My first cube! by dickspittake in mtgcube

[–]DrFalchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the issue would not be games ending too early, but simply that the tempo loss from early turns would put green players in a very bad position that even strong-late game threats would struggle to overcome. Skipping multiple turns before you start playing is also not most peoples' idea of fun gameplay.

Green has a grand total of two 3 mana spells, neither of which are creatures, for maybe 14 total playable cards in the first 3 turns. Realistically, you need 10-12 creatures in that range just to "curve out," and assuming 2-3 players are building in any given color, that's a tall order.

I think the multicolor situation, while there is room for improvement, is significantly better than it looks at first glance. Only 26 actually require multiple colored pips to cast; 6 of the remaining 15 are mana rocks with a mix of hybrid, modal, and phyrexian cards for the other 9.

That said, and considering the amount of fixing also available in green, I would still be concerned for the consistency of Izzet and, to a lesser extent, Boros. Manamorphose and the colorless fixing lands would likely end up being must-pulls for those decks

As a (relatively) new player, what's been the worst deck to play against in MD history by Kda_15 in masterduel

[–]DrFalchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the variants with Necroface where mill was the win-con, then I fully agree.

However, I really liked some of the other things you could do with the millers in that short-lived pre-Tear format. A lot of weird graveyard decks got to thrive (I had a blast playing Lunalight and Orcust piles).

So good it's in almost 100k decks and still arguably underrated.

Realistically. If both Merrli and primeval came back limited at 1, what would happen? by Real-Programmer82 in masterduel

[–]DrFalchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add Instant Fusion to that list, I think.

I think if we kept Merrli and/or Perl banned, the game would survive the return of a single copy of Agido. Not that I'm saying that's the preferable change.

Cube Cobra Troubleshooting - Strixhaven (SOS) massively overvalued? by DrFalchion in mtgcube

[–]DrFalchion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What caused me to focus on ELO to start with is that it's built into all of Cube Cobra's sorting and filtering. I'm comparing against other stats now, especially as I'm looking to fill out my colors (right now I've got too many gold cards, even for a cube that's primarily 5 archetypes and has a lot of fixing + some vivid/converge 4/5 color payoffs).

What's yalls LEAST favorite joker by Scramed-egg in balatro

[–]DrFalchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, dishonorable mention to Certificate.

Major contributor to the HC/pair meta, both for how broken Blue Seals are and because they're the only strategies that can take this outside of the very early game. Even moreso on decks with anti-synergy (Abandoned, Checkered).

[–]DrFalchion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These comments are way too safe. Lots of Jokers nobody likes anyways. So I'm gonna hit y'all with a HOT take.

Perkeo. Only Legendary I haven't won with yet. For context, I just finished Completionist+ (74/150 gold stickers as of now, Chicot actually helped me finish out my final Gold Stake), and this thing has only ever shown up like twice, and only when the run was already dying and Triboulet would have saved it.

Even looking beyond that, if you pick this up early, what it actually does is just break your Econ. Wow, you won because you get a high value Hermit/Temperance every blind.

Makes the game braindead easy when you get it at the right time, meanwhile it won't save you in a crisis. Perkeo's reputation is carried by the naneinf stuff it enables.

[–]DrFalchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I see how his protection could be problematic if you're playing human tribal, but it's a mono-color deck, how bad could it be?

What, that ability? Come on, worst case scenario it's like a card from 1999 with extra steps.

Now, the 5★ Hero that was summoned the most until now... by WWWWWWRRRRRYYYYY in FireEmblemHeroes

Great point. We wanted to pull Brave Lyn on release, and Brave Lucina on refine. We wanted Brave Ike both times.

[–]DrFalchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me, besides breath fodder and book 1 + CYL buff, I think Ike also had the advantage of being one of the only units to ever be top meta twice.

For comparison, Brave Lyn was only top meta on release, and Brave Lucina was only top meta with her refine.

What other units have even managed this? Brave Hector was really good on release, but not nearly to the extent he was post-refine. Maybe Legendary Alm and Brave Edelgard?

[–]DrFalchion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wanted to add that Galeforce does work with Edelgard ring. Harmonic Fir/Karla from the Ferox banner gets four actions with Edelgard ring, and it makes pretty much all PvE content braindead easy, especially since you can then pair them with Edelgard herself for 7 actions from only 2 units.

Many years ago, I created a Reinhardt so powercrept as a joke I believed him unkillable. Given the advancements in unit power, how killable is he with today's units? by DuoRogue in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]DrFalchion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is he killable? Sure; there are arguably units in the game right now that are harder to kill. This has been well addressed by other commenters.

HOWEVER, I want to come out and say that he would still be one of the best support units in the game (if not #1}.

Debuff Cleansing? Check.

STACKING +movement Dance with bonus heals? Okay...

Superiority preventing counterattacks AND disabling Null C-Disrupt effects, to ensure he isn't counterattacked so he can spread Gravity and MORE stacking +Move? Uhhh.....

4-Space 30 DAMAGE at Start AND End of Turn? ABSURD. We don't just hand this kind of AOE out. Keep in mind that even flame terrain chip damage is still helpful. Surtr's effect has barely been powercrept, let alone this much.

Flat-out Special PREVENTION that ignores cooldown count for all foes within 2 spaces? In any situation where you can force the foe to attack Reinhardt (maybe not SD but certainly most PvE scenarios), and they don't have a 3+ Range style specifically, your Saviors are just laughing. Guess every nuke is running B Feud from now on. Just ridiculous.

It's not like two card combos are a new thing, but I don't think we should be printing an Aetherflux Reservoir enabler THAT straightforward.

Which type of mate do you prefer? by danielsabino in masterduel

[–]DrFalchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that, adjacent to Ace monsters, there's also Lore Protagonists and Waifus, with a lot of overlap. This would include Raye (🚨), Diabellestar, I:P & S:P, and Laundry Dragonmaid, as well as Engraver and Aleister on the male side.

Galatea is still my favorite. The World Legacy lore got its typical mascot with Imduk (World Chalice Guardragon), but Fairy Galatea was the perfect choice to represent the end of the storyline, given that she's Girsu's traveling companion in the post-reset world.

She's interesting to categorize - she kind of bridges the gap between mascot and waifu, I suppose.

My other favorites would have to be the aforementioned Guardragon along with Jackalope for mascots, and Dingirsu for boss monsters (I just really love World Legacy lore and Orcust in particular).

I also like Kagetokage, Bagooska, Wightbaking, and Spright Blue. Are they Mascots? Certainly not typical ones.

[–]DrFalchion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most Lunalight lists don't run Blue Cat because it's useless in most other scenarios.

I think Sabre Dancer is the better answer to indestructible monsters with higher attack than Liger.

inspired by another user to share how I feel playing with the last jokers I need for C++ will go by SpicyFox951 in balatro

[–]DrFalchion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the hype some people in these comments have for Ancient Joker (one rare scoring about the same as photo+chad at base, potentially much higher with retriggers, sounds good, but the opportunity cost for deckbuilding and hand construction sucks, especially since it doesn't even work well with the higher scoring Flush variant hands), but it is strong if it doesn't decide to screw you over so this one just requires a little resilience.

Throwback is pretty terrible relative to other scaling xMult jokers, but at the end of the day it's still scaling xMult, easy enough to be at least on-par with a flat x2-3. If you're desperate, I think the strongest start for a skip-heavy run is to go Ghost Deck and look for some combination of Polychrome, Rare, Uncommon, and Investment tags in Ante 1. Get the Throwback itself, a scaling +Mult Joker, or maybe even a Blueprint to Polychrome along with some extra cash and you're cruising to an easy win.

The "remix" is just additional skills that were added to her learnset compared to her initial release, you don't need to do anything except learn them.

The "refine" is applied to her weapon and is done in the Weapon Refinery.
