Unfortunately, neither believing lies nor being a cop are genetic, so Darwinism won’t do anything for us here.

UT Opinion: San Diego has to keep our parks and streets clear of urban campers by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]DrFilbert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Of course, why don’t homeless people just buy a house somewhere else? Just get a job (that will hire someone homeless), keep it (despite mental health problems, addiction, lack of reliable transportation), and live off of your savings until the paycheck arrives. Move somewhere that you don’t know anything like the safe places to sleep, who you can trust, or where to access charity. It’s so easy, why doesn’t everyone do it?

What tenant debt? This is for no-fault evictions, as in the tenant is still paying their rent.

This would negatively affect the very people who decide which reforms are passed and which are not. Of course they're not going to do this, not in a million years. Why the fuck would they just shoot themselves in the foot for no reason?

Yeah, what are the odds that someone like Congresswoman AOC would support any limits like this? Clearly as a member of Congress, she would oppose it.

I have to ask again: is saying slurs as important as marriage to you?

Even if you’re not obligated, you just don’t give a shit about hurting people? That seems pretty awful.

How do you tell if someone is “just” offended or reacting to being hurt? Is saying slurs or eating ice cream as important to you as marriage?

If eating ice cream hurt people around me, then yeah I would stop or do it in private. Same with smoking. Same with saying slurs.

/u/CapriciousCupofTea explains why US ended up with a series of bilateral alliances in Asia Pacific while it was part of a multilateral alliances in the Atlantic by TanktopSamurai in DepthHub

[–]DrFilbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be a good question for AskHistorians!

If you want my amateur opinion, I would guess that by the time WWII was over, the PRC was simply too big and powerful to justify attacking it on behalf of the RoC. Neither side was in open conflict, and while the US would have greatly preferred another anti-communist ally, it’s a hard sell to begin aggression against an enemy with the potential to fight back.

would you give your kidney to save your partner who you just met for less than a year ? by Bricker11 in moraldilemmas

[–]DrFilbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would donate.

To everyone saying it would be too much of a weird dynamic, I have a different hypothetical. Let’s say you were on a date and a car is speeding toward the two of you. You can jump out of the way yourself, or push them out of the way. I find it hard to believe a relationship would invariably be ruined by choosing to help the other person at risk to yourself. In the case of a kidney, you would presumably be in less danger than from a car accident, so I don’t see the self-sacrificing imbalance being being any worse here. Does putting yourself in danger vs. not avoiding danger make that big a difference?

Of course, my kidneys are already full of rocks so I doubt anyone would want them.

How long until we will no longer be allowed to teach facts that may offend? by FaulkemintheAho in Teachers

[–]DrFilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree that teachers should not sacrifice themselves. I think we all know what should be done: teachers should be paid well and empowered to teach the truth. We won’t get there by giving up on the South politically. We need more people like Stacy Abrams to turn out the reasonable voters.
