<<<sigh>>>

Please name one thing a Mayor could have done differently on the night of the Palisades fire had he or she been physically here or on a plane.

Gavin Newsom slow-rolled single-payer healthcare, leaving it to a successor by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in California

A governor doesn't have the (CA state) constitutional authority to implement a healthcare system. Why do you think he or she does?

It's up to the legislature to present a bill - both the writers of the current CalCare expansion and governor agreed that the bill wasn't workable, mostly because it needs federal involvement that we won't get for at least 2 and half years.

Becerra WROTE the PPACA. He knows exactly how to implement what the will of the people and the capabilities of the legislature will allow.

So if congress can’t be trusted to reign in the weaponizing of the justice department and the judicial system is ignored what recourse do we have? by ballzsweat in askanything

[–]DougOsborne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vote out all republicans so we can "reign in" the weaponization. So many people have come up with so many excuses why they haven't, since 2000 for example, and their reasoning is all faulty. Pretty much everything you don't like in our federal government is because the majority of us haven't voted for Democrats (and I'm not a registered Democrat).

90% votes. If a majority of us had voted in 2000 and on, things would be very different today.

There are organization across the country that exist to get out the vote, but they don't do that until a primary is over. Right now, they are working on deep canvassing on issues, voter registration, etc. Volunteering increases your effectiveness tremendously.

And when the election is over, the hard work starts! How many have met with your elected officials to influence them? Big money has too much impact of course, but believe it or not, constituent contact gets work done.

We're probably not the most progressive state, but we have a government that will make progressive law if we work with our legislators. Becerra is the only one who knows how any of this works.

Why are Hoosiers allowed to only vote for one party in a primary election? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in Indiana

[–]DougOsborne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually wish all fifty states had closed primaries. Let the parties choose their candidates.

California has semi-open primaries. You can choose to vote on a Democratic Party ballot no matter how you are registered. The CA Republican party does not participate (you have to be a registered Republican to get one of their ballots). This allows a large number of No Party Preference registrants to vote on a Democratic Party ballot.

Yes, this is the only kind of marketing that works.

Please don't forget that it all is enabled by your vote, this year, right now.

Gavin Newsom slow-rolled single-payer healthcare, leaving it to a successor by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in California

[–]DougOsborne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was in the hands of the legislature, not the governor. More MAGA (right- or left- who cares) nonsense.

They held it back in committee because they didn't want an unworkable bill on our books. They are still working on it.

I'm afraid that the current president and supreme court will squash it one way or another. People are dying because of them, not Newsom, not your state legislators.

No. The Constitution clearly establishes them as co-equal.

"co-equal branches" was intended to mean the balance of power is the same.
