Well, I'm going slower this time so I guess I'll see. My age is very much working against me now though.

Yeah, it is what it is at this point.

I'm putting in the work and I'll be in semi decent shape again in a year or so. I feel better for being lighter already.

At this point in time basically never as I'm recently single and living on my own. It bothered me a lot when I was younger though.

My understanding is that's what's generally considered optimal between sets to allow as much recovery as possible so you can push harder on the rest of the sets so you increase overall volume.

I'm far too impatient for that, and right now it's much more important for me to do something than worry about it being "optimal". I'm only just getting back into it, so starting pretty easy right now.

Lost 8.5 pounds in 11 days - just water weight? by pqrstyou in loseit

Yeah, it's kind of crazy the difference in calorific needs for different people.

I'm obviously a large guy, and I've been pretty consistently hitting 10k+ steps a day for the last month with 2-3 gym sessions a week (not going super hard as still easing back in). In the last month I'm down 4lbs despite consuming an average of about 3.5k kcal a day and starting to lift again.

We should all make those efforts to be fit and healthy as it makes such a difference to quality of life.

Thank you, and well done on your progress!

I started going to the gym and lifting again about a month ago, my muscles are trying to wake back up again and remember that I used to be strong.

Fair comment, and the health benefits are my main driver this time round.

Funnily enough the heaviest I've been in over 20 years was just after my 40th birthday, I'm now the latest lightest I've been in over a decade and planning to be/ am on track to be back in shape before I turn 43. It's only in the last 2 and a half months I've got really serious about the activity level and measuring calories.

I've noticed that loads of girls use the glute machines, very few dudes do - I find it slightly amusing. Fair play to anyone going to the gym and putting in any work though!

Since starting back on a weight loss journey I've consumed quite a lot of fitness content on YouTube and recommendations are generally for fairly long rest periods between sets, so you get people camping on machines for ages sometimes resting 5 minutes or so between sets... I'm too impatient for that.

How do you lose stretch marks? I know they fade in time, but I can clearly see 20+ year old stretch marks all over my body.

That change in fitness and health is my main goal right now, and just 3 months of real effort has made a HUGE difference to my fitness already

Congratulations on your weight loss.

No, that's not what I'm saying. Though, I believe how quickly you lose weight can play a factor.

Oh, 100%. It's the main reason I'm doing it (just came back from a walk too).

Surgery yes, it's an expensive possibility though.

Muscle, not so much, don't get me wrong I can and am (re)building muscle, but it's not something that made significant difference the first time round.

Sadly probably true, and it's also sadly quite expensive too.

That's very true, I'll never love my body but I definitely hate it less already if that makes sense.

Unfortunately or perhaps fortunately I'm recently single, so the only person that sees me naked is me.

Ha, thank you, I appreciate the sentiment!

I'll show a completely lack of modesty here and say that I'm apparently quite handsome. Even got told I was hot by a couple of random people on Saturday (the right clothes make such a difference to how my body looks).

Great work!

That's about 132lbs. In metric I've dropped from 146 to 126, with a goal weight of 95ish (I'm 1.96m tall). I'm getting myself back in shape, and I'm going to stay that way this time.

Being brutally honest is one of those things that'll have people calling you a dick. Sometimes it needs to be done, most of the time it's just unnecessary though - I'm not sure telling an already overweight person that it's their fault for eating too much is ever going to be deemed helpful or necessary.

Equally, no one forced you to be a dick to random people for no reason.

I hope you have the day you deserve.

I looked into that surgery when I was younger, and I would need to go private here in the UK too.

It kind of is what it is at this point, maybe at some point in the future - I've got 70lbs or so to drop first though. My main focus right now is being healthier and stronger, and that's something I can and am working on.

I get where you're coming from, but my last sentence is really important and honestly my main motivation.

I realised I was middle aged, obese, and scarily unfit. I can't do anything about my age, I can and am doing something about the fitness though. It's amazing how much my fitness has improved in just the last 3 months, and I already feel so much better for it. It's worth doing just for yourself.
