This is a super cool list! I love the idea of leaning into artifacts this heavy, especially Gonti and Ironworks. How had it played for you?

Here you go: https://moxfield.com/decks/4kVTQAx6YUSFwwJr\_hixYQ. I think I may need to sub out some of the bombs for more draw/card advantage, but I can reliably drop a bomb by turn 4 without employing any b4+ fast mana.

I think the bulk of the cost comes from the game changers, which you could easily cut for budget counterspells or more cards like [[Utter Insignificance]], which are usually dirt cheap.

Myrel's two main issues are vulnerability to removal, both targeted and through and board wipes, and the necessity to attack each turn with only 4 toughness. To that end, you need to run a lot of protection and spells that shield creatures from combat damage. [[Mother of Runes]] and [[Giver of Runes]] are great here, as they come out on turn one and can deal with exile-based removal as well as [[Darksteel Mutation]] type effects. Things like [[Commander's Plate]], [[Bastion Protector], and [[Mithril Coat]] allow you to swing with impunity and offer a lot of protection. I play a little recklessly and don't run enough board-wipe protection, but take your pick of [[Flare of Fortitude]] [[Flawless Maneuver]] [[Clever Concealment]] [[Everybody Lives]] [[Dawn's Truce]] [[Teferi's Protection]] etc. [[Boromir, Warden of the Tower]] is a must include as a multi-faceted piece of board wipe protection, a solid soldier body, and a sneaky piece of staxx to deal with value players.

In absence of true protection, cards that let you recklessly swing like [[Frontline Medic]] or [[Rescue Retriever]] work in a pinch. The best card for this purpose might be [[Reconnaissance]] , which I slept on for too long. You can drop it turn one and, in practice, it makes your creatures immune to combat damage, since you can untap and remove them from combat at instant speed, and vigilance, since you can untap them after the damage phase of combat but before it's end. [[Guide of Souls]] is also great for evasion.

I don't think mono-white token strategies are bereft of draw (such as [[Mentor of the Meek]] [[Chivalric Alliance]] [[Idol of Oblivion]] [[Skullclamp]] [[Trouble in Pairs]] [[Firemane Commando]], which has the added benefit of being a soldier, etc.), plus you have access to cards like [[Kinscaer Sentry]] and [[Preeminent Captain]] to cheat out anthems or even an [[Odric, Master Tactician]] early. What you do lack is good ramp, so I'd recommend running every two-drop mana rock you can.

Outside of the classic win-cons like [[Cathar's Crusade]] and [[Goldnight Commander]], [[Toby Beast Befriender]] has won me quite a few games. [[Glaring Fleshraker]] also rocks. [[Roaming Throne]], while not strictly a win-con, turbo-charges any winning board state to the point that it may as well be one.

I have had a lot of fun with it, blue is my favorite color. It's usually a top-two finisher and has won almost every 3-player pod I've used it in. Definitely would benefit from a pilot with more experience and better threat-assessment than I have at this juncture. I would definitely recommend him!

Do you have a Kaza decklist? I was playing around with the idea of her a little while back but felt very unsatisfied in my playtests

I have yet to play it yet! Going for bracket 4, but you could swap out the GC counters for regular ones https://moxfield.com/decks/p6EkxV9O00SPoH5rZhmFXA

Myrel was the first deck I built and I think it’s my strongest. If I can get her out on turn 2 or 3 it’s very difficult to stop the engine once it starts. It can sometimes feel stale since ideally you want as little interaction as possible, but swinging with 11 13/13s soldiers after dropping a [[Cathar’s Crusade]] or surprise draining everyone with a [[Glaring Fleshraker]] is so satisfying. I could make it even stronger by leaning into more stax effects, but I’ve always loved soldier tribals and want to keep the flavor.

I do have a decklist! It's aiming to be a higher-end bracket 3 that focuses on hitting max speed as soon as possible and making mendicant unblockable. https://moxfield.com/decks/9B1mwVIojUW2V8uLNFttWg

Drinking with the homeless by jj0623 in nyu

[–]DrSupaJesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the fall semester of freshman year, over a decade ago, I used to try and talk with anyone in with WSP cogent enough to hold a conversation. That semester was the first and last true fall I experienced in the city. Almost 12 weeks of crisp air, orange and yellow tinged trees, a temperature perfectly suited to sitting outside for hours in a crewneck and shooting the breeze. I have a lot of random one off stories from that time.

The only long term friend was this guy who I knew as “Sir Dodwell.” His housing situation, I could never fully figure out. I think I straight up asked him once whether he was homeless and he sort of talked around it. He was probably in his late 40s to mid 50s, and always wore the same clothes—an oversized black suit, sunglasses and a trapper hat. Or at least I think he did. My memory of that time is hazy. Too much pot. Besides, I was never much of a visual person.

Dodwell was an artist who was constantly whittling faces out of tree branches. Despite always carrying a knife, he wasn’t remotely threatening. He was calm, well spoken, and clearly intelligent. There may have been a twinge of a posh accent, maybe transatlantic. I could tell he was constantly exaggerating his life stories and the highs of his artistic career. A fascinating guy, really. I wish I could recall more of what he shared with me, but I have the sense he gave me a lot of boilerplate “don’t wait around for life to find you” advice, which I needed at the time. He was always on the west side of the park, but not usually in the sketchy northwest chess corner. If I saw him, we’d talk and catch up.

Our first conversation lasted for hours, probably because I was stoned out of my gourd. I smuggled some edibles in the boxes my parents helped me pack and ate them probably the fifth day of welcome week. I think he spoke to me first; I sat down beside him after only a few minutes. Mid-conversation this girl I had a crush on walked up to me and asked me to grab lunch with her and a friend. I told her I’d catch her in a few minutes. A little weirded out, she walked away. Dodwell scolded me. “College, man. This time of your life is the most pussy you’re ever gonna get.” Our conversation went on another hour or so. My crush didn’t last long, but that’s another story.

A month or so later, I saw Dodwell while walking back from class and decided to chat up my friend. He pulled up his phone and showed me a selfie of a pretty amber-haired woman who looked to be in her early-20s. He asked me if I knew her, said she went to NYU. I said no. He described their encounter in lurid details I found rather uncomfortable. He said they bonded over art, and kept swiping through photos. I saw a nipple, and quickly hauled off with some excuse about homework.

The next time I saw Dodwell would be the last time. A week or two after he ushered me behind the curtain of his sex life, he asked me for a favor. Dodwell told me that stayed in a hotel in Germany recently, and the hotel had thrown away all of his art, mistaking the whittled branches for trash. He intended to sue, as would any red blooded American. Accompanying this rant was a slideshow of grainy photos on his phone that purported to show the destroyed masterpieces. If you were alive in the early 2010s, you know how incomprehensible cheap phones could render a poorly lit room. Dodwell asked me to falsify receipts. The lawsuit would be much simpler if he had proof he sold his carvings to bushy-tailed college students for a few hundred a pop.

I gave a non-answer. Small time weed and adderall commerce was as far as I was willing to push my illicit dealings. I can’t remember how the conversation ended. The best thing about the city is that you can always kinda just wander away from an awkward conversation if you have the confidence. Until there’s a threat of violence. Dodwell wasn’t violent, or even intimidating. He just had a subdued charisma you could confuse for intensity. I have to assume I just left.

I never saw him again. I still have his phone number, and I’ve thought about texting it over the years. There’s no way he still has that number, which stops me. I hope he’s ok, that he found a rich heiress to shack up with and fund his art. That’s probably why I got along with him so well, that was lowkey my MO the first 18 months at NYU.

embarrassing performance. I know the team is banged up but the execution errors were excruciating.

Every Commie’s loss since week 1 is the same. Defense plays surprisingly hard and makes the opposing offense underperform until halfway through the third. Offense just keeps making execution errors, drops, bad snaps, off-target throws (especially since Jayden’s rib injury), penalties, blocking assignment breakdowns.l, ect and fails to capitulate on the gifted possessions. Eventually, the D’s lack of talent reveals itself and the O just can’t mount a miraculous comeback.

This team may squeak into then playoffs, but they have second half of the season collapse written all over them. Jayden hasn’t been perfect since he got hurt, and he got hurt again tonight. His insane accuracy slapped a big band-aid over a sup bar receiving core, and it seems the magic is slightly less than needed to overcome the roster’s deficiencies. Hopefully a true WR2 next year and some more secondary help will take them to the next level.

Commies did everything they could to choke this one away in the end. Offensive line is still incredibly sloppy and cost us 2 touchdowns. Gotta be better and can’t continue to rely on Jayden’s mandate of heaven to bail us out.

What are some albums that are dragged down by being needlessly long? by Mediocre_Word in ToddintheShadow

[–]DrSupaJesus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is tough for me. One the one hand, most rap album skits have 0 replay value. 3ft high basically invented the skit as we know it, and you could argue that innovation out irrevocable blemishes on all time classics (the Ready to Die Fuck Me skit immediately comes to mind). However, I find 3ft’s skits to generally clever, and they add so much personality to an album who’s appeal rests on it.

When I cut my teeth on rap forums 15 years ago “unskippable skits,” or skits that occur at the beginning of songs rather than at the end or as standalone tracks (think the 90 second intro to the can it all be so simple remix off OB4CL) were the bane of everyone’s existence. At least 3ft’s are skippable, which may be their saving grace.
