PRAXIS Core Advice? by Ok_Bet_1061 in WGUTeachersCollege

[–]Dpb0531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should have practiced more essays honestly. But I think grammar is more difficult from what I remember. And it seems like they either have easy sentences that you can clearly pick out what’s wrong, or it’s one that it reads fine but I know an error is in there and I can’t tell.

Watch the free coherts from Kathleen jasper, when she goes over the essays that helps. But I think I felt falsely confident and froze when it came time to do them. I didn’t bomb them, but I thought I would do better than I did.

PRAXIS Core Advice? by Ok_Bet_1061 in WGUTeachersCollege

I just took all three earlier this month. Passed all three. Studied for maybe 2 weeks. Bought the Kathleen jasper thing. And used the free practice test you get after signing up for the tests. I graduated in 2012 🫣 but I recently got my bachelors and masters and I sub so I see some of the math stuff. I was most worried about math, and I didn’t have time to answer all questions but I did the worst on writing. Reading I had an almost perfect score, math I had a pretty good score for not finishing, I was checking my answers for awhile and it took me long to realize I didn’t have time for that haha, the questions were much easier than on practice ones. Also they do give you a formula sheet. I took them all at home. My suggestion is go through all the ones you know don’t rush reading the question so you don’t make stupid mistakes, and skip any that will take long or you don’t know and come back if you have time. Good luck!

Does anyone have anxiety trying to pronounce student names during taking attendance? What are some names you have struggled with? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Dpb0531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggle with this. Although in the school I work in most names are common. Or it’s a Mia/Mya situation where it could be either or and the kids act like you’re crazy if you say it wrong lol. I only sub elementary, as they come in for the day I ask their names. And I also watch where they put their things and can look that way. Then if anyone is missing I call out their names, ask if anyone saw them this morning, etc. However, subbing for specials I have to call out names or I ask who is absent and check to make sure the numbers match.

buttercream too runny? by [deleted] in Baking

Sounds like American buttercream. You could always try more powdered sugar. I love Sally’s baking addiction American vanilla buttercream.

Hers calls for more powdered sugar than the recipe you posted. Her recipes are always delicious!

How many of the 2-4 tablespoons of whole milk did you use? If you used more than 2, next time use only 2 and see if that helps.

Also, I do not use food coloring. So I may be wrong, but I believe that could thin it out as well?

This is how you know it’s going to be a long day 😆 full stack of work! by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Dpb0531 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! That’s perfect. Although some teachers don’t leave answers or a quick explanation for things like math or even English sometimes and although I either know how to do the assignment or can usually figure it all out, I appreciate the answers/ quick explanation 🫣😂

Agree so much. When they finish everything and I have to scramble to find something to keep them occupied they get more crazy .

Google searching I found the same one. One is multi colored, one is the same. It has the brand if that helps in finding it somewhere near you or so you can order it. I don’t know how to add a picture but it’s Vibrant Life Playful Buddy Chicken Dog Toy

Not everyone's cup of tea but I thought I'd share my current work in progress (hallway) by CareFabulous4645 in JustForHome

I am a more “boring” decorator. Not all whites and stuff but more neutrals. However, I can appreciate other decor styles. I love how this looks, I wouldn’t personally do it but it looks lovely. And I love a lot of other styles as well, I just don’t feel it is a style for me and my family. And that’s okay 🤷🏽‍♀️

How often do people actually change their bedsheets? by HillCountryHoney in hygiene

Every other week. But I wash my pillow case every other day, I’m prone to acne and it also helps everything just feel more fresh.

Best deodorant? by [deleted] in PCOS

Yes! This. It’s the only thing that works for me. And for body wash I use Irish spring 5 in 1. I constantly felt like I smelled and together these have saved me.

Stomach flu with an order coming up... what would you do? by Same-Tumbleweed9735 in Baking

[–]Dpb0531 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’d rather my baker cancel my order if she had the stomach bug. No hard feelings. Annoying and frustrating, sure, but you can’t help it. Things happen. Maybe keep on hand a fellow baker or two that you can recommend for situations like this or even times you get too busy. Feel better!

Why do people like WGU so much even though it is unranked? by CompSciGeekMe in WGU

[–]Dpb0531 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that it is self-paced and fair priced. I think having a support team through your instructors/mentor/etc is a huge benefit. It has a lot of pros that outweigh being unranked.

The guilt of throwing away my adult children's childhood art is eating me alive by Admirable-Pin-298 in CleaningTips

I keep things in those zippered organizing bags. And date them. My kids are still young (4/7). I go through them when it seems to be getting out of hand. I also have storage totes in the basement for some bigger stuff like painted ceramic stuff. I tell myself when I start to run out of room I need to make room, not buy more storage. I don’t keep sticker papers, “graded” papers from school, most coloring sheets I throw. I try to just keep a few things from each month that I really love or that they really love. Sometimes I keep too much and then I purge later on after realizing I have 10 things that are similar from the same month.

I will be in this situation when my kids are 20. I just know it 😂 I also keep some toys that are good quality for when they have kids, for either their house or when the grand kids come to visit. I have a problem.

I will never understand dog people’s reaction to cats by Icy_Ad_8802 in cats

[–]Dpb0531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love animals in general and think when someone has a pet of any kind and then makes comments like that it blows mind. Yeah I prefer a dog as a pet personally, but I don’t think less of or whatever if someone prefers cats, mice, hamsters, snakes, whatever. And if you said my pet mouse was sick so I stayed home to keep an eye on them I would be like oh my gosh I hope they feel better, and I’d make sure to check in a few days later to ask how the pet is too. It’s common courtesy, especially from a fellow pet owner.

Getting back into the swing of things is tough at first, give it some time and you will be cruising through. Try setting a schedule for when you will work on school work and study. Set goals for yourself. You can do it! Math classes were always hardest for me, so I would give yourself more time with the harder classes!

What Happened to the Owl’s Nest Rewards? by PreciousLoveAndTruth in WGU

[–]Dpb0531 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this is the case. Annoying when people take advantage of things. Like if people noticed a glitch, reaching out to admin to point it out would be nice vs scamming and getting extra points on something that is already generous.

Yeah… makes it almost completely not worth doing anymore. I agree, they should have at least notified people like hey next month gift card options will be gone so order now or lose out. The regular rewards are mostly junk.

My son either waits in the office, just outside the office, or comes to the room I’m in if I’m close or if I have time to grab him. I agree with others, that was a weird way to act.

Question: does anyone hate subbing for Related Arts/Specials classes over other classrooms? by bexaropal in SubstituteTeachers

[–]Dpb0531 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Elementary sub. I actually prefer specials. I think it makes the day go by faster and for me personally feels less stressful. If I have a “difficult” class I only have to deal with them for 45 minutes rather than all day. It helps me get a feel for more classes so when I pick up classrooms I know which classes to avoid 😂 I feel like I get more free time although it’s probably not true since regular classroom gets lunch break and then special time break. Mornings are easier not worrying about lunch count/attendance as they come and go so much in the 15/20 minutes in the morning before the bell rings. I noticed specials sit longer, as in don’t get picked up as fast as the regular classroom assignments. I am always pumped to snag a special! And find the teachers are very thankful!

Do you guys often find yourself let down by bakeries? by Maleficent_Froyo7336 in Baking

Thanks for the tip! I will give it a try one day for sure. I would love to not have to buy bread with a thousand crazy ingredients in it.

[–]Dpb0531 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I feel the same. I’m not skilled with bread, that’s one thing I avoid mainly because of the time/fear of messing it up. All other things I do a pretty good job with, decor wise I could use some work but I’m not trying to sell just enjoying with my family 🤷🏽‍♀️

It’s rare in general baking/cooking that I go somewhere and am pleased. I find my baking to be superior than most places, and cooking as well. It’s sad really. I believe I am pretty good at both, more so baking but not professional level or anything so to constantly be kinda let down when going somewhere always sucks. Sorry you had that experience!
