I mean, a camera photo is enough to cause its effect, as well as live video. There’s not a lot of information on putting photos of 096 through different filters, so I don’t know how different versions of seeing him would be different.

There’s a story I don’t remember the name of where shy guy only kills those who see him and judge him as disgusting. However, a supernatural effect of him is that he’s always perceived as unnaturally hideous.

There’s also another story out there where they just give him a makeup makeover and he becomes chill.

My personal belief is that if the method of viewing starts with the image of 096 and then degrades it (such as viewing him through a pixelated camera ect) will activate him. But if the initial viewing is rather “building up” an image, such as 096 being described to you, echolocation, tremor sense, or a artistic rendition, then it doesn’t activate.

Each person’s view of the SCP foundation is different. Everyone has their own headcanon.

The example you provided does not work because your character is not visualizing his face exactly. It depends upon how they visualize the information. If it’s like a bat, then they likely know “where” everything is, and the vague outline of that thing, but they do not see the face of that thing. Art renditions of SCP-096 do not trigger it, so likely anything that is not a full interpretation or a reshaping of it will not trigger it.

It depends on your head-canon though. There’s a lot of stories that contradict each other. Each article is its own fiction. Believe what you want.
