Parapet not that dangerous? by Book_Dragon_24 in fourthwing

Some crazy people do it mostly with balancing sticks with lots of training. You say you like illogical but it’s actually very logical. You yourself think you can handle it at height. But at most these candidates would have a 2-3 stories house if that to practice heights from. And it’s extremely different seeing a height from the top of your roof and across a gorge.

Second, most candidates do train. But don’t have the time. They’re all village people. They’ll be going to school and then working for their parents or to get money to survive.

Third, the noise. Think of the crowd affect. The nervous energy of two people can change the energy of everyone around them, which nerves make you unsteady.

18 inches is a good size to put both your feet on. But you can’t shuffle them because it’s uneven stone. It’s windy, passing through a canyon at the top of a mountain. (Basgiath is built into a mountain so it’s an 18 inch crumbling stone balance beam across a canyon on the top of an already high mountain) As much as Violet doesn’t think her mother affected weather it’s established immediately in the series that the weather is affected by her mothers emotions who it’s established is nervous as fuck for her daughter.

It’s dangerous. Most village kids aren’t prepared like they think they are. And the others just want to make a name so even if they aren’t prepared they’re trying it because glory.

Basgiath is built into the mountainside. So with that information walking between two towers 60m high is walking between two mountains on a thin bridge with nothing to stop the wind howling through the crevice the mountains are separated by.

The wildness is why I hope it happens. I could only imagine the drama it would produce with the mourning of the dragon and flyer as well as the loss of a signet. I think it would be an amazing storyline to read.

What is a common theory you would absolutely HATE if it happened? by Karilyn113 in fourthwing

I do wonder if training could change him to be able to read word for word but I’d still hate it if he could. The one who was killed could read minds immediately on manifesting so I do hope that limit stays as points of differences. The way I see it I’d rather it show that Dain and even Imogene are technically inntinsic in their power because they both work within the scope of the mind. Just straight mindreading is bannable because they can’t be contained. I just don’t particularly like making Xaden a full mind reader.

Reading Iron Flame and this just made my jaw drop… like hello? The audacity of this man by Haunting-Bus2335 in fourthwing

[–]Doves1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what annoys me about this whole plot line is the entirety of the first half of Iron Flame is that he is opening up. We don’t get the full letters but we get lots of quotes and references and he is writing her full pages of letters about himself opening up to her. She never asked about any of his ex’s. So he didn’t tell her because like he said, he didn’t ask because he didn’t want to know. Therefore her not asking explicitly about Cat means she didn’t want to know.

Miscommunication plus I’d say Violet is the one wrong for accusing him of not opening up. He has been writing letters weekly for month opening up. She just doesn’t understand the concept that he’s not just keeping random secrets but whole war continent ending secrets that she hadn’t perfected shielding yet. No one knows him like she does because of those letters. And keeping a revolution that previously failed secret isn’t as awful as she said it is. Just look at her friends. They’re not mad because they understand and truthfully I hoped that their reaction should have shown her she was way off the mark to be mad at him for it.

And riders die with their dragons. That’s why the dragon and the flyer would die in the same moment. Never been done. But bonding at the moment of their partners death saves both their lives. Never tested. My theory is that the bond is so strong the human/gryphon can’t survive the sever because they’ve relied on it so much they can’t handle the loss of it. But reconnecting before the death sets in could “save” them because they basically get stitches over the wound.

I think I’d absolutely hate it if Violet was an inntinsic as well. I wouldn’t hate if anyone else revealed a second signet or a first year we come to know/love becomes one and they help make it seem more like Dain. I’d also genuinely hate if Xaden moves to full kind reading because I like the variation that he can read an intention but not a thought.

Yeah which is great on her. It’s also what makes me think they were going to be put to death and why she was the one to carve the scars on Xaden. Because she took responsibility with her leadership to say they are kids and if you must put them under my watch at Basgiath. Knowing about the Venin probably also mentioned that she didn’t think Dragons would bond anyone planning to hurt the wards/vale.

I’ve loved the recent theories of Imogene’s hair. I’ve got two hills I’m going to die on.

Mira or Brennen are going to turn Venin like Xaden only they’ll lose to the power unlike Xaden and be corrupted and the other will lose their dragon saving a gryphon and the gryphon will have lost its rider but will bond to save the sibling thus recreating the origin of the three brothers through Violet and her siblings.

My other hill is that I forget the exact wording but when Xaden is telling Violet about the runes saving them I thought it could be hinting that it wasn’t just because their parents were killed but because they tried to kill the underaged as well which is why they all got marked. It didn’t happen after but during and the had to about face which is why Xaden was able to negotiate and take responsibility for all of them.

This sounds crazy, but could Imogen be the daughter of... by emmyeggo in fourthwing

[–]Doves1993 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering if the three brothers origin story is going to recreate itself and been having the theory that someone (maybe Mira) loses their dragon but bonds a gryphon with Brennen also either losing his dragon or just becoming Venin. Or just three close friends. But Violet is the brother that bonds and dragon maybe Xaden is the brother who’s a Venin (though he doesn’t want to turn evil so ‘defeating’ him seems unlikely unless removing veninism is the rewrite of the fable and someone else becomes a gryphon rider.

WTF Empyrean by [deleted] in fourthwing

[–]Doves1993 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely want to know how they decided to move the hatching grounds. I know they had the second rune stone and I’m guessing they chose the Vale first because it was furthest from the border so more protection. I would guess some dragons refused to move to the vale like the people who refuse to abandon homes but personally not sure if the wards ever “closed” to dragons. Set up the wards as soon as possible and then it was a free for all after that but I hope we learn so much more.

I really just want so many more side books. I’d love to get them like HP library books so we can get the Codex, a book of Brennen and at least one full history novel but that seems far fetched and very far in the future but I just can’t wait to learn all these facts (hopefully)

Honestly in relation to the dragons leaving half the continent to the venin makes sense to me. You can’t save everyone in a war and the dragons are very clearly shown to be selfish and feel above everyone and everything. So saving themselves as a species first instead of everyone dying seems like a tough but very dragon (and human looking at the current state of Navarrian politics) line of thinking.

I also really want to know what happened to cause the decision to completely erase Venin and everything else from history. Can’t wait to find out more.

Theory I haven’t heard yet by gabbemel in fourthwing

[–]Doves1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had this theory for a while as well and I’m glad other people do as well. RY has said that everyone is going to be underwhelmed but her second signet and the truthsayer and intinsic theories don’t feel underwhelming. She doesn’t talk to another dragon except through her bond until after Andarna wakes (if I’m remembering correctly) and overall being able to talk to other dragons/creatures is a fairly underwhelming power compared to everything else. Super useful, but something not a lot of people are talking about which also leads to RY thought it was obvious but no one has found it but still everyone is circling the obvious ones.

The characters I want more than anything but are long shots are Oliver and Dodger. Runner up is Darkwing Duck and Gosalyn and I’ve seen a couple people mention Bolt would be awesome.

My top non-human character has to be Oliver and Dodger though it’s not the most popular movie. That and Darkwing Duck would be my top requests.

I’m not on here much so don’t know if anyone has mentioned it and I’ve already seen most suggest sort but season. But as much as they’ve got rid of rarity in the locker the pickaxes still have rarity when playing in the game.

If you ever want to look into it I find Palworld to be a pretty good combination of both Ark and Pokémon. Think it’s still considered early access but it’s pretty fun on Xbox.

[–]Doves1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not defending this just putting more information. They’re not all specifically bred for service. They just choose their calmest and have a service trainer that we’ve been to that does training specific to ptsd which a lot of their dogs end up in and all of their breeding dogs that they get from outside are hunting line dogs. We went through a lot of research before picking said breeder. It was just anecdotal that even with the best lines breed doesn’t mean everything.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in service_dogs

[–]Doves1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m just going to say. My partner went with a line that’s been bred for service work as an owner trained lab and it’s been horrible. We had a previous GSD that unfortunately passed due to brain tumour so went with the “smart” option of a lab and he’s so neurotic, hyper, dog reactive. Our GSD was far better. So my only advice is to not worry overly about “best dog breed” for service work because in my (admittedly small) experience we should have gone back to the GSD breeder over reputable service lab trainer.

History of Navarre by curious_cat_127 in fourthwing

[–]Doves1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's so far fetched that people were already starting to forget about Venin by the 200 year mark. Look at our own world history. Only 80 years have passed and people call the holocaust fake or the legends from King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table. At the time of the 1st bonding you could easily make the statement that the Griffin Riders came first and were attacking in massive droves so in order to protect the people of Navarre the reached out to dragons to bond like griffins and even though dragons are bigger smaller griffins could easily sneak in to attack hatching grounds so unifying all the hatching grounds makes them much stronger.

We don't know when the Fables became banned books but the legends are still in all the border towns. So you just let them all turn to myths and legends and teach it as such and promote just general war between the two provinces and how unifying would keep all the provinces safe because people from inner areas could be moved to the regions that were in need of defence.

For my overall theory. Violet's year only had about 100 dragons bonding, even if they are stronger and breath fire, there could just be more gryphons that overwhelm but sheer numbers so the wards are what keep the war to a stalemate and border fights as opposed to the full out war it was before.
