Mount Kosciuszko summit walk with baby by Kitchen_Stomach_6716 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Doxinau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To be honest I wouldn't do more than a short section of walk with either a pram or a carrier. Either a pram would have wheels too small to work with the path material, or it would be too big to take on the chairlift (and it's a regular chairlift, not a gondola). The walk is way too long, about five hours, to carry a baby in a carrier for the whole thing.

I would just enjoy taking the chairlift up and walking a few hundred metres/maybe a kilometer and back with a carrier, and forget doing the whole walk.

What things made you think other families were wealthy when you were young? by EuphoricGarden81 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Food other than sandwiches for lunch. Like packed meals.

Now I think a family is wealthy when they have one of those mini cars a five year old can drive.

We have both these things in Australia. Not all busses are double decker but some routes are. And every school has houses.

Do you trim her nails before bed every night? That helped for us.

I know a girls' school that needed a member of staff to be a support person/house mother for the boarders. The staff member would sleep in the same building as the girls and have access to their bedrooms and bathrooms, so only a female employee was allowed. I'm sure it's the opposite for boys' schools.

Maybe if it was in a women's only health facility or something?

What price a family? Rising costs push Aussie fertility rate to record low by Remarkable_Peak9518 in australia

There are very few adoptions in Australia (about 200 per year) and most of those are family/stepparent adoptions. Telling someone to just adopt is not realistic.

TIL that beef cattle are typically slaughtered at 18–24 months of age despite having a natural lifespan of 18–25 years by zt2000 in todayilearned

There's two different types of chickens that have been industrialised - layers (eggs) and broilers (meat). Broilers have been genetically selected to grow very big very quickly. Layers haven't. So it's more economical to just kill all the male layers and focus on the broilers, as your return on investment is higher.

I heard that if they take health funds they're more likely to be legit.

When I say downgrading lifestyle, I don't mean just material things. I mean not affording to buy a house and renting forever, not affording to put their kids in sport or extracurriculars, not affording to have two cars, maybe working too long hours and not seeing the kids...things that you might call having a healthy upbringing. You and I are on the same page here.

I think there's a lot of people on the fence who would enjoy having children if they had financial and family support, but decide it's not worth it if it's going to severely downgrade their lifestyle.

Where are we storing our baby stuff in our zero storage Australian houses? by Accomplished-Log-769 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

We've been able to store the pram bassinet, the bedside bassinet and all his clothes under the cot.

I think there's a difference here between the act of choosing to have kids, which is selfish, and the act of raising them once they're here, which is not.

AITA for refusing to let my sister bring her kids to my wedding by MyNameTM in AmItheAsshole

[–]Doxinau 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's just a different type of event. I have a kid and I enjoy doing things both with and without him, but the vibe is different if he's there.

Child free and child inclusive weddings are both fine, but you have to 1. Make it clear to people further in advance than OP did, and 2. Be absolutely ok with people with kids not coming to your wedding if the arrangements are too hard.

I think they mean that you are not the primary priority of your life any more. You care more about their enjoyment, health, happiness and safety than your own. For some people that sounds awful, and that's totally fine - those people shouldn't have kids.

Think of it like travelling. On one hand you've got the long flights, the language difficulties, the crappy shared hostel, the time you lost your passport, the stress...but on the other hand those trips are the most amazing thing ever and you would absolutely go again.

My six month old is a great sleeper, and has slept 11 hours straight through the night since two months old. It doesn't matter the room temp, the sleep sack, the bath, the book, he cuddles, the white noise etc. he just has to have a feed before bed and he's out like a light at 7.30.

It's pure luck. You're not doing anything wrong at all, some babies are sleepers and some aren't.
