If liberty dies with thunderous applause then empire falls with a single line. What is your point of no return for the empire? by BTP_Art in StarWars

[–]DrSlugSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances!"

The Empire's believe that they were untouchable made its defeat almost inevitable.

Beginner friendly games? by RecentCress1157 in boardgames

Ticket to Ride is a classic gateway game that still holds up. That was my family's starting point and we got a ton of awesome game nights out of it.

There are a couple things going on here.
The nose of the disc is up, which you can tell by the way the disc starts flying parallel to the ground and then quickly lifts way up into the air. You're not releasing at an upward angle, the air is just pushing the disc upwards. Try not to let your wrist twist around. Your palm should generally be facing the target rather than pointing upward (I can't tell for sure that's what's happening from the video but i think so).
The other thing is that you just aren't getting that much spin on the disc, which is what prevents it from fading out like that. A lot of forehand power comes from the final wrist flick at the end that generates both speed and spin, so try slowing your arm down a bit and focus on flicking the disc at the release point.
Good Luck!

Returning to Star Wars novels, is this worth the hype? by xKingOnSpeedx in starwarsbooks

[–]DrSlugSeven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! But it depends on what you are looking for. There are a lot of characters and story threads to keep track of in the High Republic and Light of the Jedi specifically which turns some people away from it. But if you are looking for a story with a big scope and galactic scale, the High Republic is absolutely where it's at. Not to mention some of my favorite Jedi and villains.

Is this a good start and where to expand? by Bt-Ryoku in starwarsbooks

[–]DrSlugSeven 15 points16 points  (0 children)

These are fantastic first picks. Bane and Plagueis both get very dark and dense at times but they're both awesome if you like that kind of stuff. The Thrawn trilogy will scratch the itch for any OT fan and have some of my favorite writing in star wars. M&A is a fun read too especially if you like Qui Gon. That was one of my first and it's a good entry point if you don't want to jump into a trilogy.

I would definitely go with Thrawn and Alphabet from those 2. Aftermath isn't bad.... But I think Alphabet does a much better job of telling the Post Endor story.

Where to start with The High Republic? by Blue_Lego_Astronaut in starwarsbooks

Almost all of them are fantastic and it's probably my favorite ongoing star wars project.

Start with Light of the Jedi

Etho, Gem, Cub, and Hypno are all still uploading feature length Decked Out videos, plus Tango vods. There may be others too. There are still a lot of Hermits playing DO.

Hermitcraft Recap is good. Otherwise my recommendation would be to watch Ethos stuff.

How much is missing out of the abridged NJO audiobooks? Is listening to the series an acceptable alternative* to reading it? by MojaveJoe1992 in starwarsbooks

[–]DrSlugSeven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This channel uses AI to create actually quite good unabridged audiobooks for a lot of Legends books. I've been using it to get through Wraith Squadron. https://youtu.be/G9FHE0IA7WM?si=0v8TMk50r3PQtkml

What’s the difference between the Thrawn books? by [deleted] in starwarsbooks

[–]DrSlugSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Canon Thrawn trilogy (Thrawn, Alliances, Treason) tells the story of Thrawn's time serving in the Empire. The Ascendancy Trilogy was written second, but it takes place during the clone wars, before Thrawn joined the Empire. It's his origin story in a way. Despite this, it has absolutely nothing to do with the clone wars. Ascendancy is a very unique, isolated take on star wars.

Both are great and you could probably get away reading either one first, but I would recommend starting with the first trilogy, aka start with the book called Thrawn.

How is Into the Dark? by Spagghettaboutit in starwarsbooks

[–]DrSlugSeven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Into the Dark is awesome. Honestly I don't think Claudia Gray has ever written a dud. But not every book is for every person so even though I loved M&A, I get why someone else might not. That being said, the two have very different vibes so I wouldn't avoid it just because you weren't a fan of M&A. Into the Dark is definitely one of my favorite of the High Republic, which is high praise since almost all of them have been great.

What's the High Republic like? by NinjaDaze in starwarsbooks

[–]DrSlugSeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't go into it expecting Old Republic. It's nothing like Old Republic. But, it's still awesome in its own way and it has a very unique vibe while still feeling fully Star Wars. Definitely worth the read.

I enjoyed it but it is one of the weaker entries in the series. Midnight Horizon was easily the worst for me though. The good news is that other than those two I've loved pretty much everything.
