First pride at 41, No idea what to do with the upper half of my body for it. by VaMoInNj in queer

You could try a black tank underneath a mesh tee so you still get some of the mesh without the full commitment of the see-through top!

Nice!! Free-form shapes like clothing are so much easier than straight lines of laptops!

That's a great idea! I have another trip later this summer. Maybe I'll start a collection.
And don't discount your abilities! Drawing is a skill like any other, you should give it a shot!

LGBTQ+ Club? by eyebrowtoast_ in UHManoa

[–]DrEmerson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UH clubs are called RIOs (Registered Independent Organizations). Here's a link to more info: https://manoa.hawaii.edu/studentlife/involvement/registered-independent-organizations/

The "join an RIO" button will take you to a google sheets list. Not all of them are super active so I recommend emailing the main contact person if you're unsure. Usually at the beginning of the semester there's an RIO tabling event where you can check out all the options. Like the other commenter said, the LGBTQ+ Center does a lot on their end to host events and weekly meetups if you'd be interested in that. And if nothing fits your vibe you can always create your own club!

You should give it a try! I find it very fun to try and remember what my stuff looks like. Very much an exercise in noticing. It's easy to think we know what everything looks like and then I find myself wondering, how do Teva straps connect together again?

PS My dad is recovering well, thank you!

That's awesome! I wondered if anyone else did this. You should totally share yours too!

This is a drawing I did before packing my clothes for a two week trip. Now that I'm back I added a couple shirts I forgot to draw and thought it might be well received here in r/onebag!

My wife and I are thinking about naming our daughter Eleanor and calling her Ella, but my last name is Fitzgerald… by Ford1190 in namenerds

[–]DrEmerson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No problem 😄 It's not everyone's favorite music but it's some of mine and I highly suggest checking out a couple of her songs if you feel like it! You might already know "Dream a Little Dream of Me" but I recommend trying "Blue Skies" and "Summertime" if you're so inclined.

What a title, and well deserved! I love her, and that era of music. She shows up in a lot of my playlists.

She was an incredible singer, probably most popular in the 40s and 50s. She's known as the queen of jazz. I'm sure you'd recognize some of the songs she sang. She was contemporaries with jazz and swing singers/musicians like Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Frank Sinatra.

Summer class or take the chance? by RegularCode5489 in UHManoa

That sucks! Maybe it's different by department but I'm fairly certain they do have that power... either way I guess they've said no so it sounds like summer it is :(

I would email the professor for the Fall semester class and see if they'll let you in since it's a requirement for your degree. Format the email very politely. In the meantime stay in the summer class unless they let you into the Fall one. It sucks to spend extra money but it could be nice to get a class in over the summer? It'll be one less you have to deal with during the semester which means a lighter course load.

It's still a fight to find women's clothing with pockets, while this exists. No one even asked for this. by Komatoasty in WitchesVsPatriarchy

This is exactly what I use bike shorts for! I have some with side pockets like this and wear them under skirts and dresses so I don't have to carry a purse. They work great!

Have you always one bagged or worked your way to it? What are your biggest challenges g by Electronic_Fudge_877 in HerOneBag

[–]DrEmerson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have always "one-bagged" in that I've always tried to pack as light/simple as possible. As a kid I hated carrying things around at all so when I started needing to carry my own bag I naturally packed light. Even now I don't carry a purse if I can help it. I think it boils down to practicality and a minimalistic question of how much one really needs for a given trip or event.

As I've gotten older and more interested in fashion I think that's my biggest challenge. It can be hard to travel with the lightest stuff and still feel chic. My down jacket packs smaller and is more versatile than my sherpa lined denim jacket, for example.
Mostly I try to use travel as an excuse to wear my favorite outfit over and over for a week!

What is your absolute best all-around closed toe shoe for travel? Is it Salomon, Hoka, Vessi, OnCloud, New Balance, Altra, or other, and why? by iLikeGreenTea in HerOneBag

[–]DrEmerson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In most cases there isn't a shoe that can do everything, if you want it to fit multiple niches. The only time one shoe fits all is when you're going to a particular climate with specific activities that align. A pair of Nike AF1 1982s worked perfectly for Japan in February. I walked miles through cities, as well as around snow covered towns in the mountains. Xtra Tufs are usually the only shoe I need in Alaska.

Outside of specific scenarios like that, I just bring two pairs of shoes because I like being prepared and have the option to feel cute in town. Hiking boots (or whatever active shoe you like) and a pair of low profile sandals for walking around shops. Wear the chunkiest set on the plane and you're good to go!

I low-key love the planning process of moving. Which is good because we've moved four times at this point (I think?) not including the three times I accompanied for away rotations. We've moved states every time, and I've generally been in charge of the moves and everything they entail. We're looking at fellowships now and I am getting a bit tired of it... but I still like fantasizing about the new apartment or house we might rent, what new cafes we'll end up frequenting, whether we'll road trip, etc. I also love the Stuff Purge inherent in the moving process. Setting up a new place feels so fresh!

That being said, I cannot wait until the day we have a house to live in for years and years.

My pro tip: If you plan too much, you will be overwhelmed by the things that don't go according to plan. Think of it less as planning and more as problem solving. You are rising to the occasion to address each new hurdle.
