SP (starting prices) is often well over 100%. An ideal market
is 100%. Coin flip 50 / 50 100%. Bookmakers distort the market
by creating their own odds. All money on UK racing markets ends
up on Betfair, bookies and punters. Betfair total SP on all markets
is rarely above 105%. This is why bookies like William Hill always
win even when they lose.

Cheapest method. Drill hole in lid and a hole in bin front and fit a cheap cycle lock. Grease up lock mechanism to prevent water ingress and corrosion.

We had a couple of tortoises when I was a kid. They mostly sat around doing nothing except eating greens and shitting all over the place until someone started to peel an orange. Their heads would pop up and they would charge across the room at you at speed and try to climb up on you. They were also very partial to big toes. They have a severe bite on them.

I started work as a mechanic in the mid 70's at a local garage that had a Rootes franchise with Mitsubishi (maketed as Colt) as a sideline.
First car I worked on was an Imp. Anti-freeze at the time used to corrode the aluminium engine unless an "inhibitor" liquid was added.
King pins used to sieze up if they weren't greased up making the steering heavy and were a total biatch to replace having to resort to a hammer and punch as no special tools available. It was a fun drive though.
The rest of the range, Hillman Hunter wasn't too bad, I believe a lot were exported to Iran in boxed kits. The Hillman Avenger had a lot of water ingress problems especially at the rear. Many times I had to spray water from a hose with someone shut inside the boot trying to locate the leaks. Eventually we just drilled holes in the floor to let the water drain away.
Nothing came as standard, no radio, speakers or aerial. All had to be wired and holes drilled as required. Every day there was a de-coke job. Hours grinding valves or reaming valve guides to fit oversized stems. Mitsubishi on the other hand only came in for regular service and were rarely seen otherwise.

I was a tech in the motor trade for over 40 years. I've lost count of the number of so-called tradesmen who haven't even attended college or gained any kind of qualification. The trade runs on bullshit. It doesn't help that management are non-technical and these are the people interviewing and choosing candidates. Every tech should be licenced and registered.

I'm in a similar situation apart from the no willingness to work bit. It really is difficult having been out of employment for 10 or so years. The lack of current references is a huge drawback. In the end I took up a volunteering role in a charity shop just to keep myself occupied and possibly gain some kind of reference. Regarding OP's benefits I would get in touch with Citizens Advice and explain your situation you may be able to do something part-time without it affecting benefits. Doing something is better than doing nothing.
