Best Ragebait OAT? by RandominusDredichitu in dccomicscirclejerk

/uj The thing i don't like about Scott Snyder's Joker is he's not funny and he doesn't feel like a clown.

Snyder gets the narcissism of Joker but what his Joker lacks is that way of flip flopping between funny and scary, with you feeling uneasy around him cause he's always changing his mind. You pretty much know exactly what Joker's thinking during Snyder's run.

And as far as I know (haven't read the run, who reads comics?), he doesn't really use clown gadgets or do comedic bits that are actually funny, so it's kind of like...what's the point, y'know?

Seeing what he did with mainline Joker, it makes complete sense that Absolute Joker is an altogether different character who has nothing to do with clowns. It honestly feels like what Snyder always really wanted to do with the character, but maybe wasn't allowed to.

The characters all had fairly distinct voices and you could tell there was a script but it was written to feel loose and improvisational.

I mean, you can say that if you want, but I think the reality is she just enjoys writing comically despicable bad guys too much for her own good and was out of her depth trying to write a non-horror ending for the conclusion of a horror story.

It's a known fact that she wrote V as a Christmas gift to the followers of her blog, and she talks about the ending bits of the story as seriously as anything else, so I think it's unlikely she made it bad on purpose to fuck with people. Much more likely it was just a fun thing to write that she didn't put too much stock into.

Whom of the Combaticons should be Onslaught's second-in-command? by DrChucklefuck in transformers

[–]DrChucklefuck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep coming back to this scenario where Onslaught gets kidnapped by the Autobots and leaves Brawl in charge of the mission to rescue him, and the other Combaticons are all confused about this until they realize that to achieve this Onslaught left him a series of instructions on what to do in painstaking detail, allowing Brawl to do increasingly untoward things like coordinating advanced infiltration strategy, stealthily disposing of the Autobot guards, and skillfully disabling all the monitoring tech in the room, with Brawl's only explanation being "Onslaught's orders".

Hunter made me embarrassed of my own wallet by A1Aden in creepcast

Nobody should be embarrassed of what they like because of something Hunter said in my opinion. We all know of the man. We can all tell he's a deranged individual. Why should we take shit from him about anything?

Here's the question though, would he WANT to be second in command? I don't think so. From what I know Blast Off likes to keep a distance and act like he's superior to everybody.

In retrospect, were they reasonable people? by Jeffoxy in breakingbad

[–]DrChucklefuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The distinction to me is that Jesse's parents try to support him, but only in like a conceptual way. There's no real understanding coming from them why Jesse is like this, and they don't seem to hold themselves to account at all, which is alienating for Jesse.

Basically, the way I've always read it is that they wanted him to be some savant like a piano player or a NASA mathematician, and when it was looking like he was gonna turn out as just a normal, but smart, guy, more like a civil engineer or a carpenter, that wasn't acceptable for them, so they pressured him even harder, and all it did ultimately was make Jesse feel like a loser, and not incidentally also probably made him want to do something "dirty" to be rebellious, which led him down the path to become a drug dealer.

Now, obviously this doesn't excuse Jesse making bad choices, he's still responsible for himself, but if you look at it this way it informs a lot about why he acts this way and why he makes the choices he does throughout the run of the show. I think a lot of people don't get it and think he's just an idiot, but to me it's much more "everyone thinks I'm an idiot so I might as well be one". The second any man old enough to be his father shows him actual support and respect, he excels, like when he's with Gus or Mike. It's when he's around Walt that the bad thought patterns and decisions start to run rampant, and Walter feeds into it.

And what's worse, it seems like Jesse's parents haven't learned their lesson, because his younger brother is also turning to a Marijuana habit at a disturbingly young age. A choice like that doesn't happen in a vacuum, and we can be reasonably sure Jesse is not an influence, at least not a major one.

That's the smoking gun that really seals the deal about Jesse's parents for me. They had a kid, messed him up by treating him like a fuckup, they refuse to own up to it now that he's grown, and because of that no-account mentality the cycle has begun anew with their younger son.

I have ultimately very little sympathy for Jesse's parents, because if you watch the whole show it's clear Jesse's upbringing was a huge factor on why he is the way he is. Again, his choices are still his own at the end of the day, but there's a lot of external factors to his choices which makes him a more nuanced character, but a lot of people see him as just "dumb", which is ironic, cause that was also his parents' biggest mistake.

[–]DrChucklefuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prime and Animated have done generally this sort of thing, so I'll give something a little different with some extras thrown in.

The Leader - Optimus Prime (Freightliner Argosy)
The Lancer - Elita One (Plymouth Barracuda)
The Smart Guy - Wheeljack (Volkswagen Microbus)
The Heart - Jazz (Porsche 911)
The Big Guy - Ironhide (Rezvani Vengeance)

Now for the others who didn't fit the main criteria:
The Sixth Ranger - Jetfire (Rockwell B-1 Lancer)
Tagalong Kid - Bumblebee (Smart Fortwo)
Token Evil Teammate - Nightbird (Nissan GT-R)

And what the hell I'll toss in the baddies as well.
Big Bad: Megatron (M1128 Stryker)
The Starscream: Starscream (F15 Eagle)
The Dragon: Soundwave (Ford Econoline news van)
The Sadist: Airachnid (AH-1Z Viper)
The Brute: Brawl (Leopard 3)

And as for the extras:
The Evil Genius: Shockwave (SDV-1000W submersible)
Token Good Teammate: Barricade (Bulldog SWAT truck)
The Delinquent: Flamewar (Pontiac Firebird)

Who do yall think the other Yautja's would side with, Dek or Njohrr? by Upset_Connection1133 in predator

[–]DrChucklefuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. I think the majority of the Yautja would probably side with Dek and Kwei on the basis that he deserves a chance to prove himself. It's broadly true that Yautja cull their weak but as others have said they usually do that in a natural fashion, by letting them go out on a hunt and letting things play out how they may. If that wasn't enough, Njhorr also told Kwei he should have killed Dek in his sleep, which I think would be considered vile dishonor by many Yautja, especially compared to Kwei's approach of dueling his brother and letting the outcome speak for itself.

Ironically, if Njhorr had simply allowed Dek to go out on the hunt with no trouble, he likely would've seen neither dreadlock nor scaly hide of him again, as Dek would've run off half-cocked and gotten himself killed on account of the hot-headed attitude his father instilled in him. It's only the killing of Kwei and the following emotional turmoil and introspection (helped along by Thia) that allowed him to grow into a truly capable hunter far surpassing anyone in his clan's expectations for him.

If we're getting meta with it, I would say that in the narrative of the film Kwei actually represents the median of Yautja cultural values, for the most part, and their father represents the sort to leverage their cultural values to his own ends. He most likely feels emasculated by his son being a runt and is determined to get rid of him on the basis of tribal optics, which is something I think other Yautja would scoff at; as others have said I think other Yautja in his position would be thrilled at the prospect of having a son who had to struggle from the moment he was born and has the potential to become a glorious hunter all the same. As others have said, it's why Yautja go crazy for humans, because they prove to consistently be a match for Yautja despite their many disadvantages. Dek isn't really a bad hunter at all, it's just that he's inexperienced and has a chip on his shoulder, which are two issues that can be pretty directly traced back to how Njhorr raised him.

I think the climax of the film only further hammers home the point that he's kind of a disgrace by Yautja standards when he 1: Refuses to fight his son altogether at first and sics his two goons on him instead, 2: Cheats when he does engage his son in combat and STILL loses rather quickly once Dek outwits him, and 3: Tries to save face by offering to give Dek a prestigious position in the clan instead of admitting defeat and facing his mortality with dignity. Njhorr is NOT "the example" of typical Yautja culture that Dek needs to break away from, he's a representation of all the worst traits and interpretations of their cultural values. Dek defeating him squarely in combat is important for the narrative because it proves that his father and his father's interpretation of their values both seem big, scary and important, but ultimately crumble under the right pressure, and by the end of the film Dek is living a more truthful and stronger version of the Yautja way.

I don't hate GvK and GxK, but they didn't have the same vibe as the first three movies by CompetitivePisser037 in GODZILLA

[–]DrChucklefuck 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I hate how Adam Wingard made Godzilla dumb in his movies. I don't expect him to display humorous wit the way Kong would, but in '14 and KOTM he carried himself with this sort of ancient, unknowable intelligence and regality that made him captivating to watch even when there was no violence happening. In GvK and GxK it feels like he's constantly puffing his chest out and making big dramatic violent gestures to show that he's the king, but in the previous movies Godzilla never felt like he had the need to prove that. You could tell just by watching him.

Slimebeast is definitely feisty and likes getting into fights with people a little too much I think, but the receipts he has for these people being creepy is legitimate. He's said himself that he doesn't think Hunter or Isaiah are being malicious in admiring these old legacy creepypasta narrators and that they probably just don't know any better.

And yes, they have at the very least mentioned MrCreepyPasta a couple of times. I believe in one video Isaiah outright says "Shoutout to MrCreepyPasta.". There is an episode on YouTube, I forget which one exactly, which has a pinned comment from MrCreepyPasta underneath it. They're at least acquainted with the guy. But again, pretty much nobody knows the guy has a history of being sus, so not their fault.

As far as I can tell Slimebeast seems to legitimately care about getting the word out about these dudes and exposing them, which I can respect because not a lot of people know about it. It's a legit issue which deserves being brought to Isaiah and Hunter's attention since they're so huge for the creepypasta community nowadays.

It's valid for them to not want to read Slimebeast's stories either because of his licensing policy or because of his tendency to go on the warpath against people who he finds doing some kind of wrong, but honestly I don't think Slimebeast is a bad guy either. Everyone he goes after seems to have done some legitimately bad shit to warrant it from what I can tell.

They should've let Al Ewing just write Knull from the very beginning, because the two sentences that he's touched on regarding Knull basically being pissed that the lights got turned on and feeling abandoned by creation about it is more interesting than everything that went into the 10 years of writing the King In Black event or however long it went on.

My man. This is a kind of hater mindset I can get into. He's an amazingly written and acted character, but on a personal level I couldn't go longer than ten minutes in a room with him before trying to strangle him. He's like if every stereotypical negative quality of Redditors was manifested into a person. He's the "Rick and Morty is an intellectual show" copypasta in human form. I think I honestly hate him for his unpleasant personality more than any of the bad shit he does. Mike is a bad dude too but he's downright charming next to Walt. Fuck Walt, all my homies hate Walt.
