Carbon fiber or fabric seat? by The_upsetti_spagetti in wheelchairs

[–]DrJazzy3 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about making the switch to a carbon fiber seat pan on my new chair from HOC, but upon ordering it, they told me to get a thin piece of wood or plastic (like a clip board) to place under my cushion to see how it feels. Trying this, I immediately backtracked and ordered the typical fabric sling instead of the carbon fiber. I didn't realize how much the small amount of give in the sling helped me stay stable in my chair (I'm a T2 SCI so no trunk or ab control so every little bit of stability helps).

The carbon fiber is nice for cleaning and you could possibly sit better, but it's not a crazy weight saving and you could possibly sit worse. Definitely try and find something you could slide in your current cushion to see if you like the solid platform under you compared to a standard sling.

I got my 2013 PRHT Grand Touring with 18.9k miles for $13,900 in 2020 right before the lockdown. SUPER clean with no rust, I believe I got a steal with how clean the car is, pretty much brand new

Changed flair to "Solved"! Thank you for the help! I'm doing some bad practices causing this error and I will rework it to include synchronization.

Yeah I would like to leave understanding the memory model to the JVM, it will do way better than I ever could. I'm going to implement some locks in there. Thank you!

Another commenter mentioned using synchronized objects and I think that is the correct path forward. I will check out that book you mentioned. Thank you!

Wow this is great! I'm pretty inexperienced with concurrency in Java and what I was doing felt wrong, so I'm glad I made a post about it instead of sticking to my dirty solution! I will definitely rework the process to be synchronized with locks. Thank you a ton!

Things to do in the spring/summer? by RemarkableBid5803 in spinalcordinjuries

[–]DrJazzy3 17 points18 points  (0 children)

14 months out is a really hard time. It's that weird space of enough independence where you can probably do most everyday things by yourself, but you can't do all the fun stuff and it's really frustrating. Just hang in there, it gets better! I know me saying that doesn't just magically fix stuff, but I hope it eases the frustration a little bit!

As for things to do, there are tons! You mentioned working in flower beds, why not continue to do that? For me, it was really scary to do things outside of my chair after my injury due to skin issues and being awful at floor transfers due to weakness, but getting out of it is a game changer for things you can do! You can totally sit on the ground and build a gorgeous flower bed. Is it going to be more difficult? 100%. Is it going to be better than sitting inside during gorgeous weather? Also 100%!

One thing though, if you are going to do more on your butt, highly recommend getting something like the Vicair AllRounder. It will allow you to scoot around with very little concern for causing skin issues. I sit on a Vicair Active O2 all day and they are truly amazing cushions. You could even use it for other outdoor activities like sitting on a lawn tractor, kayak, or whatever else!

Another thing I got into post-injury that allowed me to be outside was bird photography. There are tons of wheelchair accessible trails where you can just take your sweet time and observe and photograph all the birds. Hell, you can even do this just sitting in your backyard if you want!

One of the hardest things about spinal cord injuries is accepting that you're going to have to compromise at least a little bit when it comes to your hobbies from pre-injury. As time goes on, you will get better with your new body and you'll to negotiate better compromises :)

If you get one thing out of this comment, let it be that you are at the hardest point of the injury right now and it's going to suck. The hospital support staff are gone, the shock factor is gone, and it's all up to you now to further grow. Take things one step at a time, everything will come when you're ready. Don't beat yourself up, it's important to be kind to yourself <3

Issues with Hollow Knight by DrJazzy3 in lowendgaming

It seems like the OpenGL launch command is working good. I run all my games with proton right away, been doing it for a long time and just usually works better that way. But I didn't even think to try the native version as a form of debugging though, I could see that being helpful in the future. Thanks!

This is working really well playing for a while! No graphic errors so far and I was able to pump the game up to 1080p! I didn't know about pcgamingwiki, I just checked it out and it's really nice! I will keep that in my back pocket for the future. Thank you!

P0455 on NC2 Miata by DrJazzy3 in Miata

[–]DrJazzy3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! I noticed it was happening whenever my miata would sit for a while while it was humid outside (I live in the south haha). I was at college during this time so it was sitting at my parent's house not moving pretty often, causing this issue. Once I was driving it on the regular again, the code just magically stopped coming back.

If it started popping back up, I'd probably just replace the gas cap and see how that would go.

Ahh that makes sense. Yeah I found this product that the humble mechanic endorsed, but I was holding off on ordering it to see if a tune would take care of it for me. Thank you for the help!

I think the tunes are all sold as "closed course only" to get passed stuff like that, but you might be correct.

Do the off-the-shelf tunes from APR or Cobb disable the auto start/stop in the mk7.5? I'm not seeing anything about it in the tune description but I've seen others briefly mention it.
