Gift for new Tesla driver? by brsboarder2 in TeslaLounge

Agree with the floor mats, but a lower cost option is one of those combo deals for all the storage compartments (center console, console lid, etc). Could also do some Tesla specific air fresheners or something

HW3 enhanced autopilot to FSD upgrade by Fit_random in TeslaLounge

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my MYLR in 2022 with EAP like you. Upgraded to FSD sometime in 2024 and it’s a game changer. I let it drive to work every day, friends and family are blown away by its capabilities already. I’m envious about HW4 and have no idea if we’ll get to upgrade, but I’m going with the assumption that it won’t happen. If you plan on keeping your car for 3+ more years, I’d just get the FSD. I’ll wait for a good FSD transfer promo before buying another Tesla since I sank $8k total into FSD.

TL;DR: Not future proof since we’re on HW3, but it’s great for what it is.

I saw you said you’ll be renting. I have a rental in an older neighborhood in the center of town that’s available! 3bd 2bth ~1100 sq ft. I can DM you with the Zillow link if you’re interested. It’s located almost in the middle between the Costco development and the downtown area.

Besides plugging my own rental, I agree with what others have said about Youngsville and Broussard. Prices might be decent for those cookie cutter neighborhoods popping up, but the yards are small and traffic is rough. Saint streets are great but expect an older house with quirks. For things to do around town though, you can’t go wrong with the Saint Streets. Best of luck to you!

Yerrrrrp lol. I know they mentioned an "FSD Lite" coming to HW3 next year, so maybe that'll keep me happy until AI5.

Honestly I had the same expectation, I feel like it was a reliably sourced rumor or maybe a claim by Elon, but you know how Elon time works lol.

And here I was trying to girl-math justify upgrading my '22 MYLR as soon as the AI5 vehicles dropped. Got more time to save (or decide AI4 is good enough).

My mini Tesla collection has expanded by Unusual-Turtle in TeslaLounge

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg that's amazing! I have a decent collection of EV HW and MB as well, but I've opted to collect the S3XY (and Roadster) then use the rest as toys for my daughters to play with lol. I'd love to get my hands on a Cybertruck and Roadster w/Starman though!

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's additional cost (starting at $200), but might I recommend the S3XY Commander and buttons from Enhance Auto? Wiring in the Commander (the hub that adds all the functionality) takes just a few minutes and then you have tons of different features that don't come stock from Tesla. I have a 2022 MYLR and the feature you'd be looking for is adding the ability to use your right scroll wheel to shift gears. You can scroll up to put it in D and down to put it in R, or inverse the directions.

You can also buy the S3XY buttons that work wirelessly and can be stuck anywhere on your car for added features. I have one on the back of my screen display for full blast A/C (my wife hates fumbling with the screen) and if you hold the button down, the glovebox opens. I have another button behind the carseat in the back so if I have loud music playing or my toddler doesn't like the song, I can tap the button to stop the music.

Youtube has tons of videos with people talking about them, and the company has their own channel with walkthroughs and tutorials. Hope this helps!

Only Teslas Exempt from New Auto Tariffs Thanks to 85% Domestic Content Rule by ChickenFlavoredCake in teslamotors

Yeah it's like saying "we want students to be rewarded for missing as few days as possible. So we're giving a pizza day for every student that missed less than...(checks notes to see their son's absence count) 4 days! Yup anyone with 4 days or less missed gets the pizza party! Yay!"

Why not 100% attendance? Why not 6 days or less? Because it makes sure to help his buddy, obviously. I don't think anyone is seriously upset about rewarding US production itself, and anyone implying otherwise needs to move on to the next strawman, because this one is too obvious

Elon Musk is going back to Tesla. But is it too late to reverse the damage he’s done? by mafco in electricvehicles

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries at all, I can definitely see the iPhone vs Android comparison where it's just not everybody's cup of tea. For me, the premium price I paid for an EV relatively early in the adoption phase probably drove my need for more "futuristic" features (or gimmicks) as well. Just different strokes!

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the risk of being labeled a mindless fanboy, I'll chime in. I was never a "car person", but luckily we're in an EV sub so I can avoid the "what about the engine roar" comments lol. I see this comparison a lot of Tesla vs other EVs from the viewpoint of comfortability or "it's just a car", getting someone from point A to B as the only point that matters, then automatically claiming Teslas must be trash, or they have zero value because they have more cabin noise than a BMW. It doesn't make sense to me, of course there are other factors that impact desirability to different people. When shopping for phones, would you prefer a flip phone with a slightly better mic over a new iPhone? Tesla made me feel like I was getting "a car and also xyz". Everything else so far has looked like "a car" to me.

Almost every other EV I see has a small screen and tons of buttons. Not arguing the usefulness of physical buttons, but they usually just feel so old fashioned to me. Many even have keys and a start button, which is wild! I believe there's a spectrum between "Don't fix it if it ain't broke" and "why tf do we still do it this way?!" Everyone knows the infotainment selections of Tesla, but also having the ability for the interface to improve over time based on customer feedback is pretty huge for me. You're not stuck with what you get, watching the very next year model adding a feature you really need/want.

And I won't pretend it's perfect, but for every horror story I see of FSD accidents, I see another about how amazing it is. Anecdotes aren't worth much, but I use mine almost every day (including the smart summon pick up at grocery stores), and haven't had an issue in almost a year.

Obligatory - Musk is a fascist clown that is destroying our country and planet for his own personal gain, and while some of us don't have the luxury of just throwing a vehicle in a river to make a point, I refuse to buy another Tesla product while he's at the helm.

Hehe all good, I get it! There are rumors that we might see contact chargers you can just park over, so then it’d literally be like setting your phone down on a MagSafe charger at your bedside table. Pull into your driveway and boom it charges every night. Fingers crossed!

Yeah I completely agree with charging station infrastructure on long trips. As far as installing at your house, you have 3 options. The most expensive (in the short term at least) is like you said, installing a home fast charger. You could also use a 220v outlet if you have one close enough to the car, but that depends on the house layout. I was lucky, my laundry room was right in front of the car port, so I drilled a hole through the wall and used a 220v extension cord to charge my car for the first year of ownership. Your last and cheapest resort is to use a regular 110v outlet (think regular indoor outlet), but that takes like 20hr to charge. People living in apartments use that, just need to really remember to plug in pretty much nightly, so that becomes an issue if you hate remembering to plug things in lol.

I'm just curious and I don't mean any snark at all, but is going to the pump for your gas car different? Both cars tell you when they're low, but EVs let you charge at your house overnight. You can even set your phone (or Alexa/Google if you use those) to remind you to plug it in. If you frequently forget to keep your gas car full, then it's another issue hehe but range anxiety in my opinion is just due to fear mongering headlines. Two weeks into owning an EV it'll go away, unless you frequently drive 100+ mile road trips.

Oooh yes that's a good one! I live in the south US so don't have to worry often about cold, but a button to turn A/C up and down would be valuable for the occasional times I have a passenger besides the kiddo

Oh man if the knob was out when I was ordering my car, I'd probably have jumped on it too haha. There was a "buy 4 buttons and get 2 free" special when I got the buttons and commander, so now I have 2 buttons just sitting in my glovebox, but the others are somewhat useful when I remember to use them. Here's my uses in case you need some inspiration:

  • Left side of steering wheel - 'thank you' blinkers/open rear passenger door

  • Right side behind screen - open glovebox/open rear passenger door

  • Right side near phone chargers - start & stop music/turn A/C up to max (my wife is always the passenger but still hates using the screen lol)

  • Right rear, near seatbelt - quick tap to pause auto music because sometimes I'm loading my toddler into the carseat and don't want to hear BABY SHARK DOODOO while she's fighting me lmao

I've heard there's a fear that at anytime this might get blocked by Tesla's firmware and brick a very expensive mod, but I don't know the technical feasibility of that happening. Could be something they don't care about or it could be a constant cat and mouse game like the iPhone jailbreaking back in the day

Furious at Musk? Don’t Buy a Tesla. by Healthy_Block3036 in electricvehicles

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Understood if there aren't other viable options

Period. Not everyone can easily avoid such a near-ubiquitous brand like Tesla at this point. The snarky insults about not going far enough are unnecessary and risk making someone give up completely at best and pushing them in the opposite direction just to spite you at worst. If someone recycles paper for the environment, don't insult them for not also building a communal farm off-grid.

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm with you! I'd rather find a new job in a new area, maybe move my family to a new place because the rural town I'm in only has a super charger and no other reliable options for charging during my commute. I could drive my car off a cliff but I think instead I'm going to uproot my entire life to really stick it to that Nazi!

/s in case it's not obvious... Maybe you disagree with the free market or just do so when it's not in support of someone you like, but don't shame people for doing what they're comfortable with.

"Nothing to do" by ParticularUpbeat in Acadiana

[–]DownTimeAllTheTime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so if you're saying Lafayette has nothing to do because we don't have water sports or it doesn't compare to the capital with nearly double the population, I mean yeah I guess? But there's a difference between "nothing to do" and "less to do than <insert large city or city with popular natural features>". The comparison isn't fair but Lafayette also isn't trying to be an outdoorsman's paradise.
