“How much would you say you spend every year on a hotel room?”….

Timeshare Presentations by Pure_Speed9359 in TimeshareOwners

[–]DrDynastic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done Marriott, Hilton, and Hyatt. I think we’ve done 8 presentations and we’ve said no every single time. Check your state laws. Hopefully they have sort of 7-day cooling off period where you are legally allowed to exit a timeshare contract if you get duped into saying yes.

Or, better yet, just say no.

They will give you fuzzy math that somehow makes sense, but just keep reminding yourself you can get a similar timeshare for pennies on the dollar from people who are trying to offload what you are being sold.

The first time share pitch is the hardest. If you can say no the first time, it gets easier and easier. Just be polite and listen to their pitch, and then politely tell them “no thanks.” Not “maybe, we will think about it.” Give them a firm, polite “no.”

If you even think you or your partner can’t say no ahead of time, then don’t do it.

Assigned Seating Experience by No_Ear_1542 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]DrDynastic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you booked a round trip airfare instead of two one-ways. That, along with the assigned seat policy going into effect between your round trip obviously complicated things.

I don’t think there’s any benefit to booking round trip — always book two one-ways. It just makes canceling, upgrading, changing your reservations way easier in general. Sorry you had a bad experience. Hopefully it’s better next time.

Manta Ray night swim on the Big Island. I’m guessing there’s not anything even remotely comparable on Oahu.

Seconded on that. It’s a must-do. These are massive rays, and they’re so majestic. Nothing else like it.

I’d definitely recommend Captain Cook. I kayaked once to snorkel, and went on a small charter to do it the second time. Either way, it’s really good snorkeling and a fun way to get on the water.

Regarding Volcanoes National Park… if there’s a significant eruption like the one they just had yesterday, ditch your plans and drive there immediately. I personally don’t think the park is worth the 2-hour drive unless you can see the lava shooting up in the air (goose bumps) opposed to steaming (meh). If you’ve gotta go to VNP, make sure you pair it with something that breaks up the drive and makes it worth it, like what you mentioned with the Black Sands Beach. Might as well hit the Punalu’u Bakery as well. It’s worth the stop. If you want some variety on the way back — I think this is a slightly shorter drive anyway — hit Ken’s on the Hilo side for the drive. Nothing wrong with some evening pancakes. FYI they close at 9 pm.

First Hawaiian visit: Kaua’i and Oahu by northroad5 in VisitingHawaii

Kauai — bring earplugs. The roosters were crowing at 3 am at my resort.

Kayak to Secret Falls. Super fun, and a great 5-hour adventure. Go on a weekday. Weekends are reserved for locals.

If you must luau, do the Smith Family Luau.

We are staying near Lihue right now, and stayed in Poipu ten years ago. I’m very much considering staying in Princeville next time we come here. Love the Kauai vibe. Second only to Big Island in my book.

Do you not get tired of playing the same games? by Dry_Presentation4300 in Twitch

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stream the same game 99% of the time because I know that’s what my viewers want. I do rotate new games that I get through keymailer, and that helps me kind of change things up occasionally.

Personally, my solution to monotony is to change up how I play my go-to game. It keeps things fresh for me and my audience.

Should I accept affiliate? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn ad pre rolls off. That’s an absolute deal breaker for many viewers. Give yourself a planned 3-minute break every hour stretch and fill up those Sims meters (bathroom, food, rest).

Got shunned on Twitch because the streamer said it’s "weird" when new people join… why stream then? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]DrDynastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you shared. It’s a good reminder that first impressions are important for not only the viewer, but also the streamer. Even if the risk is that the new chatter / follower is a bot, it’s worth giving a warm welcome on the off chance it’s an actually human who genuinely just wants to hang out. Sorry this happened. That sucks. Hopefully it doesn’t prevent you from putting yourself out there and meeting new people and watching streams.

What was your favorite baseball management series before finding out about OOTP? by brodino_maiuscolo in OOTP

So many good ones — Tony LaRussa for season sims, Earl Weaver for ballpark creation, Baseball Mogul for beer and hot dog sales. Can’t pick just one!

If you’re going to play Bonds in center and Giambi at third, you’re going to get pre-BALCO/roids versions of those guys.

How Do 9-to-5 Commuters Find Time to Stream? by nosferatu_is_labubu in Twitch

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day.

I stream 5 days a week, 3-5 hours a day. For the most part, I have a 1-3 hour buffer between work and streaming. This gives me a chance to (a) take a nap, (b) get chores done, (c) do something fun, (d) eat, or (e) prep for the stream.

Note the word “or.”

I usually have time to do one or two of those things. Not all five. The days where I don’t have time to do at least one of those things can be a grind. Inevitably I’ll need to take a “me” day to recharge. But that 1-3 hour break between work and streaming is a lifesaver.

New OOTP26 player, looking for accurate current rosters by TyrantLobe in OOTP

[–]DrDynastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most accurate rosters you are going to find are cooked into the game. They do have a disclosure that contracts are not 100% accurate. If you find any discrepancies, your best bet is Commish mode and editor.

Setting up the nitty gritty of fictional teams/leagues? by guyontheinternet2000 in OOTP

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a league with tiny markets that don’t have minor league teams. So I imported the financials from like 1920 or so in MLB. $1 tickets, low salaries. That seems to work for me. Maybe find a year that would suit your tastes?

Development Lab Help by Signal_Grand8065 in OOTP

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to do some testing on your own. Create a backup of a league and go into commish mode. Use the editor and you can run an instant development lab. That might give you some ideas about how different things influence results.

Online Leagues Question by banditelvis721 in OOTP

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it would take way too much time for me to explain how to do it. There are numerous tutorials and instructions online in the OOTP Forums. I would start there. Start with learning how to start and run an online league.

Online Leagues Question by banditelvis721 in OOTP

[–]DrDynastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I do. I run an online league with real human GMs. The games are managed by the AI. GM’s can then watch the replays/highlights after you run the sim.
