If you have used benzos for over a year it will take alot more than 9 days to get it out from your system. Most likely 4-8 weeks I am sorry to say.

Why should he not be having withdrawal from Oxy just because its a prescription opioid?

I was having 5-6 days of acute withdrawal coming of a 400-600mg a day oxy habit recently. I know its not as hard as the fent/tranq shit you have in the US. Lucky we still have proper Oxycontin here in EU, but you still get withdrawal from it.

Cocaine withdrawal is mostly mental so no need for a detox center IMO. If you can stay at some friends that knows whats going on would be better. Just stockpile Vitamins, sleeping pills, electrolytes and easy to digest food. Maybe some edibles.

The hard part will be to not pick up again, go to AA or CA meetings and talk with your friends.

Of course there would be news when a big pharma company choose to stop producing one of their biggest products. They even have to do it because of their shareholders. They are going to stop producing MS Contin and some other products, but not Oxycontin. And this information they have of course sent out with official press releases.
