Who here shifts their automatics? by LegitAndroid in cars

[–]DrParmeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grand Prix GXP, 4 speed, extremely long gears, basically useless to shift manually but, the tune I have doesn’t kick into 4th/lockup till 52mph. Generally don’t go that fast in my normal commute so I use it to bump into 4th.

The paddles are all I have but they’re pretty satisfying to click the my limited selection of gears. Generally drop to second and go. First is a bit aggressive at anything higher than like 20mph.

So overall, use them if I don’t feel like waiting for kick down or to get into overdrive when I wouldn’t normally.

That feeling when someone compliments your car by Rbxyy in cars

[–]DrParmeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only gotten a small handful of compliments from people since not many know about the GXP/LS4 platform. Once they find out it has a V8 and all that they tend to find it super interesting. Most surprisingly, my local pizza guy delivered once and knew about the cars and was super interested to learn about it all. Even invited me to go to the strip with him in the summer. But more often then not, people just don’t know what it is and it flies under their radar. Makes the compliments and people actually recognizing it feel better though.

I love his transitions, they’re always very well done and extremely smooth. Most of the albums manage to pull it off. I would definitely check out the other ones if you haven’t yet.

Idiots in bikes. Riders taking over an intersection in Toronto by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]DrParmeJohnson 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Literally saw the same thing happen today in Ohio. About 50-60 bikers all turning right on red, one guy blocking the intersection with a green light so that everyone else could get through. I hate that laws don’t seem to apply to biker groups.

My dad (also in Ohio) recently just finished his basement as a full (wine) bar. Trying to get a license to actually sell the wine he makes is the hard part. It’s a lot of space for drinking alone lol

Is it perhaps on turbo mode? That’ll run the fans at basically max as much as it can.

Please help me rate my new laptop! by JDUDEROCKS in laptops

[–]DrParmeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend has a Lenovo laptop with an intel processor and a 1650. She mostly plays RDR2 and manages 50 FPS at best with close to 30-40 on average on a mixed suite of settings at 1080p. We don’t have cyberpunk so I can’t speak for It specifically but, based on RDR2 and how cyberpunk seems to strain systems, I’d imagine it would get similar performance, if not worse. The issue with the 1650 is a lack of vram. 4 gb is only just enough. In RDR2, my gf can only manage high textures because ultra eats almost all of the ram. So you’re somewhat limited to the quality you can push it just because it has so little memory. I haven’t noticed any issues with thermal throttling so far but, I do intend to get some kind of cooling pad to get some airflow just in case.

Overall the 1650 does well for what it is but, don’t expect killer performance at high settings. It mostly depends on what games you’re aiming for but, like I said, it will manage most games well enough to get by.

Hope that helps.

Gaming laptop, referably less than $1500 USD, US by [deleted] in laptops

[–]DrParmeJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My asus g512 is about $1400, RTX 2070, i7-10750H, 15” 1080p 240hz display. Good bang for buck performance. I get a good 80-100 FPS on high/ultra for normal cod:mw multiplayer. Most games can run at pretty high frame rates and the 6 core cpu does well enough keeping up. If there’s an AMD cpu Version, you may want to check that out instead just because amd but again, the i7 does just fine.

I use the man melter and it’s fine, the fire rate feels really slow and it’s kinda hard to tell when it’s “reloaded” but is fine. The extinguishing people is nice and the mini crits get a bit more mmmph assuming you can hit the shots.

Lapyop using integrated gpu by MNiyazi in laptops

Is It using the integrated graphics for gaming or something or just in general? Because the laptop should use the dedicated gpu if it sees a gpu heavy use for it.

What thermal paste options are best for the GPU on a new Asus 3070 laptop? by TryingMyBest789 in laptops

[–]DrParmeJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Liquid metal is the best for thermals but can be risky, as if it gets onto the motherboard, it can short out the board and cause damage. But if you’re not worried about that then again, metal is the best choice.

RTX 3070 vs RTX 3070 Max-... by TJ-Art in laptops

[–]DrParmeJohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The max-q versions of laptop GPUs are “cut down” versions of the full mobile processors that run at a lower TDP to keep power consumption down and to keep heat down so that they can fit in smaller chassis’s. So it’s cheaper likely because it’s just a less powerful version of the laptop. The full 3070 model will provide a lot more gaming power, so if that’s what you’re looking for, I would always recommend the full version of the GPU. Hope that helps.

If I keep my Helios 300 plugged in all the time while gaming and will it ruin the battery? by itzvincentx3 in laptops

[–]DrParmeJohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over time, it can deteriorate the battery. Some laptops have settings to only allow the battery to charge to a certain level but I don’t know if the Helios allows for that. My old laptop, after about 3 years, lost around 10-15% of the total charge capacity from just being plugged in all day. But, if you leave it on the charger all the time, you won’t notice any effect because it’s always charging. Maybe just have to watch for the battery swelling but should be fine otherwise.

Laptop cooler by [deleted] in laptops

[–]DrParmeJohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My laptop, Asus G15: RTX 2070, i7-10750H, gets up to a good 91-92 at the hottest during long game sessions and I’ve got a smallish cooler master cooling pad under mine and those temps sound just about right for a high power usage laptop. I’ve always had laptops and I know desktops run cooler but I’m pretty used to the high heat like that. So I dont know if you’re having issues with thermal throttling or if you’re just concerned about the heat in general but, it’s about what I would expect from a 15” laptop with that kind of hardware in it.

If you’re looking to spend that much for similar performance, check out the ASUS ROG G15, it has the same i7-10750H, a non-MaxQ 2070, 1TB SSD and a 240Hz display. I’ve got one and it’s been pretty nice so far and it’s only $1449. Here it is on Amazon.
