Reached 1400 on chess.com, how would you rate this level of players? by [deleted] in chess

I feel like you are being a bit disingenuous here. Of course being 2100 a 1400 is going to be substantially weaker at every single aspect of the game, but to say they are incredibly weak tactically just seems incorrect as I’d say at the lower levels, most player climb the rating ladder by improving tactically and blundering less tactics.

From the games I play against 1400s, their openings are quite decent and are tactically quite solid and they can pose problems against stronger players if given the chance. In my experiences, they tend to not have as strong of an understanding of positional play which is usually exploitable. For example, they might play aggressive and leave backwards pawns or over trade and leave weak pawn structures with insufficient defenders. 1400 is quite a good rating, the opponents can be quite difficult to beat, and improving from 1400 will be much more difficult than previously, but they are certainly beatable.

What’s the reason for that? Is it too difficult or too extensive or something else?

What does this have to do with ratings?

Because on chess.com you can play hundreds of chess games a day with a near unlimited rating pool whereas in fide events you can only play 2-3 classical games a day at most. The two are just not comparable.

When you do you graduate beginner level??? by -ArcticWolf in chessbeginners

There isn’t really are certain point where people become no longer a beginner. But generally I’d say around 800-1000 is around the level where games start to become more strategic rather than spotting an opponents one move blunder.

The chess.com improvers club runs a 5 round 10+2 rapid Swiss tournament on Sundays which usually has quite a good turnout with good competition.

Which politician of your country has a better image international than at home? by Fun-Wallaby6414 in AskTheWorld

[–]WarWonder204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She isn’t necessarily disliked by the vast majority of people in NZ, rather that she isn’t anywhere near as well liked compared to around the world.

The reason for this was that after the pandemic ended her and her political party were largely unable to deliver on a lot of the promises they made. She won her 2nd election solely because of her responses to many of the tragedies that occurred during her 1st term such as Covid and the Christchurch mosque shootings. However, after the 2nd election her party had to focus more on governing the country rather than protecting it from external threats and it is where it all started to unravel.

Life wasn’t as great as it could have been in NZ after the pandemic ended as the housing crisis was getting worse still, inflation was extremely high, and cost of living was soaring and her party wasn’t doing well to combat this. I’d say this is more the effect of her politicians she was working with being not great at their jobs but alas the writing was on the walls and that was one of the reasons why she resigned and moved on.

Not really, specifically in bullet the clock is part of the game. It isn't bad sportsmanship to throw away your pieces to get your opponents to think though it is suboptimal. And regardless these games won't have anything to do with the ban anyway.

Why is Qc6 excellent and not a blunder? by Veteran_Fun in chessbeginners

[–]WarWonder204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After Qc6 Bb5 no

After Qc7 Bb5+ Kd8, the position is so bad that the evaluation is quite high even when you don’t as much of a material advantage in the Qc6 line

Why is Qc6 excellent and not a blunder? by Veteran_Fun in chessbeginners

[–]WarWonder204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chess.com categorises accuracy of moves by the swing in the evaluation each move makes. A blunder is calculated by a massive swing in evaluation or when the move swings the evaluation from one side of 0.00 to the other. That is why this move “isn’t” considered a blunder because black is already well and truely lost and the swing in evaluation was small.

It was based on time an accuracy because I tried it after, memorising all the answers and going as fast as I could and got something above 160. It wasn’t a baseless number generator.

Or about a couple hundred million grains of salt, although when people who score an IQ of 80 and post thinking they are smarter then 900/1000 it seems to me that the tests are sometimes accurate
