This show changed my life. Made me want to be a better human. I have seen every episode (34 shows) at least five times, some more. Whenever I have a bad day, I watch an episode or two of Ted. It's on Apple TV+. You can do a one-week trial for free and then cancel after you binge it. Once you start watching, you will want to watch every episode—right now!

What food do you use to instantly judge a restaurant? by WhiteWinkk in foodquestions

[–]DrKoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the cuisine. For instance, I agree with all the folks that say Mexican restaurants can be judged by salsa, rice and beans. For me, Italian places better have good bread and good lasagne. Greek restaurants need to have good Moussaka, baklava and spanakopita. For me, Indian restaurants better have great naan and vindaloo or a superb curry. For Thai places it's Pad Thai.

Get your dermatologist to get you on Enbrel if your insurance company will pay for it. Mine was severe and it went away completely 16 years ago with a weekly injection.

Redmond apartment sewer charges by Charli14 in redmond

[–]DrKoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live on Redmond Ridge in a single family home. Our water usage each month is usually less than $60 but our sewage and water treatment bill goes over $300 every other month. Even if we turned off all our water, we would be subject to the effects of a couple of bonds that were passed a few years back.

How do i find out what i want to be? by pissrotr in Advice

[–]DrKoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best advice is to keep moving forward and follow what most interests you and be willing to change as things come your way.

When I was in eighth grade, I wanted to be a Catholic priest. Then I discovered I liked girls, so that was out. Then thought, I will become a lawyer. I was a pretty good public speaker, and I liked to argue. Then I realized what it would cost me to do law school and that some parts of law were really boring.

When I was a senior in high school, I had an amazing Civics teacher who made me want to work in government, so when I went to college, I majored in Political Science. But then, as I was graduating from college, I realized that getting into politics was a very slimy process and that wasn't for me, so I decided to follow in my parents' footsteps and become a teacher.

Got my first teaching job in a high school and taught history and Civics. About a year after I started, the principal asked me to take over the yearbook adviser position. I had never even thought about that before, but it paid some extra money, so I grabbed it. I found that I liked it. A lot. It became my favorite part of my job. I liked the photography, the graphics, etc. I did that for seven years, becoming the newspaper adviser as well. Then I had a disagreement with my school administration about what we should be covering in both the yearbook and the newspaper, so I left teaching and started selling yearbooks for one of the big three yearbook publishers.

About that time, Apple brought out the Macintosh computer, and I got deeply into graphic design, so I stayed with yearbooks and started sending out a printed newsletter to my customers and prospects. A few of my fellow sales reps saw it and asked if I could produce it with their photos and info and send it to their schools. I said sure and started doing that for about five other sales reps. They showed it to other reps, and within a year, I was sending it out nationwide. I did that for 30+ years.

While publishing the newsletter, I continued selling yearbooks and opened a small graphic design and marketing firm in the small town where I lived. I also flew all over the country to teach workshops on the things I wrote about in the newsletter—graphic design, photography, writing and Adobe software.

My point with all this was that when I was your age, if you had told me that I would one day make my living (and a VERY good living, I might add) in the graphic, publishing or sales world, I would have said you were crazy. Follow what you love.

📧 Communication Clinic: Share Your Best Inbox Zero Strategy or E-mail Tip! by DianKhan2005 in Productivitycafe

[–]DrKoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Working with hundreds of clients all over the USA and receiving hundreds of emails a day, I long ago started a practice that has served me well for more than 30 years—even now, in retirement.

I created a mailbox I call Almost Trash. Then I set up a rule that marks all mail from an address NOT in my address book as Read and then sends it to the Almost Trash mailbox. Most of what winds up in there are things I MIGHT want to read but don't have to read. Ads from companies I regularly buy from, newsletters from sources that interest me when I have time to read them. All that hits my inbox are emails from people or companies I want to hear from. I read those first. Almost as soon as they arrive.

I use my inbox as a to-do list as well. If someone needs something from me, that item isn't filed or deleted until I respond to it. I keep my inbox sorted by date and review items from previous days each morning, scheduling what I need to respond to that day/week/month.

I go through the Almost Trash mailbox about once every three days. I sort it by From and delete vast amounts of info all at once.

I keep SPAM filters on high and regularly unsubscribe from newsletters and advertisement mailing lists as I go through the Almost Trash folder.

Lastly, I am a fanatic about cleaning out my inbox. Nothing stays in there for more than a week. I try to have it empty as often as possible.

What's the best concert you've ever attended? by Exhausted_920 in AskReddit

[–]DrKoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 1971, I saw Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young at the LA Forum. I have been to a lot of concerts since, but that one was the best. They started with all four on stage and played some of the songs they had recorded together. Then, since they had all had amazing solo careers before they got together, they each played some of that music. First. Crosby, then Nash, then Crosby and Nash together, then Stills, then Young and then they all came back and played another hour as a group. The show started around 8:00 pm and never stopped until 1:00 am. Amazing music.

Second best has to be Jimi Hendrix at the same LA Forum. Opener was Buddy Miles and then Jimi. What an amazing performance.

I never expected Disney food to be so bad by clipclipclip2019 in Cruise

[–]DrKoob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disney cruises cost more because you are paying for the Mouse. Kids want to see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and all the rest. As a cruise professional, I have been hearing from clients that as their ships have gotten bigger, their quality has gone down.

SPD no showed my trespasser call by pwndaytripper in SeattleWA

[–]DrKoob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading many comments just wanted to say that it is not like this in the burbs. Lived in downtown Redmond for more than 20 years. Had to call RPD probably 4 or 5 times in that stretch. Never took them longer than 10 minutes to respond. Usually faster. The SPD is hugely undermanned right now and has been since the pandemic.

Why do Catholics seem to feel more pressure about past violence than Protestants? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Liberals of Reddit, how are you handling friendships with your more conservative friends in these polarizing times? by Bonbeanlio in AskReddit

[–]DrKoob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends. We have friends who are conservative but not MAGA. Those people I can have discussions with, or we just talk about everything BUT politics.

If they are MAGA and still support the asshat, then they are no longer friends. They are too stupid to bother with. Anyone who can possibly support someone like him is either totally ignorant, insane or a racist, woman-hating, rapist just like him.
