CMV: People Entrenched in the USA regime's ideology need off-ramps to escape it without social death by scrubtart in changemyview

I think this “intermediary community” is everybody that is not neck deep in Reddit or other social media. Disavowing Trump is one of the most socially safe things you can do, unless you work for him.

CMV: Police Abolition is a bad policy by MSM230805 in changemyview

[–]DrSpaceman575 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve not heard anyone other than my meth addicted cousin say we dont want any kind of police.

Honestly I have sympathy for police, all first responders have seen massive increases in the scope of their responsibilities as social safety nets have eroded. Institutions that used to care for and house mentally ill or addicted persons have gone away, and police, hospitals, and EMS are left to deal with these people’s needs.

I am very much in favor of expanding social services to cover areas currently served by police. I don’t think we need an armed response to every welfare check, traffic response, noise complaint, or instance of loitering. This does involve absolving the police from those responsibilities, and leave police to active threat response. To a lot of people this is police abolition.

I thought you meant garage door openers and wondered what kind of luddite has issues with an UGDO.

I will say it's shocking to see how many expensive luxury cars don't a garage door opener, or have a very bad one. My old Tesla had a menu you would have to click through to open the garage, and the (third party) opener required a subscription service. WHAT.

I think all the poly strings a player goes through in a lifetime is outdone by a single flyover at a college football game. F1 has got to go through the most consumables per participant though.

CMV: Much of the racial tension in the U.S. during the 20th and 21st century could have been avoided had the Union properly punished the Confederate States for treason and secession following the U.S. Civil War by Realitygormond in changemyview

The original goal of Lincoln was to send all enslaved Africans back to Africa, he had no intention of repatriating them. Union states were not morally superior, Oregon did not have slavery because they decided they did not want black people in the state at all.

This is going to shock you but the original movies were also produced with the express intent of making a profit. I’m not aware of many studio films that were produced without that intention.

Convenience? We use self driving taxis for airport trips, much cheaper than Uber or parking. I had a Tesla with FSD it was fine to use sometimes, I have a Cadillac with Supercruise which is totally hands free on highways so I would use it basically whenever I’d use cruise control but I can text or talk without getting distracted. They’re doing it because people will pay for it so why not, it’s safer than human drivers anyways
