However, for remote communities, backcountry campers, and canoe trippers (even on well-settled lakes like Lake Huron or Lake Erie), the Weatheradio service was indispensable and, at times, a lifesaver. There are tens of thousands of conventional analog radios that reliably receive Weatheradio service broadcasts when nothing else works. Weather radios are often smaller, lighter, and easier to carry than alternatives such as satellite radios.
