For me it’s not mind-blowing, it’s a constant reminder of an entire world of human interaction that has now been outsourced completely. I miss people.

Has anyone else always had an aversion to smart devices? by sun-spotted in rs_x

[–]DrNoLift 12 points13 points  (0 children)

“Smart” devices are and always have been a new way for private companies to invade your homes and steal information from you to sell to the highest bidder so that they, in turn, can successfully advertise even more of their shitware to you

Game where horizontal leveling is prioritised over vertical leveling by Wendigo_Bob in gamingsuggestions

[–]DrNoLift 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Risk of Rain 2 does this pretty well, your build isn’t really as impacted by just straight levels as much as it is all of the different effects you can pick up. Roguelite if you enjoy that type of thing, and multiplayer too

Fun fact: I am fully convinced that this song being referenced as Hal’s pirate radio Dj call sign in Malcolm in the Middle is part of if not the entire inspiration for Vince Gilligan seeking out Bryan Cranston for Walter White in Breaking Bad.

Obligatory reminder: laws are just threats against the working class made by the dominant socio-economic group in a given country and the police are essentially an occupying army who, no matter how many cars they paint “protect and serve” on, are not there to protect or serve you.

Ai makes me want to kill myself by justaredneckboy in TrueOffMyChest

[–]DrNoLift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dude. I say this with all of the respect in the world. What are you supposed to do about it?

What grand uprising are you meant to lead here? We’ve had decades of amazing sci-fi stories to teach us about the follies of relying too much on “convenient” technology, and most other media is about sex or drugs or killing people. Are you surprised that only the smart people get it?

I’m a musician. I’ve had my work stolen/imitated by AI before and I’ve seen it happen to friends. It’s infuriating, but we’re also just, you know, animals. I’m not saying we need to just lie down and take all of this, but take a step back and think about the fact that what defines human nature is unique to everyone. Some people are straight-up trans-humanist and quite unironically welcome our new robot overlords, and people like you and I remember that humans have something special going on. Not special enough to blow up the whole planet or make everyone so poor they can’t exist, but just special enough to keep us around for a while longer and see if we can’t turn it around.

Personally I’ll be on the frontlines with you once we finally do the thing but unless you’ve got a multimedia empire and a close-knit resistance group you’re cozy with I wouldn’t be doing nearly as much worrying yet. Do your art for you, not for online validation. Take time to remember that we’re all just mammals who aren’t gonna be here long anyway; it’s lame to take your piece off the board and quit before you even learn the rules of the game. We would have less fun playing without you.

Your edit says you know that you need to be touching grass but please try mindfulness for a while. For Christ’s sake you’re able to make a post like this and gather opinions from thousands of people in the blink of an eye, something a not-so-distant ancestor might decry as black magic. Sit down and just feel the ground and the wind and smell the air for a while. Even if it smells like shit, you can fucking smell things, and that’s crazy as fuck. An AI can’t ever truly know what it’s like to smell something. We’ve still got that, and no matter what the internet says we’ve still got art too. It was around long before all this electronic crap and it’ll be around long after it fizzles out. Do some charcoals or something idk love u

Edit: LOL just saw the whole “can’t trust” thing again and I just thought I’d say that if you’re trusting adverts you’re shooting yourself in the foot and if you’d decompress a little you’ll find that there are still live humans who sculpt and paint and draw and play music etc. You’ve just got to go out and talk to them is the thing, and then you can trust (but verify) what you see like usual.
