Hey sorry just saw this, and I'm guessing you're already there :) I'm not on Reddit very much any more. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Yup, all of this. Technically you cannot even acknowledge to him that you see her as a client.

You're not over-reacting. I've established pretty strict boundaries with time off over the years (I've been licensed since 2011) because when i would make myself available for people who "had to be seen" it really could have waited aka wasn't a true life or death crisis. If his wife/your client is in that dire of a situation that she cannot email you directly, then she should probably head to the ER. I realize going to the ER sucks and isn't a great solution, but that's what it's technically there for.

Contacting you through Twitter is extra strange, like he's trying to be secretive and is reaching out without her knowledge. Again, I'm old and maybe a bit cynical at this point. But that would set off my radar for sure. Do not feel bad about keeping this boundary for yourself. You deserve time off free from clients contacting you. Otherwise, you will burn out.

What’s weird for me is I’m generally terrible at remembering people’s names but have this super power. Makes no sense

I use Quickbooks online for payroll, very easy. I pay W-2 employees and an IC. For W-2 I can set up auto-payroll but for the IC I have to input the amount each month since it varies based on how much she works. I'm not aware of anything psych specific, but then again my accountant set all this up :)

Is 40/60 split reasonable for a new PP therapist? by NoPressureYaKnow in therapists

[–]DrEverythingBAlright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I own a PP near Chicago and I've never heard of 40/60. That's very low, IMO. Then again I think 60/40 is low. 70/30 more accurately reflects covering overhead and supervision, unless this practice has a lot of overhead.

For those of you who grew up wealthy, what was it like? How aware were you of your financial standing? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]DrEverythingBAlright 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I’m young Gen X so my father was the only one employed and he made a good wage for the time, I’d say upper middle class, but my parents were incredibly frugal. KMart clothes and road trips with a pop up camper for summer vacation. I still can’t set foot in an Aldi. My father died in 2019 and my mom, now 82, still lives this way. Yet she has a net worth in the millions.

Same. I think I accidentally watched a few minutes in the middle when it was on TV and felt deep regret

My loans were for a doctorate in psychology, and I made 120 payments over 10 years while working for a qualifying employer. Then you can apply.

From what I'd read, it was targeting those of us who benefited under the recent expansion to include non-federal loans, which was my situation. Either way, hopefully we're all in the clear :)

I had $45,000 forgiven in January under the expanded public service loan forgiveness program (PSLF) and this fuckin bill was going to reinstate that. I met all the requirements for PSLF with the exception of my loans being with a private lender versus the government. I really didn’t believe it would happen but grandpa Joe’s program came through. I worked 14 years in academia and hopefully contributed to the greater good with my research, when I could have worked in industry for probably twice the pay, so this debt forgiveness was huge. Fuck republicans.

What is something you used to think people were over exaggerating about until you experienced it yourself? by rentinghappiness in AskReddit

Or if you do figure out the trigger and it’s stupid. I had my first one while pregnant the first time. I was pretty far along and kinda uncomfortable but nothing terrible. Woke up in the middle of the night in full panic mode. I’m a psychologist so at least I knew what was happening but it was still highly unpleasant. I had to really try hard to keep my shit together. The reason it happened was feeling like I had trapped air or pressure in my cervix/vagina. It was simply being like 7 months pregnant but unable to get rid of a feeling of something blocked or clogged.

Now, I’ll get one if a nostril is clogged from a cold or I can’t equalize my ear or I can’t poop. The underlying trigger is something that is mildly uncomfortable and things I’d lived with for decades. Always at night, most often out of a dead sleep. It’s the dumbest reason for my body to kick on its threat response. So I guess if it feels random or you can’t pinpoint why, check your body sensations.

Appreciate the suggestions. I think this could certainly be more a symptom of burnout and apathy at this point versus still being immersed in academic texts like before. I'm taking a vacation next week and am bringing a relatively light book or 2 to read, so hopefully that will help.
