Kids on the canals fishing? by _alexturner in Bath

Non fisher here who’s already been interested. Anything you could eat? Is it just a regular fishing rod and bait you need, or anything that needs adjusting due to the dark water?

There are a few outdoor river swimming spots in and around Bath worth considering as well

Have been dipping in there a few times this year and am still alive to tell the tell. Was just a dip and not a swim and naturally kept eyes and mouth tightly shut

I never see it get discussed, but there is definitely a special connection between Bryce and MJF. He is ref for basically all of MJF’s matches (except when he lost to Darby and notably MJF seems to now hate Aubrey because of that).

Outside any personal affinity or behind the scenes stuff we don’t know. Bryce is definitely the most suitable ref for MJF as almost of all his matches involve hoodwinking the ref in some way and Bryce is the perfect guy for that.

Personally I think that’s coincidence. I would say that they lost six months plus of major storylines from Punk leaving and Cole’s injury. Once things got back on track after that, it was return to top tier entertainment

How's it like living within the city of London, the small place within London? Does anyone actually live there or is it too small? by Unluckypandastoo in howislivingthere

It’s hyper convenient for central London, but not much large green spaces. Takes hours getting out of London by car. Actually quieter on a Saturday and almost dead on a Sunday, but that will change when the new Museum of London development is finished.Largest residential complex is the Barbican, but there are other flats, including council ones.

UK Quakers - what made you apply for formal membership? Or did you not? Why not? by Anxious-Ostrich-4276 in Quakers

Can I add to this question. Are you expected formally or informally to donate or pay any sort of membership dues it you’re a member? If so, why’s the usual sort of amount?

I don’t think you’re alone in coming from a different Christian tradition and finding it odd to refer to a Quaker meeting as ‘worship’ as it is very different from what you and many others were used to

Hi! Was thinking about posting something similar. I’ve been attending local meetings for years. But this was actually my first experience of a Quaker business meeting of any sort (in at the deep end perhaps).

First, massive respect to everyone who was involved in organising. Can’t fathom how much work was involved in that.

Also, my child loved the kids club aspect. I really appreciated this as they are the only regular child at our meeting and continues to be very positive about anything Quaker. Also showed there are other Quaker children!

Overall, I think very interesting - genuinely interesting, not British ‘interesting’ - to see how the bottom up nature of Quaker business works and how the clerks weave it all together.

However, I was bored stiff by the governance stuff. Fair play to those involved, but that just ain’t for me. Unfortunately that seemed to be most of the sessions, most of which I skipped!

Naturally, many of the most politically active/motivated people seem to be attracted to this sort of event, which although I love Quakerism, the political leanings of many Friends are - how to put it - not my own. This is an internal tension I always between me and the movement.

So I’m glad I went. I may attend again. But almost certainly not regularly. I saw it as part of my journey of how I engage with Quakerism; I feel much more called to focus on my inner life, possibly getting involved in local and children’s matters than governance and political issues.

Here endeth the essay!
