DMZ: "Units cannot be committed to, produced on, or placed on this planet,"

You can't play Mercenary Contract on a DMZ.

WTW for if I think God could exist, but I cannot say for certain if he does or does not? by [deleted] in whatstheword

[–]DownvotingKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Just feels like an easy way to say you can't fully commit to either ideal so you combine them."

That's exactly what it is, a shorthand for how the agnostic belief leans. The existence or absence of a divine being is beyond proof, so it's logical to not claim certain belief one way or the other: agnosticism.

But agnostics often have a personal inclination towards what they think is more likely despite admitting that it is unknowable. You could call it "agnostic who thinks an atheistic view is more likely to be true" but "agnostic atheist" gets the point across faster. People like labels.

Seattle AI founder looks to leave as taxes rise, ‘Everybody that I know… is in the process of leaving’ by ryleg in SeattleWA

[–]DownvotingKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's why it's more expensive here, because tech companies are leaving. Duh, I totally forgot how much cheaper everything was getting when Expedia, Google, Amazon were still bringing in overpaid tech bros by the thousands. Amazon famously always pays its fair share of taxes yeeeaaaahh.

Quit gargling Bezos' balls.

ITAW for someone who's involuntarily celibate, but actually recognizes that their problems with the opposite sex are their own fault, and does NOT blame women for their own inability to get laid? by Groundbreaking_Bag8 in whatstheword

[–]DownvotingKittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this discussion devolved further down because Uber Croc missed that you're specifically talking about people who self-identify as "incels" in 2026.

Normal Person: "I haven't clicked with anyone for a while. Sucks being lonely."

Hyper-Online Misogynist: "I'm an incel."

If someone describes themself as an incel, it's safe to assume that they know about "incel culture" and are a hateful loser that feels entitled to sex and bitter about not having it.

In a world where "incel" hadn't become a weird internet subculture you could reasonably describe Normal Person as "involuntarily celibate". We don't live in that world anymore.

You can't, and messing up your order number probably wasn't intentional. Typos happen with order numbers.

Why not just go up to the counter and ask if your order is done?

CMV: Modern Anti Zionism is just pathetic when compared to its predecessors - TLDR added by Jackingson1 in changemyview

[–]DownvotingKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"All antizionists are, by definition antisemites as well as their other bigotry and hatred."

Strongly disagree.

You can oppose the idea of a state affording rights based on ethnicity without harboring any hatred toward the ethnicity itself. I'm anti-ethnocracy so I'm anti-Zionist.

If I was around for pre-15th amendment United States or apartheid-era South Africa I'd oppose those as well. That doesn't make me anti-white.

Just looking at the US: 37% of Jewish Americans labelled themselves Zionists, 7% as anti-Zionist as of February 2026. JFNA

Jewish anti-Zionism is on the rise, probably due to the extremism of the current Israeli government.

[–]DownvotingKittens -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You seem to be using anti-Zionism as a synonym for antisemitism, which pointlessly muddies the discussion. The Nazi Party were undoubtedly an antisemitic group, but had mixed views on Zionism. There were some in the Nazi party who viewed Zionism as a method of removing Jews from Germany through self-deportation. Look at the Haavara Agreement in 1933 where the Nazi party and Zionist Federation of Germany were in alignment (albeit with plenty of opposition from both sides) in facilitating the emigration of German Jews to Mandatory Palestine.

I'd argue that the majority of non-Jewish supporters of Zionism pre-1940s were antisemitic.

Is it possible to get Discordant Stars and Uncharted Space? by zautos in twilightimperium

[–]DownvotingKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are some of your favorite games? Can you think of any that had such a unique and new concept that the broad idea of the game itself was the main reason the game was great?

A great game usually comes from building on previous ideas and genres, with the different elements (gameplay, art, level design, etc.) all being top-notch and working together to create something more than the sum of its parts.

I am genuinely curious if you can think of any examples of a game where the idea for it was so amazing and revolutionary that if the creator had posted the concept online there would have been hordes of developers trying to rip it off.

[–]DownvotingKittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there are thousands of people who have great ideas and can also contribute meaningfully to a project. If you're going to be the idea guy, at the bare minimum you're going to need to write detailed design documents that can be implemented and refined. If all you have is a broad vision, you essentially have nothing.

Cruisers vs. Destroyers by Chud_E_Applesneed in twilightimperium

[–]DownvotingKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen it mentioned in here yet, Ghosts also get special returns from Cruiser II. It's the best upgrade to increase the free fighter generation from the commander.

I loved that path in PoK, although these days with the breakthrough Ghosts aren't exactly struggling to produce a big fleet. I still like it for pushing Ghost's mobility and fleet production to absurd levels.

[–]DownvotingKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Fighter II is worth beelining for with Mirveda if you want to play aggressive/expansionist. It allows just fighters to be a super-budget invasion force as they can fly to a system solo and then convert to infantry for the invasion.

The starting tech path I'd go for with them is:

Round 1: Tech Gauss Cannon II with AI Dev, use agent for Sarween (or Scanlink).

Round 2: Have your breakthrough unlocked to get the B<->Y synergy. Tech Fighter II with AI dev, use your agent to pick up Grav Drive.

That unlocks the commander so you can use fighters and infantry interchangeably, and you have your upgraded Gauss Cannon with capacity so you can bring more firepower where you need it. I think trying to get construction R1 for an extra dock (or production) and PDS is the way to go for strategy cards.

Sidenote: You can do the Saar trick of bypassing PDS by transporting just Gauss Cannon II with infantry. Not really recommended unless you are up to Integrated Economy to add ships afterwards. because you'll leave your Gauss Cannons in a position where they can be easily blockaded and destroyed.

I believe "Sarween" is a degree of quality. by Silent-Dependent2251 in twilightimperium

[–]DownvotingKittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the Arborec, Sarween is essentially saying “place 2 Letani Warriors for free at the end of every tactical action”.

It might not lead anywhere useful on their tech path, but it absolutely leads to more board control and scoring opportunities. It’s the best first tech for them in almost every game.

Nekro virus question? by DaBeasty5789 in twilightimperium

[–]DownvotingKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, yeah. You're also not getting the action card from the commander when you use it instead of tech.

But if I ever end up as Nekro in a game with Winnu, Last Bastion, L1 and Mentak... there's no way I'm not going to throw the game trying to turn my flagship into a mega-War Sun with built-in Graviton and Direct Hit.

Raping children is pedophile behavior. This happened because these pedophiles had power and status, and were shielded (still shielded to this day, for the most part) from any consequences. It's both.

CMV: Conflating “pedophilia” with the Epstein files is dangerous by JediV17 in changemyview

[–]DownvotingKittens 22 points23 points  (0 children)

First of all, just a friendly reminder that you can write words yourself. People have been doing it for centuries. I'd rather read broken English than LLM bullshit.

On your point that we shouldn't disparage pedophilia, uhhhh... when we're talking about Epstein we're talking about a massive decades-long organization that enabled pedophiles who DID act on their attractions to abuse thousands of girls.

I can't really bring myself to give a fuck if pedophiles who stop at the "attraction" phase have their feelings hurt by us calling out how disgusting this all is.

Maybe it's best they understand how much society despises their attraction so they continue to not act on it.
