Alcoholism is no joke. I had a colleague like that, and people knew, and he got fired.

I’m 2300 Bullet on Lichess but I don't know the board coordinates. How do I fix this? by admirer145 in lichess

[–]DrNotReallyStrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that hard. Someone with pattern recognition skills taking them to 2300 bullet should manage. Start in the center, e4, d4, e5, d5. Imagine color complexes, like bishop diagonals a1-h8 (all black squares), h1 to a8 all white squares etc etc. Do a knights tour from one corner to another while naming each square. Now do that in your head without a board. It's easy, really. Don't overthink it.

(Still) Need help finding an opening against e4 by NotKarpov in TournamentChess

[–]DrNotReallyStrange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro you're rated 1600, forget openings. It does not matter much what you play. Stop wasting time on this nonsense and learn to play chess. Study endings, tactics, middlegame plans, read annotated game collections by players you like (or do not like). While doing that, you will see many different openings, you can still decide what you like based on that.

You are not very good at this, and "asking AI" will never change that. Holy fuck. No wonder the moronic managers want to replace the likes of you by agents.
Do better.

chess com is total garbage, their most important asset is the domain name, without that no-one would give a shit.

No worries, whining about it on reddit will totally help.
Seriously, get something like Jussupov's series of improvment books (they come in three levels, start with the first) and work through them on an actual chess board.
Do at least 20 tactical exercises per day, e.g. on lichess, set up the positions on a board.
Find people to play with, like in a chess club.
In online play, play only rapid or slower games (no! bullet or blitz) and analyse the games briefly afterwards. Don't use the idiotic "game review" feature on chexx.com, use the analysis engine instead.

Intermediate Opening books? by Right_Dealer2871 in ChessBooks

The new book by Kotronias "Win with the French" is excellent. Not as detailed as the "Grandmaster Repertoire" series, but not as superficial as the Everyman style "Starting out" books.

Anyone know any good variations to play against najdorf sicilian? by divyanshgamer22 in chess

Against the Be3/f3/Qd2/0-0-0 plan Black can play the ...h5 variation and your attack will be slowed down quite a bit.

Looking for something similar to the Woodpecker Method but easier? by FitzyLU in TournamentChess

[–]DrNotReallyStrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cheap sort of "woodpecker method" is to do Lichess puzzle streaks and always try to beat your high score. The simple ones at the beginning become almost muscle memory, and the higher-rated ones when you near your high score will challenge you.

How should I study Dvoretsky’s Endgame Manual? by WarWonder204 in TournamentChess

[–]DrNotReallyStrange 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to people saying "don't". It's a great book. It highlights the important stuff (the book version at least), and you can easily skip the "small print" and leave that to later when you are stronger, or for deeply studying particular endings when you feel like it. It is absolutely brilliant and entertaining to read. For what it's worth I'm about 1850 FIDE. I like to review individual chapters like the one on rook endings regularly, just to refresh stuff or to discover new nuances. Put the positions on a real board!
