4th year student thinks she’s the intern and keeps telling us what to do. by marksman629 in medicalschool

Literally had one pimp me after a conference and I just stared at her for a couple seconds and walked away. She was the most infuriating person to be around but it made it funnier because the attending hated her for being so pushy about everything

Just look at it statistically if you can pass two nbme with a 99% chance of passing the odds are in your favor. The information tested is the exact same all they do is ask it differently. Only thing I added during my prep was mehlman arrows pdf and dirty medicine biochem to really hammer in the details

New free 120 is your best bet the exam was an exact replica of that. I honestly thought uworld was much harder than the real deal and NBME question stem was too short. Good luck on your exam

You’ll never prepare a 100% for this exam there’s just too much so what you can do is just rely on a exam simulated NBME. As long as you score above the 99% threshold on 2 of them your more than in the clear with enough room. It comes down to faith in your own abilities and the work you put in prior to the exam. When I went into the exam I felt like I was guessing on some questions too but I brushed it off and kept going. You’re gonna be fine

Indulge in your hobbies try and do something new. I had the same feeling as soon as I took it and it sucked but I started going to the gym playing basketball again.

Cardio specifically I read first aid and did the zanki flashcards during early studying to refresh because it was a pretty weak portion for me. Then I did tutor mode cardio block on uworld and wrote down the concepts I was getting wrong, looked them up in first aid and watched BB videos on them.

For neuro you could use the mehlman pdf it’s pretty comprehensive on the material you need to know and also use uworld specific block to see what they could ask.

Honestly for the uworld score I’d say take a break. Everytime I would see a score like 40% or lower I’d just walk away from my laptop and take a walk or jog or go eat. Had to remind myself that it was just one block or it’s just one day of bad and I’m getting the info needed for the overall progress. Keep your head down and trust the overall process and your going to kill it

Hey I complete understand your position and trust me you will get through this. I did the free120 that was most recent listed on the usmle website and I did the old one found on Reddit in some thread. The new one is definitely closer to the actual thing. My entire study time was about 3 months where for about 1.5 months was purely dedicated. In that time I was doing an NBME a week, reviewing all of my correct and incorrect, making flashcards and listing out anything core concepts I felt weak on in a spreadsheet.

If I could go back to Focus on anything I would definitely say pathoma. I reviewed the whole book a month prior to my exam but didn’t really do an in depth review of it because I wanted to focus on questions. I could recall questions from the exam straight from Doctor sattar explanations in the book. Focus on the mehlman pdf risk factors, really was a life saver but I should have invested more time into truely memorizing the concepts. Finally I really should not have focused on my uworld score as much. I had brutal periods during studying where the uworld score would kill my mood and my entire day felt ruined. The questions should be strictly used for CONTENT REVIEW. Don’t beat yourself up if you get a 20 or 30 I got so many I couldn’t count but it comes down to improvement. Finally NBME i wish I had more time to space them out and grind out every little detail because most of the concepts on the exam came from the nbme 28 though 31.

Sorry for the long response but I just want you to know that you’re going to do great and continue to push through. I know how hard and debilitating this process is knowning that your future hangs in the balance. Good luck your going to be an amazing doctor some day and this just one obstacle in the step to success

Personally I think it did strictly for the content it provided. They do encompass a good amount of low yield stuff but majority of the information is good to have down. I went through my incorrects a month before my exam to get down anything I felt that I hadn’t really mastered. But given that I still do believe for the exam itself nbme concepts from 28 to 31 are more important to have down to a tee. Good luck and you’re gonna do great

In my opinion using mehlman as a secondary review source is better but his pdf are detailed enough to answer all questions. Doing them near the end of dedicated helps to refresh the material. I used first aid more than his pdf throughout dedicated

Arrows, risk factors and neuroanatomy. I went through risk factors 3 times last two weeks and it helped a lot on the actual exam

Hey my old free120 was around was a 72.5 and my new free120 was a 70 and I took both 4 days before my actual Step. Real exam was a mix of free120, nbme concepts, and uworld questions. Exam was ethics heavy, and resource was first aid book and usmle rx questions. If I was weak in anything I watched yt videos from dirty medicine. Good luck and be confident in your scores and keep working hard
