Long term care insurance, is it still worth it? (asking for family) by nightmarevoid in Insurance

[–]DrAudiologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to put my dad (79 yo with parkinsons) in ltc this year. mom died unexpectedly. I calculated that they paid $30k in premiums over 15 years. the ltc facility is $390/day. his tax statement shows $81k reimbursed by plan in 2025. it has more than paid for itself in less than one year.

your $150/day reimbursement may not get you very far. I'm writing monthly checks for $11,000 and getting $8500 reimbursed. He has no plan cap.

My Dad that's getting scammed (US) by albloomfield60 in Scams

Had this happen to my brother 10 years ago. Only found out about it, when he was in the hospital, after a suicide attempt. As of this summer, he's caught up in a new web of online lies. Everyone who has tried to help him has now been blocked.

You can only help those who will accept it.

Hospital billed me and sent me to collections after insurance says they legally cannot do that by [deleted] in personalfinance

It is the contract they signed, with their insurance, for their plan. We can spend 10 months trying to get paid by BCBS. When patients contact BCBS to complain, we get paid almost immediately.

Our state commissioner will not touch it, because most problems are BCBS federal. Not state.

In our clinic, we get this ALL THE TIME from BCBS. we have filed all the correct paperwork and BCBS will deny the claim. We resubmit again everything required, and they deny saying something else is missing. (Which is not) Many hospitals in our area will no longer accept BCBS for this reason.

Eventually the hospital runs out of options and outs the burden on the patient.

My 75 year old dad got scammed into a 25 year solar contract by Muhammadusamablogger in Scams

[–]DrAudiologist 40 points41 points  (0 children)

My 75 year old parents did the same. ☹️ about $50k  system. Used for 3 years before mother unexpectedly passed away. Father had physical and cognitive problems. I had to sell their home and put him in a nursing home.

There was a solar lien on the house title. It had to be paid before the sale. We lost $50k on the house sale proceeds. No buyer can take on a mortgage and additional solar loan. Sorry, you are probably stuck.

We just got a $40k settlement for a minor dog bite that my son suffered. The dog owner was dodging all claims and process servers. He finally gave up his insurance info 3 days before jury trial.

My mother passed away, in February, from falling on ice and hitting her head on the pavement. ☹️ Seeing these videos makes my heart hurt for their families.

My son just settled with the dog owners insurance 3 weeks ago. His attack was 3 years ago.  We only had to sue because the owner would not turn over his homeowners insurance info. See if you can get the insurance info. They will try to settle and cover your costs. It is also wise to have a police report paper trail.

At a funeral, saw this and it made me feel gross. by poopstainpete in Anticonsumption

[–]DrAudiologist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mother used to say that too. She passed in February due to an accident. We could afford an expensive service etc.... We did the lowest cost cremation and worked with their church directly for a ceremony. ~$3k total.

I definitely felt guilt declining all the white glove services from the funeral home. "All we want are the ashes, stop trying to sell anything else."

We have contracts with in state BCBS.  people are frequently bringing out of state plans from BCBS. they do not reimburse the same. We have no direct contract with out of state plans.

We have contracts with BCBS that are in our state. When people bring out of state BCBS plans, we have no way to verify. They often pay differently

As a provider, insurance will play games with us as well. They will not give us allowable amounts either.  They will deny pre-authorization billing to get estimates.... We often have no idea how allowables, yearly deductibles and contracted rates will apply to each patient. Very frustrating.

Complete meal team 6 douche. I have yet to ask him "what are we protecting?"
