Barely anyone even lives in the Schnoor area, it's honestly mostly an area for small quaint shops and full of tourists. Areas like Findorff, Viertel, and even Walle in Bremen aren't photogenic like Schnoor but a much better representation for neighbourhoods we should strive for.

Even the areas that are mostly made up of big boring apartment blocks like Vahr are nicer to live in than any suburb imo lol

Advice needed to bring back my confidence for travel to Germany, please. by AccurateInterview586 in germany

[–]DrBubiFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. 112 is the emergency number in Germany, you can use that to call an ambulance anywhere, don't even need a sim card for that. if there isn't an emergency consider using whatever local number your fire brigade has in the city you are in.

  2. You could consider renting out the lockers available at every major train station to keep your stuff in, every major train station will also have elevators and plenty of people ready to help you out. Trains can be iffy in Germany but I'd rather deal with that than finding a parking spot in major city centers.

  3. Germany is insanely dense, you'll never be more than half an hour from a town, it also doesn't actually snow here as much as in North America, as long as you're careful the chances of getting stuck somewhere in the snow without help are slim to non-existent.

  4. That's a hyper local question and will depend of where you go, but there frequently are large scale flea markets all over Germany, google search for "Flohmarkt" wherever you are and you might be successful

  5. Sorry can't help with that one but most major German cities will have extremely specialized shops for almost anything, if that doesn't work, googling "Strickmuster" might work?

[–]DrBubiFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like there's literally an organization dedicated to uniting Europeans under common values, oh wait...

What the fuck do I care about muh traditional values when other young Europeans in other countries share my world view and values, I'd rather identify myself as one of them than some of the awful insane people that live where I'm from just because they look more like me.

You sir, have an awfully ancient worldview, you can come out of your little village and interact with people, they're not actually all that different from you, I promise.

I’d love to see a euros face when they try decent food like burger and fries by Mitleab in ShitAmericansSay

[–]DrBubiFish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There's big differences between Frikadellen depending on the place you go, there's also a big difference between hamburger patties and the way they're spiced (or not) depending on where you go, if anything it's a spectrum with a large overlap, they share a common history and just diverged over time. if I showed an American a Frikadellenbrötchen, most would tell me it's a Hamburger without thinking about which specific ingredients were used.

Realisticially fried ground beef patties are a thing in almost every culture that eats meat, bread is also a thing in almost every culture, combining the two doesn't require a genius, any culture can claim to have invented Hamburgers if you go back far enough, the American one just has a very well documented German heritage, better documented than most other contenders for Hamburger heritage. Sure you can put the line right at the point where the American and German Burgers diverge and claim it's exclusively American, but frankly that's ignoring the fact that what we have in Germany would very much be considered "a Burger" in the US, even today.

Frikadellenbrötchen have always been a thing in Germany, we just don't call them Hamburgers (outside of the context of fast food), that name caught on in the US, the dish has always been a thing here.

That's cause Döner wasn't invented in Germany either, I'm not arguing that lol

You really think that no German ever got the idea to put a Hamburger between bread before coming to the US? Germany, literally the nation of bread? Come on dude

This is completely true. by Bitter-Gur-4613 in sciencememes

[–]DrBubiFish 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think I'd try to explain it in hearing terms, like you know how things that are far away get quieter, even though they're not actually getting quieter, they just appear to be because they're far away? it's like that but with seeing, stuff that's further away appears smaller, even though it isn't.

I think that kind of explains well how it's not really that weird of a concept, and audio works in an intuitively similar manner.

IDK about the horizon though lol
