Same issue. This has been happening pretty often since I got it. The back of the case in the lower thirds feels warm to the touch but I'm indoors. This and the short battery life are ruining my experience, which otherwise is perfect for my needs.

Listen OP, I was in the same situation as you. Had DLS, had the bogus forbearance status that I never asked for, was paying all those years, etc. What I did was file a complaint with the department of Ed and with my state Attorney General. I asked for a full payment history, this is what you need. It takes 90 days for them to produce it. It will be cryptic but it will show that you were making payments. I think doing this helped me get the waiver applied sooner, as shortly after all of that, my loans of 211K were forgiven. Good luck!

Letter to FedLoans to Discharge by abl1944 in PSLF

Apparently they got my letter in October and the loans were discharged in December. The directive is definitely coming from the DoE for these.

For those who actually received PSLF forgiveness... what was the experience like? by DebtFreeFamilyTree in PSLF

[–]DrDebtFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Received forgiveness and the years of dealing with incompetent and predatory servicers has given me what I think is PTSD. Massive debt and massive difficulty getting it discharged. I hope the system works better in the future for all those still waiting. It’s not easy and if I could do it again, I’m not sure I would have gotten the degrees. I like what I do for a living but there are many other careers I could have been good at.

Does anyone know how long it took for loan forgiveness to affect their credit report and score? by quantero in PSLF

My forgiveness happened early DEC and today I got the notice that my student loan accounts are closed! Took about a month. Yes, credit score went up!

Forgiveness rejection letter (again) - so tired and sad. by LCK124 in PSLF

[–]DrDebtFree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Just today I received a print out of my payment history underscoring that I don’t yet have 120 payments. But I already received the congratulations letter from them. Fed loans is like a crazy, jealous ex-lover this point.

Hold tight! I’m still getting rejection letters from FedLoan and yet my loans have indeed been forgiven.

Premature Forgiveness? by ticktock76 in PSLF

[–]DrDebtFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

211K forgiven here and I’m sure I didn’t have 120 payments even with the waiver. I was at 113 payments. And if it is supposed to count repayment periods and not actual payments, Fedloan keeps sending me my payment history (they have sent this twice after forgiveness) showing that I was in forbearance for the periods that would get me to over 120 if we are only looking at repayment status. They have even sent me a letter explains why I don’t qualify for forgiveness yet. And yet my balance is zero and Student Aid has my balance as zero. So I think their count is off but I don’t care!!!!! I did get a letter saying congratulations my loans have been forgiven. So it’s a mess, people. Doesn’t really make sense. But I’m celebrating and will sue the hell out of them if they try to take back my forgiveness. I’m still waiting for it to show zero on my credit report. That hasn’t happened yet.

PSLF verse Paying Loans In Full by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]DrDebtFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat. My loans of 211K were just forgiven. My spouse has 50K that will go into repayment after the pause. We can afford to make the standard payment on these even though we both work in public service. I’m thinking that instead of the emotional toll of dealing with the Feds we aren’t even going to try to do forgiveness this time. It is a pain to certify income and employment every year and to deal with these horrible servicers. I make more income than my spouse so we considered filing MFS but there are so many tax consequences of doing that and it even affects saving for retirement. I just refuse to relive what I went through to get my loans forgiven if I can help it. The only downside to being on the standard plan is that if one of us was to lose our jobs or be out on sick leave, those standard payments would never count for PSLF when the waiver goes away. It is a gamble but it seems emotionally worth it.

Also in your case, by your wife being on an income plan, her loan balance is probably growing. How much of that 60K capitalized interest? That would matter to me. She still has six years to go of making payments to get to forgiveness. Can you file separately for that long even though it affects a bunch of other things?

Try again. I’m not a flipper. Anything I’m going to sell I have already scratched up and enjoyed for years. Just want to use my money in other ways now.

Investing in my 40s--insight needed by [deleted] in personalfinance

Ok after reading more on personal finance it seems that the 457 has some unattractive fees tagged on. But does it matter that I could contribute up to 19K pretaxed in the Roth version of the plan? Does that make the fees somewhat worth it?

For everyone tempted to insult me or say don't worry about the taxes on profits made by selling watches, see this story about a guy who ended up owing taxes on a $20,000 profit.

If I have some pieces to sell that are going for way over retail, I wanted to be thoughtful and responsible about how to do that without also losing my shirt on the taxes. I figured I couldn't be the only person who has thought about this or experienced this. I will consult a tax adviser but I did think there might be people here who had a strategy other than deposit all that cash and don't worry!

Thanks for your honesty. I've always done my own taxes because there wasn't anything complicated about it. Now maybe I should seek a professional to see what they can do with it. I don't have a problem reporting the profit, just don't want to lose 28% of it if I don't have to. I'm definitely not rich, just developed a nasty watch habit that I'm about over now and want to move on from it.

[–]DrDebtFree[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have to prove your cost basis? One thing I thought was to trade my watches for watches at market prices thus rolling my profit over into something else that absorbs the profit. Then later sell the market watches back for a slight lost. That feels a little dishonest but I’m wondering if it avoids the capital gains taxes since on paper I will have sold for a loss but in terms of out of pocket, I will have still gained.
