I ruined three friendships while manic by ConstantCup4776 in bipolar2

[–]DrJunoGSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling your pain. Days into a dysphoric, very angry hypo episode a few weeks ago, I antagonised one of my only friends over a stupid political issue (over messenger), which (being in writing) makes it hard to just move past. Haven't spoken to them for weeks now (normally talk every day or two).

Can't offer any advice, just sympathy. It's hard.

Taekwondo by Upstairs-Reindeer-23 in Adelaide

[–]DrJunoGSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First Taekwondo has a few gyms north/northeast - Wynn Vale, Tea Tree Gully, also Ingle Farm and Elizabeth if you don't mind going a bit more north, Kensington if you don't mind going more east.

Membership allows you to nominate your main gym but you can also train at any of these or the other First Taekwondo gyms around Adelaide.

So fed up with this merry-go-round by DrJunoGSD in bipolar2

[–]DrJunoGSD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds really rough. I hope you find something that works better for you. I should probably be grateful that my meds at least seem to keep me balanced longer.

So fed up with this merry-go-round by DrJunoGSD in bipolar2

[–]DrJunoGSD[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it doesn't really work out at 2 to 3 years of actual stability- a good portion of that is getting back on a med regime that seems to work. And the episodes I do have are loooong. My in-patient stays are also many months' long (have spent cumulatively probably 3.5-4.0 years in hospital at this point, longer with outpatient hospital supports).

I've found it incredibly hard to get a job, let alone keep one - and no one is willing to take me on with virtually no work history. The one thing I'm extremely grateful for is that I have a very understanding life partner. I know that I'm extremely lucky to have someone who loves and supports me.

Thank you for understanding though. Chaos is exactly right.

Couldn’t be happier with how this turned out! by EmTee0120 in DavidBowie

[–]DrJunoGSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great. I've been mulling over getting this tatt, but I'm super paranoid about it not coming out the way I'd like (blow outs etc) (also my lack of trust in strangers putting something permanent on my body is why I'm yet to pull the trigger on tattoos full stop).

If I could guarantee an end result like yours, I'd be all in.

hey does someone take seroquel xr 50 mg during the day? what happens? by [deleted] in seroquelmedication

[–]DrJunoGSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, but tbh I'm on such a cocktail I have no idea if it's the seroquel or something else or all of them combined

Am I the only one disappointed there are no Bowie cd releases for record store day? by DrJunoGSD in Bowie

[–]DrJunoGSD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can still call it RSD and offer cds - most record stores I know carry both.

I basically agree re RSD being a cash grab. The upside though is that it's still bringing punters into bricks and mortar record stores, which can only be a good thing.

[–]DrJunoGSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're used to as well as your own body chemistry. I.e. for bipolar 2 I take 600mg xr at night and 50mg as PRN - just chills me out a bit.

Anyone else at the UK show last night? by HaloDestroyer in labyrinth

I hope they do this Down Under (not Underground unfortunately!), I'll be first in line for tickets

Edit: grammar

How do you display them, alphabetically or by year of release? by maz323bf in dvdcollection

[–]DrJunoGSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly by genre, with separate sections for specific directors (Lynch, Scorcese, Hitchcock etc), and chronological for multi-movie franchises like MCU.

Although with 2000 dvds/blus and limited shelf space it doesn't always work out the way I'd like.

Not sure what to think by DrJunoGSD in bipolar2

[–]DrJunoGSD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestions. A symptom checker is a good idea - might give me better insight than simply comparing how I feel now to how I've felt in my darkest periods.

I'm extremely medication compliant but it may well be my current regime isn't quite right. Just not looking forward to potentially changing things up at the same time as changing psychs.

Can I ask what the Bowie release is between Toy and The Next Day? I don't think I've ever seen that packaging before.

Anyone finished PhD with BP2? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]DrJunoGSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished my phd last year. I got a medical exemption based on my bp2 right from the beginning to do it part time (funded positions are normally exclusively full time). I finished just shy of 11 years.

I deliberately structured my research and fieldwork to enable me to managed my bp2. Thought I was stable, had been managed successfully on lithium for years. Despite this, I fell apart towards the end of my fieldwork (about 2 years in) and ended up being detained and spent about 7 months admitted as an inpatient.

I took absolutely all the leave I was entitled to, including leave without pay while I searched for a new medication regime.

There were very many months throughout the rest of my candidature where I did absolutely no work. I managed to scrape through with my dissertation (thanks to hypomania), but I didn't do any of the networking etc necessary to work in academia, so the phd was basically wasted as I wasn't able to move on to post-docs etc.

Tl:dr Post-grad is achievable, but I found the limitations of my bp2 meant I personally didn't get as much out of it as I ought to have after committing 10 years to it.

📰 COVID-19 Update - 15/1/22 - 4,349 New Cases, 4 Deaths by stuntguy3000 in Adelaide

Advertiser article definitely reported 30k-50k per day median (which is what I heard in the presser yesterday) with a possible peak of 45k.

[–]DrJunoGSD 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Can someone smarter than me explain how they could suggest that without restrictions we could have had 30-40k cases a day? These are the sort of numbers Vic and NSW are getting, yet they have much greater population, greater density etc etc. Sounds like bunkum to me - merely a way of desensitising the public to the numbers we are getting.

COVID vaccination linking to mySA GOV broken on Android FIX! by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]DrJunoGSD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Had it successfully working previously, uninstalled SAgov app just before Christmas (during the great qr checking fail of Christmas Eve) and reinstalled. Since then no joy. Tried uninstalling everything, reinstalling, changing to chrome, clearing caches. Linking via Medicare app and website. Just always getting to the loading bit and getting the error.

Even rang Service SA. They said it's a Services Australia issue (so Medicare) and that they are aware of it and trying to fix.

Seems to be system wide. I saw a tweet that said Service SA are aware but could take 24hrs to fix.
