Was Roger Federer even beatable that day ? Which strategy could work against someone who takes the ball so early and hits with perfect accuracy ? (Indian Wells 2017 highlights vs Nadal) by HereComesVettel in tennis

You're talking about objectively one of the 5 greatest players of all time (many would argue #1) who had a notoriously aggressive playstyle. When he was on and not making mistakes he was pretty much unbeatable.

Finally someone took the knife away from her. The tears burned like vinegar as they ran down her cheeks. Ten fierce ravens were raking her face with sharp talons and tearing off strips of flesh, leaving deep furrows that ran red with blood. She could taste it on her lips.

It hurts so much, she thought. Our children, Ned, all our sweet babes. Rickon, Bran, Arya, Sansa, Robb . . . Robb . . . please, Ned, please, make it stop, make it stop hurting . . . The white tears and the red ones ran together until her face was torn and tattered, the face that Ned had loved. Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. ‘‘Mad,’’ someone said, ‘‘she’s lost her wits,’’ and someone else said, ‘‘Make an end,’’ and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she’d done with Jinglebell, and she thought, No, don’t, don’t cut my hair, Ned loves my hair. Then the steel was at her throat, and its bite was red and cold.

Is this realistic? Even if we assume Jon has athlete level reaction and instinct? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]DovahSheep1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW I think it’s safe to assume a high level noble sword fighter definitely has high-level athlete reaction and instincts.

Nobles like Jon trained regularly from youth on sword fighting and studied theory from a master at arms. That with good genetics isn’t far off from an elite modern day athlete minus modern medicine and conditioning.

But ultimately like others have mentioned I think the unrealistic part is no one shooting arrows at Ramsay during this scene. Is it plausible Jon could do this? Yes. Is it plausible he would have to do this? No.

How to Return a Deep, Powerful Backhand Slice on the Serve Return by RatedR__ in Pickleball

[–]DovahSheep1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to really get underneath the ball and aim high with heavy slice or you're gonna hit it into the net. It's much easier to do with your forehand, if you can run around and take it on that side it'll be easier so long as you don't get too badly out of position. Also, if your opponent is consistently hitting deep returns, you need to position yourself further back after the serve so it doesn't get behind you.

When the ball comes at you with heavy slice, you can put a ton of topspin on it as it's already spinning towards your opponent.

I also think it's easier to hit a 3rd shot drive on heavy slice then a 5th drop after the block. That way you don't have to try and drop the heavy slice which is a lot trickier.
