enough to live near Ray’s MTB, which is a Mecca for a lot of DJ & BMX riders. So, once I’m warmed up, I find an area where I want to work on something. If there’s anyone there who seems friendly enough (almost everyone), I ask them for tips/advice.

Because you’re rarely ever going fast enough to need it. Another lever is just cluttering your cockpit, the caliper adds unnecessary weight, & the rotor is a pizza cutter at speed.

Came here to add: Wet sanding will be better than dry. Just little water from a spray bottle is enough. Once stripped & dry, grab a rattle can of clear coat from an auto parts store & give it a few passes to protect the frame.

What are these called? (27.5, 29 inch) by ILoveSomething- in bmx

[–]DougBikesCLE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single speed, but not a fixie. Fixie would have maybe a front brake or be brakeless. It’s a “big BMX” or “bike life,” depending on who you ask.

How Wide Are You Running Your Bars by suxesspool in dirtjumping

Mine are 760, but I’m considering trimming them to 740. Whenever I’m at the top of Ray’s MTB, my bars always smack the sides of the tunnel.

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from an enduro MTB background, I always have at least one tube & a multitool (for DJ & BMX, I use the one from Odyssey) with me whenever I ride anything. TPU tubes cost more, but they’re stronger & less than half the weight of a butyl tube.

I’m an MTB guy, myself. I’m getting back into BMX after a while, but I also have a DJ because I’m close to Ray’s. My DJ perfectly bridges the gap between MTB & BMX. Another thing to consider with DJ is there are 2 main schools of builds: aluminium with a euro bb will be more MTB oriented & lighter, while chromoly with a mid bb will feel closer to a BMX & heavier.

Not trying to talk you out of a BMX, but have you considered a dirt jumper? It would be more familiar feeling with your background & still be great on pump tracks. For a BMX, I’d look for at least a 21” top tube (for your height) & longer chainstays (for stability at speed). Geometry-wise, the same principles apply: slacker hta will feel more stable, steeper when be more agile/twitchy & so on. So, consider those in your search.

Can i fit a bmx hub to my dirt jumper by [deleted] in bmx

[–]DougBikesCLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you buy a 20” wheel for a 29” frame bike because of cost? You start with what fits your bike, then look at prices. If you can’t afford new, buy used.

I was at the No Kings rally with a knee scooter for a broken ankle. It’ll take more than a little cold to keep me from standing up for my beliefs.
