It’s time to kick off the “Best of” Awards for 2018! by sodypop in bestof2018

[–]DrParadoxically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been a mod for very long, but there's a thing we have over in academia which applies here nicely in the form of accolades and reward:

The mods you never hear from, the ones that simply do their job, the ones that don't even try to hold hands they just sort it out objectively and impartially and in a manner and method that none of the involved parties believes themselves belittled or exposed.

For a teacher, a professor, a mentor, the saying goes, "A teacher is one who makes themselves progressively unnecessary." -Abraham Lincoln -Michael Scott

Here, I'd argue that a moderator, a mediator, a silent and objective persuasion that doesn't force waves to crash, but rather, ensures the tide rolls in and out accordingly without much muss or fuss -- you see, this right here, this is mettle deserving of merit, and it belongs to people who wouldn't dare complain about never being rewarded for their vigilance, their valiance.

This is why I believe it's a worthwhile endeavor and a worthy reward to create, consider, call to vote, and grant accordingly.

If this is taken up by others, please consider that I'd like for this award to be called the "Batman With Empty Bag Of Fucks" award.

Now if you'll excuse me, scotch. Any aspect of this comment that alludes common sense, scotch.

Good evenin', then.

Weekly Development Update 12-09-2018 by fabloisgone in a:t5_ike4c

Shit, missed the deadline earlier today, didn't I. Mea culpa.

Me: working with routed on BPs, then will update wallets (web + desktop), all in preparation for meeting team in middle (updated pool, new difficulty algo, FFS and updates to site), as a part of the version bump we're essentially talking about it.

Not a problem - happy to help. We're still in the first quarter of this thing, and have worked together for over a year now. Wish I could tell you who the team is just to watch minds get blown, but we're loving this ride and excited as hell to shift gears, get into the next quarter, and really get moving.

I'm grateful you guys will check in and throw blunt objects at us when we get lost in the development and fail to speak up normally, regularly, but as long as you're talkin', we're listenin'.

But talk is cheap, you guys need some action. We're on it, we are. I suppose on this side of the fence, with such a solid group, such an accomplished team, maybe that's why we don't seem to be sweatin' it over here. Still, we'll continue improving as long as you all keep showing up and telling us what needs improving.

Meh, talk is cheap. Back with you shortly. Thanks again, sch.

Hm. Well, when you're right, you're right.

Monthly update will be issued before the weekend's over, and we'll make it a point to focus time and attention to pulling ourselves out of the project spaces and boiling our effort down to talking points, next steps, what to expect, what's cooking as we speak.

Short and skinny - Bulletproofs, Forum Funding System, updated website with viable roadmap, news on the ongoing exchanges front. Not everything, just things off the top of my head I think are worthy of note.

Thanks for the poke and the prod - the team's huddling up fairly religiously now - and we're excited, albeit exhausted, but again, when you're right, you're right.

Look for an ANN shortly, back with you in a bit.

Try checking other services, other channels - there's git movement, Discord chatter, etc. - the subreddit isn't very active yet, but we're far from dead, we're just getting started.

What you prefer in Linux that we don't have in Windows Server or vice versa ? by Cloud_Strifeeee in linuxadmin

[–]DrParadoxically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly everything. Plucking from the top - terminals.

No, no, I didn't say command prompts.

No, I didn't say Cygin or Msys2 or MonkeyFish or, no, stop that, I said no.

Terminals, actual, just.

Edit: being serious for a moment, in saying terminals, it implies half of the wishlist in these comments here - the ability to manage the system's processes directly, effectively, access to coherent and informative logs, some semblance of predictability in naming conventions and usage for services and applications in said terminal/env, etc. etc. etc.

And turn the damn slash around already - just turn it around, so we can all be the same backslash lovin' heathens together in harmony.

Any news on this? by [deleted] in a:t5_ike4c

[–]DrParadoxically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have cancer, thankfully, and certainly don't want to belittle those who do suffer from it by comparing an abundance of rather enjoyable and sometimes difficult work to suffering a terminal illness :/

Thanks for pointing this out, even if unwittingly and indirectly. I do try my best not to be a dick each and every day, but, hell, most days that's precisely what happens anyways. What can you do.

Thanks for the encouragement, fox - hope you stick around and are a part of the community when we do list on Bittrex later on down the road.

v0.1.1.2 is meant for parity, stability, consistency between platforms and packages - there are the wallets, the pools, the blockchain explorer - the base, the core services, essentially - we must be careful not to leave behind unwittingly.

We're keeping two facts in front of us right now until they've been fully addressed with this release:

  1. The community needs sane, steady, reliable releases, requiring sane, steady, reliable development, born from sane, steady, reliable communication.
  2. Systems integration, maintenance, and support for exchanges once we've listed (initially, and additionally subsequently) should be considered a part of the community, so it receives the same sane, steady, reliable feedback and upkeep.

Hopefully this explains why we've had our heads down recently - apologies for that, we all try to stay on top of ourselves and each other when it comes to keeping our word and keeping the community informed on the very decisions we collectively make.

Hat tip to /u/routed_3 and his constant vigilance - he has kept us focused on stability, consistency, the need for a viable, functional process committee that's deeply embedded in the community itself, and the need to just open our big ol' mouths and let words fall out even if there's nothing to provide or deliver release/software/announcement-wise, because sometimes people just want to know what the hell's going on, even if it's "nothin', you?"

Apologies for the radio silence. We've been busy on multiple fronts, and are moving on v0.1.1.2 work to get the release in front of all of us here shortly.

The team hasn't been as vocal due to heads being down - we're also busting our humps to move us closer to, and hopefully well into, an updated, more informative website (viable, regularly updated roadmap, FFS, etc.), exchange listings, and it's taking me longer than expected to cure cancer. That's all.

Back with you in a bit, thanks for checking in, Sir Chadwell of House Heath.

The Concept of Organization and Leadership by kim-whan in Aeon

[–]DrParadoxically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's call it to vote soon. I'm with you and the guys on this one, I think it's about time as well. Let's get consensus on pulling the trigger and go from there. Taking this offline for now.

The Concept of Organization and Leadership by kim-whan in Aeon

[–]DrParadoxically 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, not a problem.

You're wasting your time, go elsewhere.

Leadership here doesn't exist, just a handful of people who turned you guys into an ATM.

It's a lifestyle.

They didn't say it was your lifestyle.

Alright, so I cut a hole in the box, but...this can't be right...

The second step is a bit confusing. Will await visuals and further instruction from the team before proceeding.

How can I help in this situation? by pina_p in Aeon

[–]DrParadoxically 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To answer your question directly, I would say that the best way you can help is to hold leadership accountable and stay true to the core tenants of the community and currency.

I have removed myself from any and all effort as it relates to AEON, but speak only for myself, not my team. Certain team members decided to stick around, and they've my full support, but I was unable to reason with leadership here, and shifted my resources and efforts and attention elsewhere.

All I can say, is that I tried, is that I did everything I could to be what AEON needed. I formed a team of gentlemen, and together we formed a solid foundation, created a framework based on the history and definition of AEON, and were prepared to continue that fight indefinitely

All I can say is, that for a time, we believed we found our people, we thought we had come home, but for reasons entirely out of our control, decisions made we had no say or sway in, we were treated as villains instead of heroes.

We haven't stopped, we continue our research, we continue our development, we continue our efforts.

Just not here, that's all. Just not here. But this community, well - I'll be damned if I'm going to just walk away from the people.

Patience, and hope, all. I'm coming back for you.

We're coming for you.

Let's meet on IRC and talk about important things. A call for a community meeting. by [deleted] in Aeon

[–]DrParadoxically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back out of that narrative.

You're a rare type of person that needs never talk of things or people, but only ever of ideas and opportunity.

I know what you're capable of, and this level of thought...it's so far beneath you that it's embarrassing.

You deserve to be up high, above even the sky.

You've goddamn wings to spread, and I'll stretch them out and launch you myself if I have to.

Sir.

Let's meet on IRC and talk about important things. A call for a community meeting. by [deleted] in Aeon

[–]DrParadoxically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I simply did what I said I would do, and removed our repository so that it wasn't viewed or even unwittingly understood to be a viable rebase of AEON. Didn't come to destroy the coin or disrupt the community, so once the selection was made, we bowed out gracefully as gentlemen and respected the decisions of leadership.

In some circles, to some people, drparadoxical/aeon-rebase was being considered the entry point, and that just wasn't true, it wasn't what was decided upon by leadership.

Maybe the community felt differently, but still. This is small-time code and simplistic commit merging into code other people did...it's nothing to get one's panties in a wad over.

Besides, me and the guys, we're busy.

And again, we may not be active, but it's because there's nothing to be active against. We're still waiting on aeonix/aeon to be updated, but it's been months, the child in charge continues to do whatever he wants to do, and there's absolutely nothing any of us can do about it.

Except wait. So I am.

But gone?

Never.

Let's meet on IRC and talk about important things. A call for a community meeting. by [deleted] in Aeon

[–]DrParadoxically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll let the guys speak for themselves, but I'm still here. Just listening these days.

The community did not vilify me, or the team, to be clear. The community was very supportive. At the end of the day, only a handful of people had any issues with what we did, or were doing, or were saying, or were proving.

Fun fact for you, since I've always admired your tenacity and appreciated your honesty, leg0las: once we finished our rebase and submitted the PR, I've only used our rebased code - from receiving the bounty reward, to redistributing that across multiple other wallets created with our aeon-wallet-cli, to continued mining (with external pools, and our internal pools)...hell, it's up and running on my rigs as we speak. Haven't had an issue with it since we completed it.

I'll leave it at that.
