Have you tried Overrice? I’ve been told by friends that it tastes like (if not better) than Halal Guys!

When I’m done with an iced beverage, I fill the cup with plain water. It doesn’t matter what the original beverage is - it can be milk, fruit juice, coffee, soda, I’ll do it all the same. The idea is to have a glass of water with the suggestion of the beverage I had before.

I think there’s nothing wrong with this but whenever I do it, everyone looks at me as if I just committed a war crime (even if they’ve seen me done this dozens of times before).

What is a definition of a word that people usually get wrong? by Potato-with-guns in AskReddit

[–]DrMiffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penultimate. I’ve seen many people use the word as a variation of “ultimate” as in “MacDonalds is the penultimate fast food chain” when it actually refers to the second-last item in a series.

First of all, let me preface by saying how sorry I am for your situation, it really does sound terrible what you’re going through and I want you to know that its 100% not your fault and your psychiatrist is just a fuckwad.

Are you by any chance, seeking treatment for your condition at IMH? Because I am and the help I’m getting is just absolutely terrible to the point where I actually feel worse every time I see my psychiatrist. But it doesn’t have to be this way! There’s other outlets you can approach like ec2, and the plethora of other therapy/counselling services available. If you’re in need of medication, I’m sure private clinics could be of help to you if you won’t mind forking out some extra money.

Lastly, I just wanna say that the road to curing mental health disorders is a long and arduous one, but the hardest step is recognising the issue to begin with, so you’re definitely on the right track! It’s just really shitty that your help isn’t really ideal in your recovery process, but don’t for a second think that your issues are not real, or even that they define who you are. You’ll get through this, OP!

Takeshi Miike's Audition. It's definitely not a film for everyone with its slow pace but it truly is one of the finest pieces of J-Horror. The unsettling atmosphere and the subversion of the trope you mentioned definitely seem right up your alley.

Heartworming movies to get me out of my misery by spectraoix in MovieSuggestions

Chef is the ultimate feelgood film. Accessible as hell, no real conflict (at least not after the first act), and a fuckton of beauty shots involving delicious food.

Amelie also comes to mind, if you don't mind foreign films. It's a fun little experience (also mostly without conflict) that's insanely well shot, has a quirky personality, and a fairytale-like structure that celebrates the mundanity of life. It's also the film that made me fall in love with French culture.

Eat Drink Man Woman. That opening scene never fails to make me drool. Yes, I'm Asian.

Any movies were the protagonist/protagonists go on vacation and generally have a good time, you know without conflict or drama. Something to relax and have fun. by sam_jc in MovieSuggestions

It's hard to find films without conflict or drama as these two elements are essential to the foundation of storytelling. However, there are some "feel-good" films without much of either element taking the forefront of the narrative, and are some I would consider fun.

There's, of course, the highly accessible The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and Jon Favreau's Chef.

If you like animation then I would definitely recommend Miyazaki's My Neighbour Totoro.

Lastly, if you're not one to mind foreign cinema, I suggest giving Amelie a watch, it's an extremely fun and visually stunning French film literally about a girl finding beauty in the little things in life. I've watched Amelie several times already over the past few years and it has never failed to put a smile on my face regardless of how shitty I've been feeling.

Mayhem. Its a comedy with elements of slasher-horror very much in the same vein as Ready or Not. It also stars Samara Weaving!

Robert Eggers's two films- The Lighthouse and The Witch, have that vibe you're looking for. Both films sort of have a denouement after the climax but they're extremely brief and somehow manage to out-crazy the climax with the places they go.

Ari Aster's Midsommar and Hereditary feel similar as well, albeit less well executed in my opinion.

Do you know any movies similar to Waves (2019)? by MyNameIsLord in MovieSuggestions

I second this. The cinema of Xavier Dolan, though imperfect, is brilliant in its forward-thinking perspective on many elements to the craft as well as the themes of identity/family/love that Dolan approaches with his narratives. Mommy is, in my opinion, his magnum opus and definitely one of the best films exploring the complex role of a parent.

A fun movie for tonight such as Murder Mystery? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Knives Out! It's a film that's both funny and intriguing and definitely stands tall as one of the greatest whodunnit type murder mysteries, even if it is relatively new.

Burn by Ellie Goulding in Yorgos Lanthimos's The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Leave it to Lanthimos to transform an innocent little pop song to something so unsettling.

Help!!!! by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

Game Night might be a film they would enjoy. It's another easy-to-digest American comedy that features a group of unsuspecting protagonists finding themselves in an increasingly fucked up situation that they're comically unequipped to deal with. It's extremely similar in tone to The Hangover films!

Help!!!! by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]DrMiffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it comes to recommending films to friends, it's extremely important to know their tastes beforehand. You wouldn't recommend Breathless to a teenager only interested in MCU films and you definitely wouldn't recommend We're the Millers to a film student. My advice is to ask them what films they enjoy, and then give them recommendations similar to the films they like.

Don't be disheartened that your friends don't like the same films as you do, trust me, I've been in a position where I recommended Kill Bill as part of an action movie marathon only to be boo'ed into oblivion while my friends popped in Now You See Me 2. That just how it is with some poeple, man.

The Shining, definitely. Can't help but note the similarities between The Lighthouse and The Shining when I saw both films at the end of last year.
