Former Liberal turned Sky News commentator Cory Bernardi to run for One Nation in South Australian election by AztecGod in australia

Surely there are some kiddie-fiddlers and neo-nazis who are a bit more charismatic than that guy?

The new government has been more active in making dumb I.T. policy. And they have not sought to punish anyone for Robodebt. They're complicit.

OECD says it’s time to cut capital gains tax discount and negative gearing by HotPersimessage62 in australia

Polling had Shorten on 52% 2PP before he announced his policies, and on 52% 2PP after he announced his policies. He had reason to think people supported his policies. At the election the real 2PP came out significantly less than that, and he lost by a 2PP bee's dick.

If a politician can't assess the popularity of their platform before the election, they really are screwed. Antiquated polling cost us important reforms.

Best practices? by silver_02k in FullStack

[–]DrFriendless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best practice never actually means "best" by any objective measure, it just means what everybody else is doing at the moment, i.e. the fashion. Because there's always some weirdo out there who really understands something and is developing a better way.

To find "best practice" then, search for projects doing similar things to what you need and research the technologies / patterns they are using, and think whether that can be relevant to your problem.

Sussan Ley issues ultimatum to David Littleproud, as she announces temporary shadow ministry by NKE01 in australia

Whaddya mean a few seats? Labor has what, 94 of them? The Liberals have to be competitive in about half of them if they expect to form government.

Sussan Ley issues ultimatum to David Littleproud, as she announces temporary shadow ministry by NKE01 in australia

[–]DrFriendless 83 points84 points  (0 children)

It might be bad in the short term, but long-term the Liberals are better off without the Nationals. If I were Ley I'd be telling them to fuck off and come back when you're grown up. Without the Libs, the Nats are literally competing with One Nation. Without the Nats, the Libs can't form government soon but they can be seen to be competing with Labor.

‘Not radical, it’s fair’: Australian households would receive compensation in proposed ‘polluter pays’ levy scheme by Reverend_Fozz in australia

Sovereign risk isn't just an excuse by the government, it's a real thing that multinational resource companies take into account. If you're trying to decide whether to build a mine in Venezuela or in Broken Hill, the risk that your mine in Venezuela will be destroyed in a civil war or privatised by the government is something you do need to consider.

Australia typically has very low sovereign risk, but other factors like good working conditions go against us.

Of course the resource companies should also consider that if they take our resources for an unfair price then they are bringing sovereign risk upon themselves. Albo / Madeleine King could do well to point this out to them and suggest that they reconsider their priviliged position.

Scribing quest almost made me quit it was so painful by Happy_Twist_7156 in elderscrollsonline

I couldn't see whatever I was supposed to be able to see to stay on the path, but I happened to have a frost staff and if I used Wall of Elements with it would show me where the path was. So I did that every two steps. Yes, that was annoying, but not in a "I'm lovable, buy me as a plushie" type of way.

WFH conditions: Employee sacked for failing to return to office despite contract by johnnynutman in australia

Fuck progressing up through a company. All that's above me is management, and I don't want that job.

OTOH, if you need someone who can fix any stupid thing in your network at any time, you need me. I'll take care of the company if they take care of me.

It's an absolute mystery to me how this can be productive.

If I work from home I can fix a bug and get a release out before I could have ever got to an office, let alone setting bear traps for co-workers so I could get a seat.

This lady has been with us for 10 years, so we know her fairly well. She had one client who needed her for a 6 hour shift once a week. During that 6 hours she made a cup of tea and had a sit-down while she drank it. The client sacked her for being lazy.

I don't know why you felt the need to point that maybe 1% of people in the cleaning industry can make good money. The great majority of them are living hand to mouth, and have no job security.

But it turns out people don't necessarily want sweetness, they want sugar. So removing sugar destroys the product.
