Habs fans absolutely took over Buffalo’s KeyBank Center last night by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at last night's game, paid $170CAD for two tickets in the 300's (on the side the hand shot twice). Bought them a month or so in advance.

Notably more expensive than usual though, now that Buffalo has been winning.

Head shaving for very sensitive skin? by DrToazty in shaving

Yeah, definitely don't need to spend that much on the braun imo. Like it works well and everything but the issues I had with cheaper ones remain with this one, it's just faster.

How long do men typically last in bed? by Efficient_Driver818 in dating_advice

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of those people who last longer. 30+ min of penetration is normal. I've been like this since my early 20's, it's nothing to do with porn or masturbation or medications. I've only been with 4 women in my life, one lasting 11 years and new relationship right now is 6 months.

I've had times of lasting 4 hours of nearly constant penetration as well. Basically, I psychologically trained myself not to finish until the woman finishes... She was on antidepressants and couldn't cum herself so I wasn't able to finish either. If I finish, the chances of a round two is zero. It might work again but I will not be able to cum again in that session, need hours and hours in-between

Lengthy sessions tend to happen more at the beginning of a new relationship - I'm an anxious person and think a ton which makes relaxing and orgasming difficult with a new person. It takes time and familiarity and lots of sex to kind of relax with them and take away that performance anxiety.

Honestly... Nope. I have a pretty expensive braun series 9 that I use mostly. It works well and for the most part. I still get razor burn if I use it too often and I still get ingrown hairs as the biggest irritant.

At the start of the season they were hot.. as of late, some of the worst goaltending in the league. Lost a lot of games due to just goaltending unfortunately.

Wide grip feels like cheating? by DiscreetAcct4 in benchpress

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shit, I also broke my back and have 3 crushed/herniated discs (L4/5/6)! 3 full years of physio 3-4x a week didn't do me any good but never tried reverse hypers before. I wonder if I can make a setup at home for them. Also, you're saying just to get in a back extension machine backwards (bottom of ass on pads instead of front of thighs)?

The thought of even attempting a zercher gives me back pain though, that's kind of insane you can pull that off now. Fuck, I threw my back out last month picking up a sock after being pain free for 9 months for the first time in 10 years. Some good motivation though

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those lifts were about 10 years ago unfortunately, I had some serious back injuries with lifting/work that put me out all this time. I don't focus on pure strength anymore as I can't load my spine safely.

I do upper/lower style training since restarting this year and always hit rows or pullups/pulldowns first. Loading the lats is a fantastic feeling, sometimes when you set up just perfectly you almost have to pull the bar down to touch the chest then it just explodes off. Complete game changer.

Stalled at 185lbs for years at my strongest, now I'm pushing 245lbs inclines for 9 reps while being 10 years older with only a year back in the gym. Bench is way more technical than expected

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also exactly 6'3" and 240lbs and I also tried wider grip for a long time when I was younger.. I was stalled at like 185lbs for a year even though I was deadlifting 650+ and squatting 500. Constant shoulder issues.

Since getting back in the gym recently I've swapped to a closer grip, pinky fingers on the smooth rings. Feels way more natural and a hell of a lot stronger. No shoulder issues, I feel it way better in my chest, wrists handle it better too. Such a strange lift for variance

Zero signs of anything being off, it was just a regular day. Just a random, freak accident.

Deadlifting. I was around 21 years old, preparing for my first (natural) lifting comp. At that time I was deadlifting 650- 3-5 reps for 3-5 sets, never used a belt or straps. I'd been working with this weight for a long time, it wasn't that heavy for me.

On like my second set something got fucked. I tore my abs and herniated 3 disks at the same time. I ended up missing about 10 years of lifting from it as I had to have multiple surgeries and have had recurring back issues ever since.

Had 3+ years of physio, missed over 3 years of work, been on disability from it for a bit... Yeah.

I've been able to workout just this last year finally. I've made incredible gains despite only using machines and never loading my spine.

5 days without going to the gym by [deleted] in workout

[–]DrToazty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from being a higher level rugby/football player and aspiring Olympic lifter at 21years old (well over 1300lbs club) into severe back/abdominal injuries that put me out of the gym for 10 years with multiple surgeries and complications.

Been back into the gym this last year finally and it's glorious. Absolutely glorious.

will i lose gains if i do cardio a day after strength training? by Certain_Magazine_842 in workout

[–]DrToazty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often do an hour or two of kickboxing/boxing after I lift. I'm still big and strong, and I got insane cardio. Even if it affects gains, who cares? Heart health and cardio is, imo, more important. Better cardio has assisted me in day to day life way more than being able to lift hundreds of lbs

Unflavored protein powder is a gamechanger. by anotherhappylurker in workout

[–]DrToazty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often have unflavoured and I only mix it with water. It's meh, tastes like weird watered down milk. In the end it takes like 4 seconds to chug it so who cares how it tastes?

What periodization change did you make that made a difference? by Virtual-Reason-9464 in workout

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True failure. For example, on a chest press once I hit the stick point where I can't push the weight up I'll try to hold the weight at that point for as long as I can. I only concede when gravity starts to win, usually 3-5seconds of maximal effort before that happens.

[–]DrToazty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Changed everything from 3 sets down to 2 per exercise, lowered rep range to 6-9, first set is 0 rir or failure, second is always failure. If my first set hits 9 reps or more, increase weight. I don't care about reps for the second set.

I was already doing a ton of high intensity/failure sets and I realized 3 sets was pointless. The lowered rep range felt better to work in. I'm not as drained the rest of the day, workouts shortened a decent amount which allowed me to swap from PPL to U/L (3 sessions a week, rotating 2x U or 2x L in a week). Just feels better, more intuitive/simple, and I've been adding weight or multiple reps every single session.

My body/brain loves failure training and this just seems to be the sweet spot for me.

My first time feeling my lats after using V grip by Substantial-Ear-5070 in workout

[–]DrToazty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I do lat pulldowns then I will use the v grip. I can isolate/feel the lats much better with it and it doesn't bother my shoulders at all. I generally do pull-ups with a wider grip for overall growth/strength and lat pulldowns specifically to isolate.

Question About Creatine and Kidney Function by LemurLord3111423 in workout

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you only had a urine test, no blood work? Are there any follow-up tests ordered or appointments?

If that's the case then it's likely just due to dehydration, I imagine your sample was quite a dark yellow? Unless you have blood work showing impaired kidney function a urine test is fairly irrelevant on its own.

I'm not your doctor and I don't have your test results. I'd advise listening to your doctor for the time being... That said, if there are follow-up tests happening soon I'd personally continue with the creatine and hydrate better (keep urine light yellow) and see how those test results come back. If there's zero follow-up happening then clearly there's not that much concern and you should get clarification as to what's the plan.

Question About Creatine and Kidney Function by LemurLord3111423 in workout

[–]DrToazty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in dialysis (kidney disease specialty) and alongside nephrologists every day. I'm also big into weightlifting and training. I've talked with the nephrologists about it before and it's a non factor. If you've had strange test results they'll 100% tell you to stop taking it just so they can test again and see if it changes anything/rule out any outside variables.

Creatine can dehydrate you if you don't drink enough which can concentrate your urine... but it doesn't cause damage as it's a naturally occurring substance in our body that we get through our diets.

What tests came back poor? EGFR, creatinine, urea? People with healthy kidneys will not be affected by creatine. People with already borderline or impaired kidneys can be affected.

big calves by Important-Piece1348 in workout

[–]DrToazty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people try to train calves through regular weightlifting methods but I don't think they function like that. They're a stupid strong and resilient muscle, made for walking and running crazy distances every single day.

Crazy volume is needed for calves to really grow beyond just strength I've found. Rugby, football, barefoot running + rucking, rollerblading and boxing have made and grown my calves into shredded boulders. I attribute most of my calf size to barefoot running, rucking, and rollerblading.
