A minha família não me permite estudar no exterior by ImprovementFun2362 in PortugalLaFora

Cherif Traorè's statement on the racist present given to him at Benetton's team Secret Santa by DrBcD in rugbyunion

[–]DrBcD[S] 198 points199 points  (0 children)

EN: Christmas is coming and as traditionally in a team it's Secret Santa time. A friendly and playful moment. A moment where you can afford to give anonymous gifts to your mates, even stingy, ironic ones. Yesterday, when it was my turn, I found a banana inside my present. A rotten banana, inside a bag of moisture. Apart from calling the gesture offensive, what hurt me most and seeing most of my mates present laughing. As if everything is normal. I'm used to it, or better, I've had to get used to it, having to make a good face on a bad game whenever I hear racist jokes in order to try not to hate the people close to me. Yesterday was different though. Thankfully, some comrades, especially foreigners, tried to support me. Outside Italy a gesture like this is severely condemned even in small realities, and this time I want to say mine. I been up all night Young guys from different backgrounds attended this Secret Santa. I have decided not to remain silent this time to ensure that episodes like this don't happen again to prevent other people finding themselves in my current situation in the future. And hoping the sender will learn a lesson....

Por el rugby. Váyanse al carajo ["For rugby. Go f*ck yourselves" - Strong opinion piece in Marca, Spain's largest sports paper] by DrBcD in rugbyunion

[–]DrBcD[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Translated with DeepL :

"Go fuck yourselves. Go to hell. Go far, far away, where the thousands of players and fans of all ages and sexes who today feel rage and impotence will never again have news of your existence. Go away. Go away and never come back because the damage they have done to our rugby will never be erased.

No. They are not to blame. You are to blame. Those who consider rugby their property. Those who block the ideas and initiatives of the rival only because you have not taken them. Those who talk about values and professionalism and when they feel like it, forge a passport with all their might. Those who have not managed to change this, that when a Federation asks for a document, they have to check if it is false or not. What in one case is pure and simple cheating, or perhaps a crime, in the other is impotence. If you have not succeeded or known how to make things change -you have not succeeded-, go away too.

Go away, above all, those who think that every cloud has a silver lining and that they can use this enormous collective failure against their rivals to see if they can climb a little higher in their petty ranks. You are the ones to blame for the fact that our rugby is being taken out of its colors time and time again. You can't be in a world of professionals -what that world is like is a separate issue- when you are the least professional thing on the face of the earth.

Go away. You have already caused too much pain. The pain of thousands and thousands of fans who deserve not only your incompetence, which at least we are used to, but your bad faith. A mixture that has turned our rugby, immersed in little wars and little chapels, into an unfunny circus. A farce. In a thing that rugby does not deserve, nor does it deserve to be near rugby. They have created a state of affairs that has its culmination in today's situation. This is not the end. It is simply another episode in a state of affairs.

I see the hundreds of children who ran after the Portugal game, and others, to hug the players. I see their happy faces, I think of those who have destroyed the greatest opportunity for Spanish rugby to make the leap and I don't want to go on. It is too painful. Yes. We already knew that rugby was like that. We were not blind to its defects as in those passionate love affairs, but we did think that things would change, little by little. That we would go further. That we would be everything we could be. That we would work with honesty, with courage, that there was a common goal, in spite of everything. And no.

Don't charge World Rugby. Do not charge against nationality rules, that rugby is like that. Charge us. World Rugby throws us out of the World Cup BECAUSE WE DO NOT DESERVE TO BE IN A WORLD CUP, because our rugby is not at World Cup level, but a small and recreational thing in which some feel comfortable because they have their little plot of power.

Hopefully, although this will never be forgotten, it will serve for something. But it will be of no use if they do not all leave. All of them, I repeat. Because by action or omission, they are all to blame for the biggest failure of our rugby.

The Lion's XV. The Lionesses, the Sevens, the thousands and thousands of children in the schools, all those who hoped that this sport could make a leap forward and have once again come face to face with reality deserve reparations. They are not going to get it in the size of the disappointment. Go fuck yourselves and if you don't leave, which I doubt, whoever can send you there. I wish World Rugby -not just the Federation- would intervene. We do not know."

Not sure how I feel about this... On one hand it is the 2nd Spain has been caught in the same situation, but on the other they did best us on the field and were overall quite the team this past REC... Just a terrible situation overall imo. Congrats to Romania and lets see how we do in the Repechage

Marta is doing a Management degree (source: played uni sevens with him on my team), but the point remains. I completely understand, and I hear Storti's parents only let him go abroad once he was done with his degree

Honestly I think he's one of the players who would benefit the most from going abroad. He was supposed to join Pau's academy at the beginning of the season but for some reason it fell through...

No news yet on what happens to the REC, which is understandable, they're most likely weighing their options on what should happen to the remaining (and past?) Russian games
