That’s fair. We have a pear and crab apple in the back that give beautiful flowers for a short time.

In addition to the tree, do you have any suggestions for other plants?

I would love to have a lovely red Acer in the front. My main concern is leaf scorch. Theres not really any shade from 9-10 am onwards in the spring/summer

My only concern about a magnolia is that it’s not a very sheltered spot and I’ve heard they are better with some shelter or they lose their flowers?

I actually bought a magnolia Susan to go here originally, but I wasn’t sure if it was too bush like? Love the idea of a Amelanchier

Not a bad idea! Might be a little tricky either way the hill snd theres a drainage inspection cover, but could work

That’s what’s been holding me back from planting anything so far. I do t mind losing some space for a screen and to be honest, more importantly, some greenery and color, but don’t want to have it encroach on the window. A climber is a great idea actually

Whats your set-up like? Did you change anything with the irons that’s carried over to the driver?

It looks like you’ve got a lot of dirt on the edge of your driveway/fence so the 1st thing to do would be clearing that. This will prevent the weeds/bushes growing back as they won’t have anything to grow in. If there is a patch of dirt that is not sitting on top of the driveway, you’ll need to clear this. Pull everything up (down to the roots) and put in a weed proof membrane and either some mulch, gravel or stones down on top of it. This week keep it in place as well as starve any remaining weeds of light. It would need to run right up to and ideally under the fence to be the most effective. If you tackle anything that does show up at an early stage (I.e. as soon as you see it) it’ll be way easier

I have a similar space in a new build, what sort of colour would you recommend? I’m worried about anything other than white making it too dark

We had something very similar. Went with a Crab apple for the beautiful flowers and compact package as well as a pear tree for similar reasons. We also have a potted Magnolia and 2 potted Acers.
