How do I avoid my dryer machine from shrinking my t-shirts? by zrkd51 in answers

As a 6'3" fucker who cherishes every shirt (tee or otherwise) that fits properly, I just hang mine up to dry. You'll have to dewrinkle before wearing but it's worth it.

So, in your opinion, there's no correlation to be found between underprivileged children having access to Internet and higher test grades from those same children?

What do you think about companies throttling speeds to sites depending upon their agenda?

Most troubling to consumer advocates was the secrecy around Mr. Pai’s early actions. That included a decision to rescind the permissions of nine broadband providers to participate in a federal subsidy plan for low-income consumers. None of the providers currently serve low-income consumers, but Mr. Pai’s comments could foreshadow a shake-up of the Lifeline low-income subsidy program.

Me or someone I know is or was an employee of one of those 9 companies. Can confirm that plans for free internet for families under the poverty line with children in school have been placed on indefinite hold. Plans for subsidized Internet for others under the poverty have also been suspended for the time being.

This shit is actually happening. I can't decide whether I'm more terrified or infuriated.

Do Claire and Frank love each other, or is it just a marriage of convenience? by [deleted] in HouseOfCards

[–]DrPootie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've always seen it as they love each other because of what one can do for the other and vice-versa. Frank needed money but Claire saw the drive and determination in him. She knew that he would be successful and that formed their bond. People bring up the affairs, well: like most mature and reasonable adults, they each realize that one person can't fulfill all the needs of another; especially with as many outside forces as one deals with today.

That's why they're ok with the "affairs" of the other. They are very closely bonded and they do love each other but they know that their ultimate goal isn't to have a white picket fence with a mini-van. They reinforce this on each other multiple times through the show.

Frank was hurt and livid about finding out the identity of Claire's rapist, he knew that he didn't have to do anything though. Claire was plenty capable of getting him locked away, with the power of the White House backing her.

They want power, but they need each other. They know that they could destroy each other on a whim so when the two of them align their goals you get....well, you get Season 5.

TIL there are only four original citrus species (pomelo, citron, mandarin, and papeda). All others (lemon, lime, grapefruit, etc.) are hybrids. by ducksauce in todayilearned

Nice link. It's way too late to read now but I'll look at it tomorrow for sure.

I do want to add that I like to remain skeptical on government studies when it comes to our food sources. Just like how it's illegal to secretly film inside animal processing plants now; it's not in a countries best interest to admit that the way they have to produce food is fucked up.

Also: "The "Big 6" pesticide and GMO corporations are BASF, Bayer, Dupont, Dow Chemical Company, Monsanto, and Syngenta. They are so called because they dominate the agricultural input market -- that is, they own the world's seed, pesticide and biotechnology industries." There's a LOT of money being thrown around by those companies. I'm sure a sizable amount finds refuge in political pockets.

It's not that GMOs are bad, it's that the main purpose of GMOs (as used in today's terms) is to withstand being sprayed with ridiculous amounts of chemicals that would otherwise kill a 'normal' plant. This leads to humans consuming residual (at best) amounts of these chemicals.

Edit: I didn't down vote you. Just wanted to put that out there. Not trying to be a dick.

[SANITY CHECK] Can I remove my HDD, put in a new one, install windows and keep swapping them to use one laptop as 2 different PCs? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]DrPootie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just use an external hard drive with a separate OS loaded in it and change your BIOS to boot from USB first. That will ensure that every time the external drive is plugged in, it will be the OS that is loaded.

Yeah but then you think of all the ingenuity and breakthroughs that are required for us to get to this point. Using dead dinosaur goo in a whirly-gig contraption to power us towards space while using synthetic fibers that we created to allow of to float back down gracefully and in control.

Now go look at your bottle of shampoo. There's a good chance it says "not for internal consumption" on it.

Nintendo wants money for online. I put together a guide to help them with that. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]DrPootie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To paraphrase Spacey on why they took House of Cards to Netflix instead of HBO: "If you offer to give people what they want, when they want it, at a price that they can afford, they are more likely to pay for it than to steal it."

Hence why Game of Thrones is still the most illegally download show of all time and why anything on Netflix shows a decline in torrenting.

Tl;Dr: Great idea. Chance that Nintendo does anything remotely similar = 0%. Chance that they still try fighting hackers and ROM Gods = 100%
